Waves magma BB Tubes review: ruclips.net/video/TPYJG48Ytbs/видео.html
Thank you! This is not just a review but a tutorial too. I love it when you combine them like this!
Many thanks for your kind words! I try to incorporate them both, doesn’t always succeed ;-)
Another geweldige review! Thanks! I'm out of need for channel strips but I always enjoy watching your reviews 👌
haha, nice one. Appreciate your views!
ADORE your unbiased walkthrus as always mate...🤓👍👍
Many thanks man, I try my best!
This sounds pretty good!!
It actually is!
That thickening appears to be consistent with the BB Tubes Transformer turned on....which kinda makes sense. A tube console channel would always have transformers influencing them similarly.
spot on.
4:10 oh no, looks like it reflects at Nyquist? still no oversampling modes by waves?
nope, no options for that on this one.
It's just another nice flavor of distortion and EQ, which is certainly very useful at times.
Absolutely!
I like it. Simple but very effective.
It is!
I dunno, this feels more like a saturator with some additional, simplified functionalities added than a true channel strip one might use in versatile situations across a variety of tracks. It seems to give individual channels more presence and perceived loudness via saturation, pushing them further to the front of the mix, but may not give much nuance or flexibility to glue tracks together or sculpt a mix among multiple parts as one. I'd rather just use a saturator to taste, such as Waves BB Tubes, and pair it with separate Gate/EQ/Compression or even another channel strip that offers more flexibility in shaping EQ curves, etc., like an SSL emulation or any of the other channel strip options available, including very good ones from Waves. I suppose as an augmented saturator it has some value, but I wouldn't really think of it as a channel strip in terms of applications.
Well the basic channel strip usually has input gain, eq and dynamics, so it that regard it fully is a channel strip. A channelstrip works on each channel independantly and does not necessarily glue, for that you're usually looking into bus processing like bus compressors.
The channels on my hardware desk dont even have dynamics, but they still are channelstrips ( where the actual name comes from).
That said, this magma channelstrip isnt surgical, for that you need to find something else and your proposed workflow seems very valid :-)
@@whitenoisestudio Yeah, I agree. It has the features of a channel strip. I was thinking less about the tool features/definition and more about how one might really want to use the tool: defining the tool by the function/outcome it provides. Simple plugins that do a good job faster are valuable. It's just that, to me the goal of a channel strip is to get you a good result conveniently and faster than you would get there by summing the parts together in a chain. And they can be transparent or add character, as various versions of SSL do or as the Waves Abbey Road channel strip does. But those other examples feel to me like they, even when pushed, aren't designed to take you where this one does, which is full out distortion. To me that makes those other options more suitable and versatile for general purpose as channel strip tools. The extra, added value of this one is precisely in that saturation push, making it unique, but once you decide you want to go there, you are already deeper into sound design territory, and once you are there, you probably want to dial in more specificity with separate EQ, compression, etc. I suppose there can be a case where one would use this extra drive and its added functions as a channel strip, technically, but it feels to me like that use case is pretty narrow. Maybe I'm wrong, though, and some types of music may really feature this.
I probably don't strictly need this, but I'm gonna buy it anyway, lol.
As long as you used my link ^^
Does this sound just like the Magma tube plugin they released a few months ago?
I use that on every track. Don’t want to get the same plug twice.
the tube section, yes. But there are more added features on this one, like the eq and compression. You can wonder why they didnt include it in the forst place, but money needs to keep rolling right ;-)
I miss the Amek compressor review 😀
You and me both!
Indeed !!
No Aliasing Hell from WAVES? How come? :D
When I first heard of this channel strip from Waves I thought, I wonder what Marlon will say about it?
Now you know ^^
Thanks, how is the CPU usage of this one?
Very little for me, a few %
Cool, thanks
No oversampling when the tubes has it, don't understand the thinking by Waves
I would love to have seen that functionality as well, but tbh how much does it really matter? Hasn’t hurt the millions of songs the plugins are used on.. ( but waves should have the option 100%)
@@whitenoisestudio thing is on one track it won't matter. If however you are slapping this on every track as a channel strip then that aliasing from the drive will accumulate. It's a strange omission as they built it into bb tubes
Yup, you're right. Was just teasing you. I dont understand why it isnt in this one tbh.
It’s actually broken on BB Tubes, so maybe they took it out so they don’t get bad reviews. Hopefully it gets fixed.
If you are using Reaper, you don't need Oversampling in a plug-in. You can Oversample EVERYTHING in Reaper
This is just BBTubes with a couple of extra bells and whistles isn’t it?
yeah basically a few bells and whistles more, with 1 bell less ( the beast mode)
@@whitenoisestudio interesting. They sent owners of BBTubes a $5 discount to make it $24.99 so I’ll probably get it anyway as it’s under the price of a couple of drinks. Great demo BTW 💯
O that's actually kinda nice of Waves. Thanks for your kind words!
Waves? Yawn.
