Both are probably excellent games although I havent played POE2 yet. DOS2 is superb and after playing it I think I am more a fan of the turn based combat however that could just be I've spent 300+ hours playing DOS2 and it's the last CRPG, versus the RTwP style of POE and BG. That said just start with one and when you complete that replay it or get the next one.
Thank you everyone for all your insights. I've given it some more thought and unfortunately I can't get through both anytime soon with work and all. I think I'll start out with DOS 2 and eventuallyI'll go to POE 2. Thanks again guys!
Everything worth doing is an insane amount of work ^^ Although admittedly, not everything that is an insane amount of work is worth doing. Still, I firmly believe that a proper in-depth guide on Multiclassing in Deadfire would belong to the first category.
Although it's nerfed now, Brawler (Fighter/Monk) is/was pretty stupidly OP. Tough frontliner with debuff auras, lightning speed movement, very quick attacks with fists only that hit as hard as two-handers if not harder, all the while being able to aoe, stun and spam knockdown.
Any Multiclass featuring Ranger, Monk and Druid seem like a good ones (best classes from the first game I found) whether Druid/Paladin, Druid/Wizard, Ranger/Priest, Ranger/Monk, Monk/Druid, or Monk/Chanter. Im thinking of Ranger/Druid though for my first POE 2 character.
Ok here's a tough question my beloved Fextralife people: What happens to those bottom of the tree abilities if you use Berath's Blessing in a New Game+ ( start game with level 4 ) and, decide to play solo or with a smaller party ?.... Thank you in advance for the explanation... This question is costing me my sleep !
put about 70 hours in and can definitely say that multiclassing is better but only if you know what you're doing. Not sure I feel the same way about mages though, so far it seems like they should stay single to focus on strong spells. Some synergies are awful, but others are incredible. I made a ridiculous swashbuckler (fighter/rogue) where I only took passives and abilities from fighter to complement the rogue, like weapon specialization, cleaving stance, better crits etc. Make him a devoted sabre rattler and even enemies on PotD won't be able to handle him.....until you encounter someone immune to slash damage then you need some utility. The key is to plan your character wisely from the get-go
i disagree with levels 8 or 9 being the most powerful, for many classes what you get by power level 3 is better than 8 or 9, especially in regards to multi classing, see empower abilities to say the first level of assassin with evocation wizard you take basically only your forced points in rogue with some of those being shared passive and it much stronger in its casting than a pure evocation wizarc.
Not entirely true. Some multi-classes make the game super easy at early levels. I actually don't even know if it's worth it to single class anything other than support spellcasters. Duals are just way too good.
So I still have a question that hasn't quite been answered yet by any of these videos. Say I make a Monk/Barbarian, the max ability level I can attain is level 7 abilities. Say I want to get level 7 abilities as Monk, how far will I be able to go with Barbarian? Will I also be able to get level 7 abilities as Barbarian or will I be stuck at much lower tier abilities?
The video doesn't actually go into inherent subclass synergies, and how this actually elevates a dual class to be far stronger then a single class from early on straight into end game. While alternatively dual classing without specializing is actually counter productive. Let me give a few examples. Say you wan't a crusader which is a fighter paladin, a tank that can heal itself, should be strong right. It is, but this advantage is heightened by choosing the unbroken, and shieldbearer specialization. You get plus armor, plus engagement, plus lay on hands prevents death.
I bought the game today. I can't see why i should play a Multiclass char because i can't have the access to the Level VIII & XI spells. Probably it makes sense if the class has un-needed "high level" spells like lets say Druids in PoE1 where all you needed for your AOE-Storm-Druid was Returning & Relentless Storm. PoE1 spells highest LEVEL was LEVEL VIII (all LEVEL VII where WM1 DLC & all LEVEL VIII where WM2 DLC). With PoE2 they added one more LEVEL (LEVEL IX).
In a normal playthrough you might not even reached the 8th and 9th level before the game ends or for them to be useful at the end. Multiclassing has its benefits and downsides but I think multiclassing will be more fun and give you more options to beat the harder battles. The first games single class had the problem of either go all in on the stats required to be useful or be gimped in all areas. The party of 6 helped to offset that but with now a party of 5, multiclassing will give you many more options and replay value will be greater than the first game.
Good arguments. I agree. But i know most of the spells/skills from PoE1. So i rather slow myself down to see those new skills & experience them on LEVEL VIII & LEVEL IX then do a Multiclass with low level spells i allready know.
You start at level 1 and end at 20. If you multi-class you gain a power level "every third levels" so that's 6 power levels at the max character level right? But at what point do you get the first power level? Level 3 or level 2? In the later case you'd get 1 more power level overall.
I'm torn between beckoner/paladin for swarms of expendable summons + support abilities or beckoner/ranger for expendable summons + a strong permanent pet.
I liked pallegina as a character just fine but in PoE 1 her stats were all messed up, I'm doing a PotD playthrough right from the get go so I'll be passing on her. I also really want to play a beckoner for maximum summons. summon 6 skeletons that break into 2 smaller skeletons when they die? yes please heh.
yeah but they are half as powerful and last half as long... so in general beckoner summons are weaker than their normal versions... even if simply due to the fact that they last a very short amount of time... I just cant wait until i get to summon a dragon on my chanter (one of the tier 9 power abilities is to summon a full grown dragon)... the max you could summon in the first game was a drake... never a full on adult dragon... so that will be very interesting to see...
Arcanum Elite they last half as long but you're getting almost double firepower, more things for enemies to target, and you can just summon again once they disappear. Beckoner is so godly right now
I want to play some type of pirate character. I need help building one. I want ranged like pistol, like a pirate would have. He would need to have bluff i think, and be sneaky. What do you think of a rogue/fighter or something like that? Or Rogue wiz. HELPPP I HAVE RESTARTED SO MANY TIMES LOL.
Rogue/Wizard is what I want to play as, but mostly for role playing purposes. I was a Rogue from the Deadfire Archipelago in the last game. Does the game have like a story mode or something where you can have shitty builds but enemies still be weak enough to progress?
Lord Daisah yes there is and trust me it's REALLY easy would not recommend it get normal at least I'm playing in hard and I find it pretty normal in term of difficulty maybe becaused I played the first one
Pick Black Jacket as your Fighter subclass - gives you an extra weapon set, proficiency, and reduces recovery time between switching sets. Spec it right and you can start fights rapidly firing 8 guns! Maybe combine it with a ranger for the relevant skills? Or Cipher because you'll be generating a lot of focus? Hope that helps!
We took the other one down as it was out of date with some of the changes made during the beta, and this is the updated version. It is mostly the same.

Thanks for the written article. Don't always have time to youtube
I loved this video. It told me everything I wanted to ask without ruining the ability to theorycraft my own character
The most fun multiclass I've ever played might be Helwalker-Bleak Walker Votary. The damage output, accuracy, and defense are just insane.
I don't really like being a dick, tho. So I sometimes go with Kind Wayfarer. Less damage output, but also has healing which is not bad.
Thanks! I have played PoE I and Baldur's Gate but I never used a multiclass, but now feel interested to do so.
watching this in 2024 and i must say this era of fextralife is better 6 years ago 100%
Videos are coming out faster than I can watch haha. Game looks interesting though, still debating whether to get this one or Divinity Original Sin 2
Procrastination TV you should go both! You won't regret it. And Fextra has some awesome suggestion build classes too
Both are must plays if you enjoy the genre!

Honestly both are excellent. PoE is dialogue heavy and has a very grim atmosphere whereas D:OS 2 is more goofy and is more sandbox.
Thank you everyone for all your insights. I've given it some more thought and unfortunately I can't get through both anytime soon with work and all. I think I'll start out with DOS 2 and eventuallyI'll go to POE 2. Thanks again guys!
You should do a proper Multiclassing guide, going through the different combinations and extrapolating on the ways they can be built.
It would be several Guides and that would be an insane amount of work xD
Everything worth doing is an insane amount of work ^^

Rogue + Cipher = Mindhunter. Seems op.
I did cipher + monk. It's deadly.
I love how balanced they made this system.

you get to access to power level 7 in both trees if you multiclass.
I don't understand - do they level up simultaneously or not? For instance: a level 10 character will be 10Wiz/10Bar ?

so... there's this skill called street fighter, then there's the flash kick.... and lot of fireballs.
love fighting games, i'm in!

I found a strong multi-class setup: Rouge (Assassin) + Paladin (Holy Slayer) => The Paladin spells buff the Rogue so he hits like a truck from stealth
Holy Assassin :)
please post here what else you come up with
Hey do you have a breakdown of the guide 1 to max I’m new and curious lol

First power level increase is at level 4.
I'm torn between beckoner/paladin for swarms of expendable summons + support abilities or beckoner/ranger for expendable summons + a strong permanent pet.
Jasta85 im thinking of paladin chanter as a dps/support front liner hybrid
I discarded such Player character for sole reason that pallegina seems capable of doing this by herself :)
I liked pallegina as a character just fine but in PoE 1 her stats were all messed up, I'm doing a PotD playthrough right from the get go so I'll be passing on her. What is the ending music?
PLEASE NEED HELP!! best multi class whit helwalker? (monk)
Tl2aV but what subclass?
I want to play some type of pirate character. I need help building one. I want ranged like pistol, like a pirate would have. He would need to have bluff i think, and be sneaky. What do you think of a rogue/fighter or something like that? Or Rogue wiz. HELPPP I HAVE RESTARTED SO MANY TIMES LOL.

Ik this is a old comment but didn’t you think of Swashbuckler that’s literally what a pirate is🤦♂️
2 druid/priests 2 fighter/paladins and and wizard. Game over.
Assassin/Barbarian ftw
Is this video recycled from months ago?
We took the other one down as it was out of date with some of the changes made during the beta, and this is the updated version. It is mostly the same.
How can 7 minutes of video be a "definitive guide"???
Insert quippy comeback here.
