    What the reporter said when she was quoting a professor (?) about how you'll never know just what it's like until you're standing in knee-deep water in your own home, is very true. When I was in high school, we had a devastating flood in our town; my childhood home was one block away from a river, and we had no basement. I will never forget standing in my bedroom with my mom and our dog, as the water just came literally POURING into our house. It was ankle-deep immediately, and rose very fast. We were taken out of the house on a rowboat, floating down our driveway, and didn't get out of the boat for several blocks, to where my dad had parked our car. We couldn't return for 2 weeks, and when we did, the house had to be stripped down to the beams. I didn't realize at the time how traumatic it would be, as a child, to go from the comforts of home to sleeping on a mattress on the floor, eating off a hot plate, and having bedsheets for walls. Whenever I see footage like this, my heart breaks because I know exactly what those affected are going through. I pray FEMA comes through for them. If you're in an area where you are able to assist and want to help, I can tell you that NOTHING is more appreciated than a hot cup of coffee or tea, a meal, and some kind words. Yes, monetary donations are always needed, but I'll never forget the night the Red Cross pulled up to our house with food, drinks, and supplies. It was a godsend in the middle of a very low point, and made a huge difference. I'll be keeping everyone in the affected areas in my thoughts, and praying for a swift recovery. 💔

EVs and gas powered vehicles are having the same problems with that.
      but you do have to have backup plans.
      we only lost power for awhile, but i was able to function fairly normally just with battery backups, alternative fuels, water purifiers and candles. and lots of canned food. didn't loose the net as it comes in on the phone line, but i guess that could be wiped out with such extensive flooding as was shown in the vid. we only had light flooding.

    Heartfelt condolences to all who have been affected by this devastation. Dear Lord please help those missing get found safe..humans and animals. We had terrible tornado warnings during this storm, that was scary enough. I cannot imagine how you all feel over there. My sister lives in Waynesville, not far. But we are not in touch, sadly. However, I heard she was okay thru the grapevine. Times like this should bring everyone together. We are living in terrifying times. More of this will happen. My goal is to get right with God. I have lived through Katrina, Rita, Ike and Harvey along the Texas Gulf coast. What has happened in Helene seems like all four of those storms rolled into one. I have no words. All I can say is this...When I look on Google maps at the area of Ashville and zoom out on the state, the country and the world, Ashville is but a small dot on the map, though it surely does not seem that way when one is standing in the midst of the destruction. All that to say this...Know that the world is big and populated with good people who are on their way to rescue and help you rebuild. Stay strong. Hold onto to faith and hope in God, who is bigger than even the universe. May the Lord, Jesus Christ, be with you all. Be still and know that He is God...
    Psalm 46
    God is our refuge and strength,
    an ever-present help in trouble.
    Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
    and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
    though its waters roar and foam
    and the mountains quake with their surging.
    There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
    the holy place where the Most High dwells.
    God is within her, she will not fall;
    God will help her at break of day.
    Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
    he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
    The Lord Almighty is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress.
    Come and see what the Lord has done,
    the desolations he has brought on the earth.
    He makes wars cease
    to the ends of the earth.
    He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
    he burns the shields with fire.
    He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth.”
    The Lord Almighty is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress.
