I personally met Adrian when he came into my restaurant with his son in Montreal back around the early 2000's during their Brave New World tour. He explained to me he was sticking around the city while the rest of the band had moved on as his wife is from Montreal. He was an absolute gentleman and all around super nice guy. He was really impressed when I told him I was listening to his solo work (ASAP). We had a wonderful 10 minute conversation. It's a memory I'll never forget.
He lives near me and when I worked at my local cinema he would come in regularly with his family,I would never bother him (how however much I wanted to) because he was with his kids,but I remember around the time that Bruce released chemical wedding he came in to watch that 90’s Godzilla film and afterwards he wife has left her purse in the screen,he came back and I went and got it..I said I was a massive fan and that I really enjoyed chemical wedding we had a nice chat and I off he went,I thought that was it.
10 minutes later he comes back and gives me a chemical wedding promo wind breaker thing that he had in his car and signed it for me.
I still have it 😊

@@risbo.roughsmoothy5175 Victory Hot Dogs. It was on Beaver Hall Hill. We had to relocate as the building was eventually torn down.

@@ZiggyAndTheSpiders ah, the music video is 7:24, but that includes credits at the end. My point still stands though: a song thats over 6 minutes is "short."
I pre ordered the vinyl and that's 3 records so yeah some epic tunes on the way.

Hearing Adrian talking so well about the end product just makes me even more excited. To be honest, Iron Maiden has given me pretty much everything I want in terms of music - but to add another masterpiece is just amazing.
They created it before. It's been done for 2 years...

I’m extremely excited for this album. Iron Maiden was my first true musical love at 11 years old. I’m 46 now and in all those years I’ve listened to this band steadily and frequently. Even the Blaze albums I love. These songs are a soundtrack to my young to adult life and I still love them more than ever. It’s always a religious experience for me to get new Maiden. I will jihad for Maiden!!! Up the irons!!!!
Adrian Smith is a genius guitarist and songwriter! -if he says the album is great sonically, then it probably is not far from the truth.
He always struck me as someone that is just purely into music, and not that interested in the business side of things.

Adrian’s importance in this band is up there with Steve and Bruce. His writing contributions have been not only necessary but welcomed with open arms. From 22 Acacia Ave to Wasted Years to Paschendale and beyond he is a fantastic guitar player and even better songwriting. Up the Irons!!!

Writing on the wall is incredible and I think one of the best since the 80s. Fan since early 80s and ready for you to get back to New England . Maidens last time thru Mansfield Massachusetts I took my 15 year old Nephew to his first Maiden concert and he can't wait to go again. Get back here soon boys.

I'm quite tired of the overlong shit... - It was cool when it was around 7 minutes and you had the even longer standouts like "Rime", but now it's just a drag.
I've been a fan for 20 years and a musician for almost as long, but these longer ones tend to feel more like they're trying too hard to "be epic" now.
Ironically, it was the reason why I loved Maiden, I wasn't much into the shorter hits like (the cliché "Run to the Hills") and such, still am not as much, and rather the more progressive and expansive storytelling kind of stuff. But you can really overdo things, like movies and series can be too long as well. - And the fact that they have to stuff it all onto two CDs or three Vinyl records is kind of hilarious and a bad sign to me. - But that's my personal experience. I'm also not your typical fan who thinks "more is better". I'll see if there's anything good in it, I never write things off without trying, but ugh... It's just an investment of time and energy now.

I do like complex, long songs like Blind Guardian tend to do, and my favorite Maiden song is in fact Paschendale (almost 9mins), but with some of the longer Maiden songs I get the feel they are just long because they didn't dampen them down to their essence. A lot of repetition, I don't think a song benefits from just having more verses/choruses. Having said that, I thought that Writings sounded pretty fresh for Maiden standards and therefore I'm still interested in the new album, even if a bit worried about the lenght.
They are the artist and can express themselves as long as they want. If you don't like it then it's just not your thing. They don't owе you anything. If you like shorter songs go listen to the punk rock music. Most of the songs in this genre are like minute and a half long.

I agree with Adrian on “writing on the wall” sounding more folk than country. Spotify interestingly has put it in a “southern comfort” playlist with southern/blues rock songs. “Days of future past” possibly a single?

Back in the day, there was a kid (Tony if I recall his name correctly) who was wearing a black arm-band in one of our local rock clubs.I asked him what it was for. He got all emotional and said "Haven't you heard ? Adrian Smith just left Iron Maiden !!"

Must admit if Adrien is that happy then it must be awesome. He’s always most of the time unhappy with some of the albums. DoD I think he was very critical. So can’t wait for Sept 3

Didn't care for the album first few listens, but it's become my favorite album.
I think the real burning question is "how many Adrian Smith songs are in the album?" because we all know that the more of them, the better it will be.

Interesting to hear Adrian's comments on the production. If he of all people is giving it that much praise, it must be good. I'd certainly be inclined to believe him given that not only has he been with the band since Killers (with that 10 year gap between Seventh Son and BNW), but he contributes maybe just as much as Steve, if not more. For example, he's contributed to and written a lot of songs on every post reunion album, and has a solo in almost every song.
Also, he's happy with the production, which is good enough for me even if I don't really care about that kind of thing. I actually quite like Shirley's production style anyway.
Don't forget he's one of their best writers, amazing work on Bruce Dickinson's solo albums from Accident of Birth, The Chemical Wedding, and Tyranny of Souls. He's a great guitarist and genius mind

I remember buying Adrian's solo album silver and gold back in 1990 if I remember rightly I was gutted when he left Maiden and over the moon when he came back he belongs in Iron Maiden up the Irons Lee Hambleton from Sheffield
