"A mom and dad whose son was killed in a 2012 school shooting testified they were harassed for years by hoaxers, including being sent photos of dead children, in a trial that will determine how much conspiracist Alex Jones must pay to the families of Sandy Hook for spreading lies about the shooting.
Parents Ian and Nicole Hockley gave separate testimonies in a Connecticut courtroom Tuesday to talk about the onslaught of abuse and threats they received in the days, weeks and years following the death of their 6-year-old son Dylan.
“I got sent pictures of dead kids because [hoaxers said] as a ‘crisis actor’ I didn’t know what dead kids looked like,” Nicole testified.
Dylan was among 20 children and six adults who were killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting. In the years following, Infowars host Alex Jones spread the vicious lie that the parents were all “crisis actors” who didn’t suffer any tragedy. A jury will now determine how much he’ll have to pay to several Sandy Hook families after he lost his case to default judgement. In August, Jones was ordered to pay $45 million in punitive damages to another pair of Sandy Hook parents for his lies."

The sick part of the entire thing is the sick fk knows exactly what he is doing. He knows the truth, yet saw money as more important than the heartbreak of his fellow American human beings and made a conscious decision to go after them so he could make more money........These people have no business in our society period. It's our own fault for allowing these kinds of people to sponge off the ignorant without punishment.

I hope the judge adds a stipulation to any and all monetary compensation. If he can't afford the entire judgment, then anything he makes should be garnished heavily until the judgment is paid in full.

According to free speech hero Joe Rogan, Alex Jones should be allowed to do things like this and not face any consequences. Like the old saying goes, "first they came for Alex Jones and I didn't speak out because I didn't like Alex Jones."
First off, there's a world of difference between Joe Rogan and Alex Jones. Rogan, moron that he is, didn't defame anyone, causing mobs of nutjobs to harass the parents of murdered children. There are limits to free speech. That's why Jones is getting sued and Rogan isn't. You cannot knowingly tell lies about people, causing them damage and not compensate them. And in any case, the First Amendment protects the rights of free speech from government interference. Well, it's not the government coming after him, is it.
As for Rogan, he's received quite of bit of criticism for his idiocy. The First Amendment protects his right to spew his idiocy, not the right to be free from criticism for said idiocy. People like you seem to think that being criticized for your stupidity means that your free speech rights are being curtailed. Not the case. And again, the government has done nothing to stop him from saying what he wants.

But if something that's criminally actionable comes out during a civil trial--such as perjury ... which has already come out, or disobeying the judge ... same thing--I would hope that legally speaking, a criminal trial would be the next step for such crimes. It was my understanding that any form of perjury or disobedience of a judge's order, even in a civil case, was it self a criminal matter, not merely a civil one. But the rules are always different for people like Jones. That's what makes the U.S. "justice" system so tragic.
