To be more precise: the game chooses an air block on top of a solid block. From there it will wander a random amount of blocks in a random direction horizontally. The mob will then spawn there. This resulting block may very well be tall grass or similar, as long as it's on top of a solid block. This means that, if you have a flat world with something like tall grass or carpets etc covering the whole ground, no mobs can spawn anymore. But even if the world is not flat, tall grass and similar will slow down mob spawning even if they won't completely prevent it. Note that this is still only true for the older versions of minecraft
I love how Endermen are so committed to not dying to water that they'll teleport out of it to safety instantly, but they're perfectly content to let themselves fall to an instant death. xD Great video!

Never occurred to me that the entire course of a 1.7 speedrun was governed by the time of day, that's actually a really interesting routing quirk. Also, "The Tower" is an appropriately ominous name given its function, I guess. Great video, very interesting!
1.7 can in theory be non time of day dependent - if you luck out you can effectively do a peaceful run where you trade books to librarians to get emeralds and emeralds with a cleric to get eyes of ender. I recall watching an Illumina run where he encountered the set up but it didnt work out. Peaceful runs are weird but kind of enjoyable to watch
“TNT is the fastest way to collect sand during a speedrun” Or at any other time actually! TNT is about 20% faster than an efficiency shovel, including crafting time (well as long as you have a gunpowder farm at least)
Could breaking down pillars of sand (or gravel) by letting them fall on torches be a viable option for speedruns? It's tricky, but even breaking a single extra sand with a torch is faster than digging; torches are instantly broken the moment you would have *started* digging a sandblock. Now imagine how fast that can be at the bottom of the desert sand layer. You just have to be really quick with placing the damn things 😅

I thought this was going to be outdated, because as of now its 4 months old, but it wasnt because its an old version of minecraft, and I really enjoyed watching this!
To add another reason for finding deserts: As far as i know a significant amount (90% ish) of zombie spawn attempts fail in deserts due to husk spawn attempts which also fail, leading to a greater % of all other mobs in deserts.
i'd love to see if tower strats could be done in 1.16 in a warped forest, with a piglin trading box somewhere nearby, this would reduce the rng of piglin trades, and would theoretically be possible given respawn anchors, however to do it you would need to harvest glowstone, both the 12 powder needed for the recipe and plenty to fuel it, and be lucky enough to find enough crying obsidian to craft it. This could arguably add more rng to the run, and would require a tower set up optimized for the nether, but all in all, theoretically, could be faster, as not only would you be getting pearls from piglin trades, you'd also be getting them from the tower, so if you get super unlucky with trades and aren't dream, you could still have a viable run.
i think looting the gold in bastions gives so many ingots that its almost impossible to barter with piglins and not get enough pearls, string , obsidian and fire resistence potions to have a good run - and runners are doing bastion looting in a few minutes - a nice idea though re towers
you can finish your trades and get to the fortress before you even finish the tower You should find warped forest and you don't get fire resistance, strings and, most important, obsidian. Because you can't blind without obisdian you'll spend 5 minutes getting to the stronghold
Cscuile is an insane genius. Using sand as the tower building material and to block up that hole containing the pearls is massive brain. This man has revolutionised pearl gathering and possibly minecraft speedrunning entirely.

Simply put this won't happen. In order for this to happen it would require having a WR nether entry or close to, with tools and food (2:00) spawning in a fortress with a bastion incredibly close and accessable, perfect blaze drop rates with exceptional spawn rates, (3:00) unthinkable luck with bastion trading and the perfect bastion, (4:30) blind travel into the portal room and a god perch. It just simply isn't going to be possible. Look at FSG, where you are guaranteed a looting sword, information about the seed ahead of time like ruined portals, ships, villages etc. Even with all of that advantage nobody has even gotten remotely close to sub 5. With the current stratagies and techs we have in 1.16 Minecraft, it won't happen. The only way for sub 5 to happen would be for either new game changing discoveries to be made and advancement of our tech, or to roll and be able to recognize a set seed. Even when people like Couriway run RSG WR seeds as SSG with all the knowledge, he is nowhere near sub 7 forget sub 5. You could even look at Icarus runs, where you literally have the ability to fly using elytra and rockets. WR Is 9:49. Sub 5 isn't just an insanely hard challenge it just simply put won't be possible without new game changing strategies.

In newer versions, the block needs to obstruct the hitbox to prevent spawning (redstone dust is an exception) so no, it won't work.

Nah, there are no husks in pre 1.9 so they are not an issue
