Man if that librarian was around, the third age wouldve been so much easier for everyone.

If they brought the 1 ring to that librarian had have it mount doom during his lunch break. Give that man a task and he gets it done easy as pie.

Official canon has the rings of power being made around Second Age 1500 with the three elven rings being made around 1590. Sauron made the One Ring around 1600, while the war of the Last Alliance we see as the prologue to lotr happened around Second Age 3441. So yeah, Elendil and Isildur should not be alive yet while the rings are being made but about 1600 years later. I get that they're contracting the timeline a bunch but I would personally be fine with having the human cast go through a couple generations while the Elves stay on board, give us a couple time skips of a few hundred years really contrasting the pacing of Elven and Human lives. Haven't seen episode three yet but so far I'm enjoying it well enough, minus a few irksome changes here and there.

@@Emperorhirohito19272 They aren't doing big time jumps, at least haven't noticed evidence of that yet. But I think it would be cool, to do bigger time jumps and have the Elven cast stay on. All they seem to be doing right now is condense the important bits of the Second Age into the lifespan of one (Numenorean) human.

Yeah this is my biggest gripe with the rings of power so far. I like most of what i've seen but where so dissapointed by what this has done for the story of Numenor. I knew they would compress several thousand years down to hundreads, but figured they would at least start of with a young Elendil and have Isildur being born in a later season or something.
It also makes little sense how much the numenorians already hate the elves despite their first king Elros the halv elven (Elrond's brother) is supposedly still alive. That would imply this is still in the early days of the Numenorian kingdom and it should be at most 400 years since the Valar originaly granted them the island and they should at most be on their second king (which should be Elendil's father but i guess they just scrapped all of the kings family line)

Yeah the way they handled the timeline is easily a major flaw in the show that will lead to cracks in the story as it progesses a few seasons. I really wish they did some time jumps. Especially these days where you have audiences that are accepting of large time skips.
It can even lead to the story being delivered in a much more impactful way, since using time in a narrative is a hugely important narrative tool to give events a certain weight, and it's something the lore uses a lot. Another show that comes to mind where time skips actually helped the narrative was the first season of the Witcher. The first 3 or so episodes comprised of a few short segments that skipped over in total about 30 years, as they delivered Geralt's past. It worked, and it made the events afterward hold much more weight, especially any interaction with Geralt and yennefer. That was only 30 years
They very easily could have worked into a series of time skips that jumped over the early days of the second age, give us a look at the ancestors in the Southlands and some Numenor ancestors, jump to the forging of the rings, and then end the last half of the season with what we've seen so far in the "present" along with knowledge the rings are around.

if you read the books the elves actually can live forever as long as they don’t grow too weary of life or get too badly injured

if you read the books the elves actually can live forever as long as they don’t grow too weary of life or get too badly injured so it could be the same two even 3000 years on Elrond was very old and he mentions older elves
The oldest elf is thought to be about 10000 though the average life span of an elf is about 200-400 years

How Numenorean aging works is that they age normally until about they hit middle age and then they stop aging for most of their life. How long they live varies as it declined over time. Early on they could live up to something like 800 years but by the end of the Second Age it was something like 200-300 years. When Numenoreans got close to the end of their lives they would start aging rapidly.
An "Age" is also not a set period of time and they all vary widely. Ages start and end based on important events. The Second and Third Ages were each over 3000 years long, each ending with Sauron being defeated. The First Age is a bit vague since it began with the creation of the universe and ended with the fall of Morgoth (aka the devil, aka Sauron's boss). I don't think Tolkien ever wrote down how long the First Age was, but it was likely longer than the First and Second Ages combined.

They seem to just be towards the end of the Second Age given that Elendil and Isildur are alive.

The time compression is crazy, there's no point in even guessing what year the showrunners think it is. Especially if the stranger turns out to be Gandalf (no spoilers, cus we don't know who it is yet), he should turn up till like 1000 years after Isildur cutting Sauron's hand.

I myself didn't watch. but a friend of mine was really hyped about the first two episodes and ranted because they had to put Isildur in and couldn't just fill the void in time with original characters. this condensing isn't better at all.

It's not perfect, but it's good enough to be enjoyable. People just should accept the time period is compressed, not a big deal really.

@@Dinosaursrecycle A huge overstatement. I enjoyed Jackson's work a lot, but I was never a diehard LOTR fan like some are. But Rings of Power is just abysmal writing. To the point I question why Amazon hired writing staff that are so evidently...inept? Inexperienced? I have no idea, but they definitely don't have a talent for writing. You'd think they hired some of their warehouse workers to work on the show.
I was honestly laughing out loud in the first few episodes with how some of the lines try so hard to sound philosophical but come out sounding ridiculous. Like "Do you know why a ship floats and a stone cannot." Holy hell. If you don't know/care about writing then it might entertain for its high production value and fantasy setting. But...if you read, I'd be surprised if you get past the first episode. Just find something else to watch. 'Kleo' is a German series that came out recently and is really fucking good. Go watch that instead. (I also hate, even as a casual LOTR fan, what they did with the character of Galadriel. She was such a fascinating and unique female character from the books and original movies. But now she's just a generic muscle brained...bitch?)
