The brass section is super clean and perfectly prepared. Not many renditions of this ouverture are played so well. Bravo.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at his finest.

I've been in the same piano competition with Tarmo (he won his age category easily) and I've seen him live twice after that. His improvisation skills are unbelievable. I've seen him perform Mozart's 20th piano concerto and Liszt's arrangement of Beethoven's 5th symphony, and for the concerto, he improvised an amazing cadenza. For an encore, he asked the audience to name famous tunes and then improvised a piece based on those themes. He's a big name in our country (Finland) and on top of his prodigious musical skills, he's a super nice and funny guy!

Well. I have played under him, it was one of the most unpleasant experiéces i have had with any conductors.
Maybe a nice guy in life, but absolutely unsufferable on the podium. The administration had a similar reaction, so it’s not only the musicians he treats like absolute garbage.

@@IZn0g0uDatAll That genuinely surprises me. Can you recall something specific he has said or done that set you off?

      @@late8641 Well, everything.
He was extremely condescending. It felt he tried to play a character, but none of it felt authentic or genuine.
There was no warmth in his dealing with the orchestra, just this macho and arrogant attitude. He was keeping that super tense heroic position with the chin up, the chest forward and the shoulders as back as possible. Everything in his being felt forceful and cold.
When players made mistakes, he was making faces, like they were complete idiots.
He has a fine technique, but I have rarely been so provoked by someone on the podium. I have to say that most of the orchestra had the same vibe from him.
I have no doubt that he is a nice guy with his friends but I really hope never to play under his baton again. Being treated like a 10 years old by those finnish wunderkids with those fabricated personalities gets old really quickly. That project was downright painful.
For context, I would not name my band on the internet but I play in a west european national orchestra of arguably a much higher standing than his orchestra in Toulouse.

@@IZn0g0uDatAll Thanks for the elaboration. It's really interesting how many young conductors are coming from Finland these days. In fact, I'm striving to be one of them, but I'm only at the very beginning of my journey. Finding out what Tarmo has been like and hearing how obnoxious his pretentious and condescending behavior has been, I will definitely make sure I don't act like that in front of fellow musicians who are obviously skilled and knowledgeable. Making music together should be fun, not a test where every small mistake is mocked. His attitude seems to be a regrettably common trait amongst people who have achieved high appraisal at a young age. Even Klaus Mäkelä seems to be a little full of himself now that he has achieved international fame.

Much have been debated about Tarmo's skills. Would he be a real talent or only one more hype made up by the classical music industry? This performance solves all questions. He is far superior (in easiness as much as in profundity) to recent made-up industry inventions (such as Dudamel whose fame is more based on the woke philosophy backed by Abbado than on real talent)!

His gestures are impish and undignified…Reality will set in soon and then he’ll have to go back to learning music. We don’t need children running orchestras

I think his ideas on the piece and what he does at the rehearsals is more important than his way of conducting, but I respect your pov too, but I think it goes further than just gestures

    • @B8THOV3N
      @B8THOV3N 2 месяца назад +1

@@Musicapiano123 Right. It's more efficient at rehearsals to show what you want more with gestures than with words. One of the conductor's jobs is to physicalise the sound. At this point, I think the orchestra is better than him IMO. He's too young. Hopefully, there will be more artistic maturity and depth in the future.
