WIth the prolific shooters and a few defensive minded specialists combined with all the experience, I just don't see how they can have an "off" season. The SEC will be a gauntlet this season, but this is a really good roster and Pope is an incredible teacher. He's created a very positive culture and his offense is as cutting edge as it gets. Anything can happen but if they can stay healthy I can't see this failing.
I love Oweh, but he reminds me of a smaller Adou. He will play a lot, but I do not see him starting. Here is my Starting Lineup: Butler, Robinson and Carr (locks), Williams at Center, and either Brea, Chandler, or Kriisa in the final spot. I will say it will be interesting how many minutes Travis Perry gets as I see him as a Bucket and think he can play either Guard Position.
We have a lot of experienced interchangeable parts but the biggest thing that I have gleaned so far is Pope's positivity and drive to improve the TEAM. Not just self promotion and exclaiming individual players. I have high expectations but I just feel like the foundation is being set. If others don't see it then that's fine. They will find out! GO BIG BLUE!!!
It's understandable many dontknow just how far we fell under cow and they all still think it's 2012 apparently. This year will show alot to them!! Poor Z still not allowed to shoot threes lol...
Given a new coach that is unproven at the level that Kentucky expects to win, all new players and chemistry, and not the typical elite recruiting class Kentucky is used to, I would just advise to go into this season with low expectations. We hope for the best, but lets keep it real.
I dont think the athleticism is gonna be where we are used to seeing it with cal, however, i believe the quality of basketball on display will be much improved, and we know first hand what quality basketball did to cals teams. I like what i see on paper. Cant wait to see it on the floor.
I agree Lance. The National media and the top recruits seem to have lost all respect for our Kentucky program. At the moment, we can only attract mid level talent. Coach Pope’s old school is now getting elite talent (but only after Coach Pope left). I hope things improve, but I’m quite worried about the future of our basketball program.
I have no idea who will or should start. Bunch of pieces and talent from different experiences. I like Butler, Oweh, Robinson, Garrison and Williams due to proven defensive ability and nearly 60 ppg last year. Probably not the best offensive unit but tell me who will score on that 5! And like I said, they are proven scorers. I don't know any better than anyone else but I would love to see that line-up. They have a deep, experienced team so you can swap that 5 for the next and have an argument. Garrison is probably the only "true" center but I believe he is extending his range and developing a jumper. The player I'm most excited to see is Williams. He seems to have that dog in him and I think he will flourish in Coach's system. He is a good shooter and WILL space the floor.
Lance I really don’t understand your take on Otega “playing the wing” so he won’t start at the two. The two and the three are the exact same thing in pope systems, I don’t understand your stance here
In conclusion I really wouldn’t be suprised to see him starting for multiple reasons. 1. He’s a better defender than brea 2. Brea is already very comfortable coming off of the bench 3. Starting Otega would make him very likely to return as a senior if he doesn’t get drafted. Pope said that Otega and all other possible returners are the most prioritized recruits for next season. Pope values returners
Butler brea robinson carr and williams will be your starting lineup with kerr perry chandler almanore and garrison backing up those positions, oweh is not gonna get a super lot of run this year, word is he is the only player that is not really picking it up right now and struggling, a lot can change with that from now till season starts but if it doesn’t expect what i said

Also Otega is a very capable shooter in catch and shoot situations and shot terrible off the dribble
