the whole speech ready to go from Mikolas lmfao. the funniest part of the whole thing is he would've stayed in if he just did it once but since he missed he couldn't accept that lmao
like he said its slippery LOL
That's unacceptable!
100% what I said lmao I was telling my buddy if he had hit him with the first he would’ve gotten a warning at best
@@Kingofthepirates-si1gd He'd still be gone. Umpires have been ordered to have a zero tolerance this season with HBPs. If they think you did it on purpose, which they would since it's the first pitch after the guy injured your catcher, you're gone. No warnings, just gone.
Dog ate his homework ! 😂
Mikolas did NOT read the room lmao

Twice. He did it twice.
@@jasondyrkacz8270that’s unacceptable! 😂
@@f430ferrari5 What's unacceptable is pitchers throwing at batters' heads. In this case, the pitcher doinked the hitter with a fairly slow looking pitch off his behind, the cushiest part of a person's body.
@@crucisnh you’re right. That’s “unacceptable”!!! Did you watch the vid? 😂
@@crucisnh 94 mph is not slow. And the first pitch WAS at his head, he just missed.

Dog ate my homework was golden! Capped off his rant perfectly!
I know! And not one “horseshit.” Guy can’t even get a rant right.
The ump should have said "you keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
lemongrab moment lol
Now just imagine Mikolas doesnt clown around and actually gets Happ out. Inning ends and maybe the Cards dont get whooped. The whole circus on display
Cmon, the cards were going to lose anyway.
... and what kind of punishment is that HBP anyway? Literally it was a freebie to Happ. No one cares about getting beaned in the backside. You get more dinged up sliding into 2nd.
Mikolas didn't last an inning and still took the L. how perfect was that
Yeah, as a Cards fan this was embarrassing. This was clearly an accident; throwing at a dude, giving him a base, and then complaining about being properly ejected is not a good look.
Unacceptable

As a lifelong Cardinals fan, this was an absolutely pathetic display. This whole season has been an embarrassment.
"An Absolutely Pathetic Display" is the title of my autobiography. What a coincidence.
Agreed. Felt a lot of shame as an stl fan that day
oooooo self burn! Those are rare
Brad's commentary was even more embarrassing
As a lifelong Cubs fan, all the respect in the world to you for saying that. Long time fans of any team know that this whole situation was ridiculous, and a ton of respect to Happ and Willy for how they handled it all. I was a bit surprised Mikolas got tossed at first, but when I thought about it for a minute, it was the correct application of the rule. If you wanna hit a guy, gotta make sure you don’t miss.
Note to pitchers: When you're obviously throwing at the batter in retaliation, 1. Get it right first time, 2. Don't throw a hissy fit when you're caught bang to rights.
The only thing more pathetic than the deliberate hit is the playing dumb about it.
As a Cardinals fan, agreed. He missed the first time, and then plays dumb rather than owning up to it. What a loser, especially after Contreras had clearly forgiven the guy.
3. Don’t “retaliate” for a clear accident
Of course it was on purpose: some of the slowest pitches I've ever seen.
@@davidarnold7147
The angle makes it seem slower. If you look at the stats on the screen, both pitches were 94mph. I wouldn’t call that taking it easy on anybody.
@@jeffmansfield914 Yeah, I didn't see that. I did see Happ brushing it off like it was nothing, and they appeared slow to me.
I get mikolas wanting his guys back but they literally former teammates and hugged after the play 😂😂
Hey pitchers, if you really want to have your team's back you should just strikeout the hitters that you don't like instead of giving them first base.
but how will they get to show they're tough boys?
@maxthomas8454 bad take
True. But sometimes you don’t do things for the logical reason. Look who we voted in as President.
I mean he literally did make him swing and miss
😂😂😂😅😅
Cardinals announcers were so salty after Mikolas got ejected, saying stuff like "Cubs and umps 3, Cardinals 0." Completely ridiculous, that's an easy and correct ejection.

Annoying ass Cardinals announcers were shocked that he got tossed. Apparently you can’t keep throwing at a batter till you eventually hit him 🙄
They complained about it for like 20 minutes too.
THIS. I was shocked at the announcers, they were dead wrong.
Cause happ is notorious for hitting catchers with his backswing and he’s done it to Contreras before and never attempted to fix it

When the guy that was hit with a bat and bleeding from his head, walks up to the man that did it and gives him a hug to acknowledge it was an accident, that should've been the end of it.
Why, why throw at the batter? That was a low-IQ play!
dude thought he was the main character.
Given how the manager reacted too, the whole team probably stinks of that brozo mentality. Shoulda been more pissed at what his pitcher just pulled rather than worry about what the other team was yelling.
it's just simply being classless
Imagine being the catcher and dealing with teammates who defended you by losing that hard.
Because it’s the Cardinal way 🤢
The funniest part about this is Happ scoring a run. He hurts them on accident, they hurt him on purpose and he ends up scoring the winning run 😂
Yeah, the Cubs may have won the game big. But at the end of the day, Mikolas got to feel really tough and manly and that matters more than _everything_ in baseball.
Especially that the Cubs were too afraid to come at him when he's provocating them 😌
i thought never making the first or third out at third mattered more in baseball

Yeah - for us its been a shitter.
I could even understand the single inside brushback "be careful" pitch, but the second one where Happ got hit was too blatant to keep Mikolas in the game.

Watch new catchers eyes when he visits mound. Like "oh crap".
Tell me you haven’t watched any baseball in 2023 without telling you haven’t watched any.
Mikolas was wrong in every aspect here, like he didn't even know his catcher well enough to know that Happ played with him for 6 years and there would be no way it was intentional. Feels like Mikolas saw this and was like "finally an opportunity to hit someone with a pitch".
He didn't care if it was intentional or not, didn't care they were friends. He likes the violence and anger. That's what gets him off, any excuse for it he's going to take. Basically a psychopath

The worst part about baseball is how when people get a little disrespected they have the ability to just throw a 95 mph projectile at someone.

best part
No, the true worst part is that this is considered status quo. "You hit my guy by accident, so by the unspoken rules of the game, I literally have to hit you or else I won't be part of the cool kids club anymore."
If it was an intentional hit on the catcher, I would kinda get it, but doing it just because it is considered obligatory is idiotic.
Make things fair by allowing the batter to occasionally let go of the bat during a swing.
@1:21 ❤The wide eyes of new pitcher like a little kid getting told by big bro. he's about to cuss out the teacher 😂
The "unwritten rules" are the worst thing about baseball.
im not american and new to baseball. in this case are you referring to be let go for deliberately hitting batter with pitch as retaliation if they hurt your team. Ive seen that happen many times on Jomboy
Tatis hitting that homer a few years back was the biggest thumb in the eye against the unwritten rules. I loved it more than the actual HR
@@Demon8593 There are some other ones as well but yeah that's one of em. Often the punishment for breaking one of these unwritten rules is one of your guys gets plunked

What’s weird is how the pitcher is more aggrieved by the accident then Contreras was. I mean they hugged it out already. It’s one of those silly unwritten and also unintelligible baseball rules.
This is easily the most deserved ejection of the year!
2:08 that is the least convincing "absolutely not" I have ever seen. couldnt stop laughing.
I wanted to hear a breakdown of the announcer saying he should’ve been hit and that’s the right thing to do. Then losing his mind when the pitcher gets tossed.
Ok so its a ton of respect and humbleness between the hitter and the catcher followed by a total circus by everyone else 😅
Some of the best dialogue in any video ever done by jomboy! This was a comedy routine yall!
One of the best breakdown ive watched in a while
Im generally fine w the immediate retalaition old school baseball but happ and contreras hugged it out and there were no issues. Mikolas missed on the 1st one and it should have been over and done with.
I love how Mikolas was being respectful & clean with his retorts: "unacceptable! Garbage!" all the way to the end until he just went on a barrage of F-bombs. Hilarious!!!
Man, that ending hug by those 2 guys was awesome
Craziest thing is I saw cardinal fans on twitter blaming the umps for their loss after the game lol
The “don’t tell me what to do” is hilarious 😂😂😂
"a beautiful moment in baseball, that's what it's al..." I burst out laughing when he said this after what he just read from their lips lmaoooooooo
Its not a back swing...its a follow through.
It wasnt intentionally tho. I highly doubt it
I love how Happ acts like "he doesn't throw hard enough to even bother me." Disrespecting the velo.
Mustache guy is giving huge cop vibes. Especially with the insane excuses after deliberately hitting a guy.
You know Happ watching this breakdown from home with a smile on his face 😂
One of the only times im on the umps side. Especially after the coach said "keep them over there!" As if HIS team wasnt causing 100% of the problems
Is it just me or is this whole backswing hitting catchers thing really way more prevalent lately? What's changed to cause it?
Catchers are crowding the plate more often.
Lol I love how the first two replies are totally conflicting
The size and location of batters boxes haven't changed in like 100 years. It's not possible for batters to be crowding any closer than they have been.
Opening the hips up for power and launch angle, longer follow-through.
Analytics says set up closer to steal strikes
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the announcers on the cardinals broadcast. It was probably the most biased commentary I’ve ever heard.
After the first pitch inside, they were like “well of course you gotta hit him” but then when the second pitch hit him, they changed to “how can you eject him for that? There was no intent!”
Why wouldn’t they be biased? They’re working for the Cardinals not the Cubs lol
In other news - home team broadcast favors home team. More at 11.
@@jacklaunius1238believe it or not there are some crews that actually manage to root for their team and see reality for what it is at the same time. They are far more entertaining.
Obviously there’s hometown bias but what I mean is they just were not seeing things rationally. They acted like the long swing was intentional as if Happ and Contreras weren’t teammates just a year ago.
@@kftc1980 reality is no they don’t, you just like your home team announcing more. What is completely understandable… But take off your teams glasses and actually listen.
Pathetic. No batter would intentionally do that no matter how much hatred existed between players/teams. And Happ and Contreras clearly don't hate each other after being teammates and hugging it out. Mikolas trying to hit him twice and then acting innocent is just embarrassing.
When keeping it real goes wrong. Clown behavior for an obvious accident that put your team in a shit position
I feel like there needs to be something done to prevent catchers from getting smashed in the head with bats. I don't remember this ever happening when I was younger, but seems to be way more frequent now.
I got an idea, if the batter is, presumably in the batter box, the catcher should be back enough, like maybe a designated spot, somewhere he can't possibly be hit by a back swing
@@kennethpierson82 Or a simpler solution, the batter keeps both hands at the bat, this one handed followthrough is the most unnecessary nonsense that they have ever started in baseball.
@@thomasstreich6564 if this is bait it's legendary lmao
This feels like something else ABS challenges or outright robo zones could eliminate. If the pitch is going to be called right automatically, there's no need for catchers to feel pressured to crowd in further to try and deceive the ump/steal strikes.
When you see a man unironically rockin the 70's "adult entertainment" stash you know you're in for some shenanigans.
That mustache, that attitude, the socks. That pitcher is my new favorite player.
I love how Jomboy Media is a multimillion dollar company now, but Jimmy still doesn’t use “your” and “you’re” properly all the time. Please don’t ever change. Love your content.
I'm a goalie in hockey and don't get why more backcatchers don't use the hockey style mask. Like he wouldn't have gotten hurt there if he had the hockey style mask on. It would have bounced off the mask and made his ears ring but he would be fine
!00% - and there's solid proof now: If Yadi Molina does it, everyone should. Anyone who has some excuse that it affects their view or doesn't feel right should look at Yadi being the best catcher in a generation with his hockey mask and _strongly_ reconsider their stance.
common hockey W
@@jakestine4753 Many catchers believe Hockey style masks increase the risk of concussion and don't have enough padding on the forehead. I don't know if its true or a myth but that's why a lot of catchers don't wear them. Saying "look at Yadi" isn't going to change their minds.
I’m not familiar with how it feels to wear a hockey mask but do they perform well in the heat? Very different being on ice vs being outside in August.
@@louiscypher4186 They are actually better for hits to the forehead as well. Look at the new style All-star hockey style helmets. They are a far superior design to any mask and skull cap.
Never seen a more deserved ejection. Would’ve been alright if he got him with the first pitch, but leave it there. Going back in was unnecessary
Pitchers are such babies god damn how do you see two men hug out a non issue and then act like an attention seeking kid anyway 😂😂
That father son moment at the end was so wholesome, thats what you like to see in baseball!
(and the cardinals losing)
I love the way players will repeat the same thing several hundred times. Totally acceptable 🙌
This is another problem that can be alleviated by the automated strike zone. Catchers wouldn't need to creep up because of the umpire.
Shouldn't hitting someone with a hard object at 94 mph get you charged with assault? That's bullshit.
Did Mikolas not realize it was painfully obvious how intentional it was after he missed the first one and then Knizner doesn't even call a pitch for the next pitch since he obviously knew Mikolas said he was gonna hit him.
This is exactly the BS the game needs less of. How do you "get back" for an accident, esp. one everyone clearly knew was an accident? Baseball's unwritten rules are f'n ridiculous. Just play the game, and cop to it when it's that obvious. Don't lie. It's karma that it ended up winning the game for the Cubs, even more so given their long and bitter rivalry.
Beautiful moment with the dad in the end❤
Not enough that they are in last place. Now they have to embarrass themselves.
I have to keep coming back to watch this.
The batter and catcher literally hugged it out, there's no beef lmao
Been waiting for this one since I saw it live!
'How do you toss me'.... with my right hand making a throwing gesture
Reminds me of the movie dodgeball where Ben stiller hits the girl as she’s walking to the sideline and he says “ I’m sweating like a grease monkey out here I can’t hold onto a ball “ 😂
Holy shit, the pitcher went with the White Goodman excuse? “I’m sweating I can’t hold onto a ball out here!”
I was thinking I just saw this guy do this exact same thing a couple weeks ago. Searched it and realized this is indeed a breakdown of that same game. Otherwise, I thought, "Dude. This guy is the Marty McSorley of baseball!"
Saw this live but the breakdown is awesome. Laughing my ass off at the lipreading.
“It’s hot outside. My hands are slippery. That’s not acceptable.” - Pfft! Get offa the field!
Cardinals are clueless. Wilson was a cubs staple and obviously didn’t leave his teammates on bad terms (say what you will about fans). Cardinals doin to much
Jom huge missed opportunity with not putting your face over the dad's at the end. I was waiting for it too!
This was completely ridiculous. Happ didn't hit Contraras on purpose, Contraras knew it(based on the fact that they hugged after it happened) and Mr. Mikolas decided to drill Happ anyway.
Someone once said that baseball is the most petty sport there ever was. Correct.
If i were mikolas i would've waited for his next AB. at least that would've given him a better chance to not get thrown out and he gets to stay in longer.
Or you know just not hit him at all
d'Arnaud got hit the other night much in the same way and was bleeding too. He said the PitchCom cut him.
Rumor has it, Mikolas is still saying, "that is unacceptable."
The umps handled this poorly. After the brush back, you have to give him a warning. Then if Mikolas hits him, you can toss him.

Mikolas said “we’re sweating like grease monkeys out here” like he owns Globo Gym
My thing is this, there’s only like 3 dudes in the league that do this on a regular basis and we all know which guys do it cause they do it so much, happ is known for hitting catchers with his back swing, u shouldn’t be allowed to just swing as far back as u want and consistently hit catchers, if everybody was doing it it’s one thing but it’s a couple guys that do it, if u can’t control ur swing to the point ur making catchers bleed, u should be getting hit, props to mikolas
His excuses remind me of White Goodman “We’re sweating like grease monkeys out here I can’t hang on to the ball” 😂

What is your opinion about the HBP of Amaya in the 9th inning of this game Jomboy???? It was also a deliberate pitch in a game they were losing and an obvious 3rd retaliatory pitch as well. The backup catcher comes up in the 9th inning as a pinch hitter and the first pitch goes to his hip as well.
