I bought the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the iPhone 15 Pro to see if there was any possibility of switching back to a 6.7" device now that it's finally lighter than ever before. And while I found the 15 Pro to be a lot easier to use on a daily basis, the pros of the 15 Pro Max might have just outweighed the cons for the first time in years.
In this video, I review the iPhone 15 Pro Max vs the iPhone 15 Pro after nearly 1 month of usage, with a SIM card in each phone. We discuss the camera, battery life, performance, design, and much more. Enjoy!

I went from a 13Pro to the 15Pro Max. I did it mainly for the 5x zoom and bigger battery, and I do not regret it. With a slim case it does not feel too big. It is definitely a bit taller than the 13Pro, but it doesn’t seem that much wider. No regrets and I’m loving it.

I hesitated while ordering, but I went for the Pro Max for the first time ever, and I couldn’t have made a better decision. Previous models always felt too bulky, even when I only touched them in the store. However, I had been thinking about really owning the Pro Max for some time because it’s the only way I can truly tell if it’s right for me. And it is. Just before placing the order, I visited the Apple Store to see how it felt, and I was surprised at how different it was from the 12, 13, and 14 with their sharp edges. Oh, and now, whenever I pick up my old 12 Pro, it feels like a weird and too small phone, even though I used to think it was the perfect size.

    • @khfan9437
      @khfan9437 7 месяцев назад

Yeah it’s a weird and awkward size. I’m currently on the 11 (getting my 15 Pro Max today!!!) It’s like…a small phone trying to be big. Way too big to be small, but way too small to properly enjoy content on. The size of the 11 still feels clunky in the hands, so if you’re going to use something like that, might as well get a screen size that actually makes sense…lol

I had the 14 Pro Max, it was too damn heavy and bulky, so when the 15s came out I ordered 15Pro but I couldn’t get past the small display. Then I went to the Apple Store and held the 15ProMax in my hands, it was love at first sight. I exchanged the Pro for the ProMax and I’m SO HAPPY, I love it 😍

I tried the 15 Pro Max but I honestly could not manage it. I went back and exchanged it for the smaller 15 Pro and I’m honestly really happy. I love the smaller more pocketable size. I know I took a bit of a downgrade on the cameras. But I’m not a big photographer anyways and I find myself using the Ultra Wide more than the Tele camera. I don’t regret going back to the smaller phone. If I want a big screen, I’ll use my iPad.

Great video. I know people hate clutter on their phones, but even the Pro is too big for me to use single handed. I attach a ring or pop-up. I usually attach one under MagSafe and slightly closer to the right because I’m right handed. It really makes a difference.

I'm going for the iPhone 15 pro. I've noticed the smaller the phone the less I'll use it. I don't want to be glued to it. The pro also make it less cumbersome to handle such as running, texting, ect. It's easier to place it in smaller spaces such as car mounts and pockets. Yes it has a smaller battery, but I'll use it less too so it evens out.

I'm a normal Pro type of person and this time I tried the 15 Pro Max. Sorry to say, but I still couldn't hang. It definitely feels substantially lighter than PMs I've handled in the past, but I'm all about that one-handedness and I simply cannot achieve such on a PM. I do wish I had that battery life though, that's the biggest advantage imo.

In the exact same boat, always going with the regular- sized iPhone rather than the plus- sized one for the reasons mentioned. Decided to upgrade to the iPhone 15 Pro Max from my iPhone 12 Pro, and it’s been amazing. Can definitely feel the weight reduction and increased comfort when holding it and it hasn’t been as much of a change as I thought it would moving to the bigger phone. The battery life is shockingly good, the bigger display makes my old phone’s seem tiny where it once seemed quite big, and the 5x camera is excellent at taking both landscape as well as portrait photos with the increased bokeh.

I have considered the 15 Pro Max because of the 5X Telephoto Lens but I don't really use zoom. I always wanted the max features that iPhone Pros offers that's why for so long have always got the Pro Max but the switch this year to the 15 Pro it's not bad its actually great after getting used to it again.

You mentioned the shutter lag for 48mp photos is greater on the 15 pro than the 15 pro max, but at least for the demo you had in 8:07, the 15 pro was set for “raw max” to capture 48mp raw; while the 15 pro max was set to HEIF max, which is just taking 48mp heif instead, which is definitely less demanding than 48mp raw. Did this occur every time you went to take raw photos or do you think it maybe came down to settings you had?

assuming that “prioritize faster shooting” was set to be the same on both devices? also, i might be splitting hairs here, but i could definitely imagine that shutter lag on either device would be directly correlated to any smart hdr / deep fusion processing that occurs silently, especially in max mode, as they are multi-exposure image stacks that (as i understand the marketing material) are handled pixel by pixel to ensure optimum image quality across the entire scene. problem is, we don’t know when it’s choosing to do more aggressive smart hdr stacking because, well, iphone.
ALSO: reallllly unlikely because pro iphone etc, but are the storage capacities the same on both devices you tested? with the amount of variance in write speeds between storage capacities on other devices, i wonder if smaller storage configurations would take more time to write multiple 75-100mb images to disk compared with the higher storage. as i understand, iphones only ever have one nand chip, and the macbooks exhibiting this behavior had either one or two nand chips (which affected read/write performance greatly), but just something else to ponder.

These reviews kinda say it all for me. Every new iphone is about somewhat mitigating the minor problems with the previous iphone, along with a few improvements (to things like the camera). The battery gets bigger and better, but only to mitigate the fact we are forced to use bluetooth earphones that run it down (and run out themselves). The phone is slightly easier to carry, but only because they made them too big over the previous years. The casing is better, but only because they started scratching and ever since the iPhone 7, cracking with the slightest knock. I say all this and I’ve ordered a new Pro anyway! Its en route. But each new iteration is as much a pain as it is a joy, if not more.

This year I finally went back to the Pro Max and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. I´m happy so many people found the Max light and manageable but my experience has not been the same. Last big phone I had was an iPhone 8 plus and I was very happy when when Apple ditched the home button allowing for a quite big screen in a not so big form factor. I recently decided to get a 15 pro Max (coming from a regular 12), expecting than the titanium and slightly smaller bezels would be enough this time to make the bigger pro a nice to hold phone, and looking forward to the extended battery and display, but it didn´t work for me.
The 15 pro max is lighter and slightly smaller than the previous generations but it is still a heavy and big phone, specially with a case. I don´t have small hands by any means and still I find the max a little bit too much to handle and too intrusive... I could live with it if there was no alternative, but I found the pro size perfect (still a little bit heavy though compared to the non pro - I´d be really happy if Apple would release a pro aluminum version).
Finally I decided to switch to 15 pro and I´m really happy so far. Having a bigger display is nice sometimes to see movies or play videogames, but this is not something I usually do in my phone and I found myself getting used to both displays sizes after a while (pro´s display is not small at all, it only feels small at the beginning when you are used to a bigger one).
Additionally I find the 3x zoom far more versatile than the 5x, I think there´s too much gap between 1x and 5x to cover it just with digital cropping.
The only thing I really envy from the max is the battery life, but it doesn´t compensate the rest. I ended up buying a little battery pack in case if I´m going to be out for a long time without the possibility of charging the phone (something really occasional).

Seeing the DOF difference between the 3x and 5x only reassures my strong interest in the PM, thank you for noting that.

Will also add that I LOVE my 13 Pro, and I always felt the regular Pro phones were a perfect size. I must be desperate for the best of the best 😅 Also considering switching back to Android for the first time since 2015 after how well the S23U did with battery improvements and catching up to Apple performance (passing in GPU). The pen is awesome love the shutter release feature, split screen multitasking I have been desperately waiting for Apple to introduce to iOS, and Dex.
I am a fan of both OS types but I chose Apple years ago for the rock stable performance, stability, and reliability. Ease of use, always know what to expect from the phone and especially the cameras. I had went for the Pro Max this year for only one month. Due to the extended return window in the holidays I was still able to exchange it. Although I really liked the 5x telephoto lense and the battery life, the phone was just too big and I have average sized hands. I already have an iPad mini and an Apple TV to view videos on, I rarely ever watch videos on my phone. There were many occasions where I would use my phone one handed and say "Man this phone is too big!". I later returned it for the 15 Pro. I really do miss the 5x lense especially when recording videos, photos in low light also benefited. I used to think the 3x telephoto lense was a good zoom length, but now I see just how useless of a focal length 77mm is. With 2x being available I found the 3x telephoto camera very unpractical and rarely used. To me 5x was the sweet spot in where you would actually see a difference in zoom. 3x isnt enough zoom for things far away and it's too much zoom for things up close. The 5x was the sweet spot and zooming past 5x like 6x or 7x looked very solid.

Usually I use WIFI, when I need a larger screen I use my iPad Pro. Should I use 5G and 1 TBit I would need a much more expensive subscription with unlimited amount of data. I discussed this issue with Spectrum. They said they were aware of this problem as it was related to the MMS problems Verizon was having. They were working on diagnosing the source of the problem to fix it. The Spectrum tech told me that switching the Airplane mode on and off would undo the freeze. Two days later it is still not fixed.
