The name "KIMBA THE WHITE LION" was changed for overseas use when the anime was exported to foreign countries, and the original Japanese versions were released as " JUNGLE EMPEROR" and " JUNGLE EMPEROR, LEO“.
The name of the main character in the Japanese original is not “KIMBA” but "LEO," a white lion, and Leo's father is "PANJA”.
Remember that the original Japanese title "JUNGLE EMPEROR" means exactly what Disney's "The LION KING" means.
“The Jungle Emperor” was created by OSAMU TEZUKA in 1950 as a Japanese-style cartoon MANGA for children.
Osamu Tezuka is credited with originating and popularizing the current Japanese method of manga in the 1950s.
He is also the person who animated his own original manga works and realized the TV broadcasting system.
He was the one who continued to write his original manga work on his sickbed until just before he passed away at the age of 60.
He was also the first person to animate Astro Boy, his original manga, for TV in Japan in the 1960s, creating an animation boom in Japan.
In the 1950s, the Japanese version of Walt Disney was already in existence in Japan.
Without OSAMU TEZUKA, Japanese animation would not be what it is now today!
1950 - "JUNGLE EMPEROR"Manga serialization began in the monthly magazine “Manga Shonen”.
1965 - On October 6, 1965, a color TV animation series produced by Mushi (Osamu Tezuka) Productions began airing on Japan's Fuji Television network as JUNGLE EMPEROR.
It was later exported and renamed " KIMBA THE WHITE LION " and broadcast in the U.S. and many other countries around the world.
1966 - "Color Animation JUNGLE EMPEROR the Movie" was released in Japan's Toho Pictures system.
Isao TOMITA was in charge of the film's music. Released as the composition "Symphonic Poem: JUNGLE EMPEROR ".
Osamu Tezuka grew up Japanese, so I think the starting point of his ideas was man's place in the natural world.
He probably thought that in the basic Japanese conception, man was not the ruler of nature in the first place, but only an element of a part of nature.
And yet, humans have been trying to remake nature without considering the overall balance of the earth, just for human intentions and convenience.
He calls the “jungle” a symbol of nature as it is in this story as a contrast between human behavior and nature, and mankind as a creator of artifacts.
In this sense, Tezuka probably wanted to depict the king of Africa as a representative of nature (on the earth) , rather than the king of a single tribe of lions. That is why he chose the title “The Jungle Emperor” instead of “The Lion King”.
(I guess he used the word “jungle” instead of “lion tribe” to describe the conflict between mankind and the natural world of the earth, in the sense of a king representing the natural world on earth.)
If you read Tezuka's original work, you will understand what he intended.
1966 - The 4th Nippon Television Press Association Special Award.
Won the first prize for the best TV movie of the year from the Ministry of Health and Welfare's Japan Central Children's Cultural Properties Division.
Received the Japan Children's Welfare and Culture Award from the Minister of Health and Welfare.

My friend, it's The Lion King's 30th anniversary, and the only difference between Kimba and the film is we got a show featuring Timon and Pumbaa, that crossover ending in 1 in a half, a broadway show and you don't have a woman jealous of Simba when he hangs out with her boyfriend like in Kimba 1965, not that she would to the same treatment as Rover Dangerfield's owner's boyfriend by doing away with Simba. Not to mention Mufasa's face after he got skinned like Kimba's dad similar to King Leonidas' face at the end of that "wonderful" piece of parody history Meet the Spartans.

I won’t deny that there are similarities, but it isn’t a bad thing. From what I have observed from watching both, they are ultimately two different stories with different themes. Any similarities between the two are based on the fact that they are set in Africa and as a result feature the same kinds of animals. I honestly see zero reason to get mad about it.
In addition, Osamu Tezuka’s family and Tezuka Productions want nothing to do with the controversy. They have seen the resemblances between Kimba and The Lion King, but they recognise that they are two different works.

What similarities are there? The fact there are african animals? Is only Kimba allowed to make a story about african animals?

@@based4560 Who said Kimba was the only one allowed to make a story about African animals? I certainly didn’t and as far as I know, no one else ever said anything like that.
I also don’t need to tell you what similarities there are. Just watch the video. It will tell you.

@@Gedi2211 the similarities are so vague and unfair because kimba literally has 3000 min of footage so no matter what lion king did there would be similarities. Plus if you count those as similarities then kimba itself copied from the Simba the king of the jungle comic.

@@based4560 When I commented on this video, I never intended to spread negativity or bring shame on Disney. I do not take sides and I try to be as neutral as possible. Like I said, Kimba the White Lion and The Lion King are two different stories with different themes. I know Disney is not perfect and they have done some questionable things, but with the Lion King, they have demonstrated that it doesn't matter where you get the idea. What matters is that you tell a rousing story.

@@Gedi2211 Ok? Your proving my point. Look man, I have nothing against you. But if you wanna claim that they have similarities (when they're pretty vague, superficial, ignore any context, and are pretty reductive at best) then you can do the same with Kimba and Sime King of the beasts comic. I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy.
