Since filming this series in May/June I am saddened to say that Dave Fowler from West Coast Mountain Guides has sadly lost his life in the mountains - I will leave the videos up at the moment in his memory. Dave gave me the best 4 days I have ever had in the Mountains and memories that will last with me forever. His passion and love for the outdoors really shows. He will be sadly missed by myself and many others. Thoughts are with everyone involved at this time - RIP Dave.. 🏔
Dave guided my wife over the Aonach Eagach, she felt so reassured by his calm and knowledgeable presence; I'm grateful to him for keeping her safe. RIP Dave. Really enjoy watching your videos every evening, keep them coming.
I enjoyed the Skye video's and was upset to learn of Dave, and his clients, deaths. Condolences to family and loved ones. His enthusiasm shines through these video's, and the legacy he leaves, must be the joy and sense of achievement he gave to those under his wing, the realisation of dreams... r.i.p.
I can appreciate how you feel. When I was doing my week's MLC assessment in the Cairngorms, I had the privilege of having John Cunningham as my assessor. He was a great Scottish climber and instructor who was working out of Glenmore Lodge at the time. If you check up on his life you will find that, amongst other things, he had been a Justice of the Peace in Antarctica and had a mountain on South Georgia named in his honour! Ironically, having done some of the hardest climbs in the highest mountains, he lost his life attempting to rescue a student who had fallen into the sea while climbing sea cliffs. Sgurr nan Gillean is my favourite hill for views. It's also the nearest you can get to flying without leaving the ground! Incidentally, that wasn't an abseil, it was a lowering. In an abseil, the rope reaches all the way down and you basically have a controlled slide down it! Irrespective of the method, whateven gets you down safely is good! Keep climbing.
I just want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has been following my Munro Journey so far.. 😁 Excited to see what the final 82 will bring.. 🏔 James
Fantastic James. A superb few vlogs on Skye. Well done on your 200 milestone. I reached a milestone recently on 141. It’s a great journey this munro bagging malarkey. Top notch 👍
Great video. Not sure what my 200th was though I know it was in 2007. However, I’m sure you will do better than me as my last was my 220th several years ago. I find it almost unbelievable watching these videos that I did the Cuillin , indeed repeating more than half of them. Can barely climb the footbridge at my local station now!
Well I seem to be stuck on 217 because of this weather , and probably like you most of my Munros are 3hr + drive away ... Looks like I'll be doing some more Corbetts again 😂
Fantastic video James, thank you. The ‘Bad Step’ on Am Basteir looked exhilarating, as did the west ridge of Sgurr Nan Gillean. What a great week you had on Skye and what an excellent guide Dave was. Certainly one to consider when I eventually get to Skye. You tackled all the difficulties that the ridge had to throw at you with consummate ease. Your 200th Munro being Sgurr Nan Gillean, they don’t come much better than that, very well done. What a memory! I look forward to watching your ascents of the next 82 Munros. Thanks again.
Awesome series- didn't know these were as extreme. Anybody thinking of doing them should watch- I bet lots of folk get caught out. What they ravens like- hilarious! Well done James.
You jammy devil with the weather. 4 cracking days in the Cullins doesn't happen very often. Excellent mini series which captured the Cullins very well indeed, and congratulations on reaching the 200 milestone. Cheers!
Absolutely brilliant effort and amazing videos dude 👍👊🙌 …. You should do this for a living as all your videos are brilliant …. Can’t wait for your next 82 💪
Wonderful James. You cartainly got a good week. Your videos are just fantastic - what a great intro for people although exposure always seems greater with headcams than in real life. I had one of the hairiest moments ever climing the chimney on the west ridge of Gillean. I put my collie in my rucsac and set off up with my wife behind. The rucsac had an upper extension which is foopy when empty. Somehow the dog climbed into this so that she was effectively free to swing around although tied in. As she swung around it was totally unsafe to let go with either hand so I just waited in the hope she would be still. All my wife could see looking up was my shoes and the dog's head looking down at her. We had left home Moray) late morning so I hadn't realised it was getting late. Unbelievably a guide appeared above. Seeing my plight he climbed down and roped me and my wie up. We arrived at the top to a stunning sunset and got down the trickier bit of the "tourist route" before total darkness fell and we stumbled our way down.
James, I've climbed these mountains many times, I've been waiting for years for someone to come long and document them all properly and not just in part, you even completed the W Ridge of Gilean, total respect, what a fabulous set of films you've made, as good as it gets.
Congratulations on 200 Munros. Superb videos which convince me NOT to climb any of these mountains ... I was sufferring from vertigo just watching them! I'm on Skye this weekend and I'll enjoy the safer sport of Munro-spotting! Well done again
Well done James, good effort on the Cuillin. Spectacular footage of the legendary peaks and no mention of midgies! Hope you managed a wee dook in the Faerie Pools. Enjoying your Journey, keep up the great work.
Well done James on reaching number 200 and what a better way to do it than the toughest of them all. You have set the bar high for all other would be Munro baggers to follow both in number and the memories that you have captured in your amazing videos. Looking forward to following you to the end 👏🏻
Great video! Attempted the West ridge solo last week, but got spooked on that narrow arete! Had to downclimb the chimney back to the start. Climbed Am Basteir and The Tooth instead. Great little scramble up to The Tooth.
What an amazing trip to Skye and congrats on your 200...I did SNG with my mate Kenny many years ago with no climbing gear and still can't figure out how we did it..!
Brilliant again mate loved everyone, you need to set up your thank you button as don’t see it on your videos, people can donate 👍😊 best channel on RUclips
Ah James. This Skye series has been epic. Well done for hitting the 200 mark. These eleven Munros look absolutely incredible. Great filming too. Think 'wow' sums it up. Brilliant.
Congratulations James on climbing your 200th munro, fantastic! You didn't pick the easiest one either, but you made it. Big respect for that. Thank you for sharing your beautiful and exciting images with us. On to the next.....
An excellent journey across the Cullin ridge. Congratulations on your 200th munro, what a place to do it! Brilliant footage James, brought back great memories when we did Sgurr nan Gillian 30 years ago and with the same weather as you. Thought Dave was brilliant too, just ambles about over the ridges as if he's out in the park! Cheers, Ozzy.
Congratulations on 200! You looked very relaxed on that final abseil. Fantastic footage again - very inspiring. I might be climbing my first Cuillin next week - Sgurr Dearg and the Inn Pinn, with a climbing friend. Inn at the deep end! Off to practice my abseiling now.
Brilliant video James. You have really captured the thrill of walking/scrambling/climbing on Skye, what a fantastic area it is. Congratulations on achieving your 200th. Fantastic. Sgurr nan Gillian has to be the best mountain summit for sustained thrill but so closely followed by the others.
Amazing watch this 👍The fitness and skillset you show and to film it for us to see is amazing mate . What a accheivment to have done 200 . And on to the next you go well done mate
I got accused on Sgur nan Gillean of looking like i was out for a sunday stroll , hah, i did it from the opposite side from you , in the mist , so it wasnt until the mist lifted that i got a glimpse of what i had achieved as i am used to the big roundy hills on the mainland , well done you
Well done James on ur 200th Munro and what a cracker to reach it on.😃👏👏You certainly picked a good week weatherwise to go to Skye.Great video footage of all ur days out.Still have 2 left on Skye ,Am Basteir and Sgurr Alasdair.
Big congrats on the 200 James. What amazing scenery, grateful to have been on the mighty Cuilins myself and great to relive it again through your vids.
Wow what can I say, this mini series on Skye has just been amazing. Thanks for taking us along with you James and many congratulations on Munro 200. These really are serious peaks and not to be tackled lightly, Dave your guide was a great chap to have along the way, a shame about his lunch though!
Congratulations James, it has been great following you so far. I am too auld and stiff now to finish the Skye hills, so it was great to see the views. Your filming and editing gets better all the time. once again thanks for sharing. ATB
Another great edit, I really enjoyed watching all these videos just as much as I enjoyed being in the hills with you. Thank you these videos will last a life time and help me remember our great week togethr, I look forward to our future adventures.
Great video! Did these 3 today with Glenmore Lodge. Came up via SE ridge (tourist route!?) and went down from Am Basteir round the back and through the King's Cave (managed to bag the Tooth too). Fantastic seeing the features we came across on tje ridge on your video. Thanks. Sgurr nan Gillean was my 50th and celebrated with can of coke! What a mountain and what views.
Really good video. Echoing what you said, James, it’s surprising the lack of attention given to Sgurr nan Gilean - I felt more exposed there than on the Inn Pinn. Definitely one of the UK’s best and most challenging peaks.
Big congratulations to you. So chuffed for ya getting to 200 and compleating the Cuillin ridge. Hope you enjoyed them. It's my favourite area along with Cairngorms. Very different mountains though eh 😂 and relax......
Many Congratulations, my friend: your enjoyment of that moment is so plain to see! Interesting names these mountains have: I've no doubt most of it's English-speaking visitors will have had a great laugh at that of no. 199 and I suppose executioners must have been described in that oh-so-similar way on many occasions too! And who but the youngest and fittest men could even attain the summit of 200? You have achieved so much, young James - and thank-you for sharing it all with lesser mortals such as me...!
200 well done 👏 Great munro to have as your 200th 👍 The exposure and the climbing looked way more exposed on Gillean than it does on the in-pin( on your vid) . But then again I've not done them , so what do you think ? I hope there is a way to avoid that bad step on Am Basteir that looked impossible without ropes 😱
Thank you! I think they are similar but Gillean was slightly trickier for me, I think there is one harder move than In-Pin.. enjoyable with a guide though! Yes there is a bypass for the bad step but it is also difficult & exposed, I think route finding is the most challenging thing in the cuillin! Enjoy, Cheers, James
I would never, ever be roped to anyone else whilst all are moving. If one of the other persons falls, there's a real danger he/she will pull you off too. I think "short roping" is incredibly dangerous. I will only be roped if one person is fully and securely belayed. But what a ridge that is.

Really good video. Echoing what you said, James, it’s surprising the lack of attention given to Sgurr nan Gilean - I felt more exposed there than on the Inn Pinn. Definitely one of the UK’s best and most challenging peaks.

Very informative vid. Thanks. I'll be subscribing! What boots are those? They look like a cross between a hill boot and a rock boot.
Thank you! They are the La Sportiva TX4 Mid GTX boots 😁 I’m a big fan! Cheers, James
Hi James, well done on completing your 200th Munro it looked epic, how much does it cost for a guide?
Thanks Lee, Dave is 300 a day for 1:1 for this sort of thing. Worth every penny though! Cheers, James
Told you Ben Wyvis was pretty ordinary and you’d change your mind about your favourite mountains when you visit the Cuillin, An Teallach etc.
Your right there 🤣
How does Dave get down the rappelling bits?? 🤔
He abseils too 😁
Has the 'bad step' on Am Bastier got harder since I did it? I don't recall it being much of a problem
Depends on your experience I suppose, its rated Severe but its a very short down climb.. I was happy to have a rope on 😁
RIP Dave.
epic
How much is a guide for the day please ?
300 a day for 1:1
Wow just incredible. Always watch them through the tv and it’s better than any other show out there! Good luck for the next 82. Might be able to watch without stressing 🫣
