      You can't get them anymore from ford. They're discontinued. So what I did was get a fuel pressure gauge with a return line on it and run it in line with the Fuel hose to the Carb and on the return line I used a 5/16 fuel hose and drilled a .060 thousands hole in a 1/8 NPT plug and push it down inside the return hose to the tank about 4 inches down inside the hose and then hooked up the return hose to the fuel pressure gauge and it works perfect. No more stupid Factory idiocy.

      Yo Slick ford was over thinking in the 80’s. If you can wrap your fuel line with something to insulate it (heater hose, hot water tank foam line insulation...). Motor homes were especially prone to vapor lock. The regulator does the same thing as the vapor separator ( if you include the return line) except you can adjust it. Good luck

      @@WestHanoverTruckin my truck never ran right, eventually sold sold it and the next owner contacted me a few times with questions as to why might not be running the way it should. I would've never bought that Ford if I had looked at all of the forum discussions. With fuel system and wiring harness issues. I feel for ya. if I had any more fuel issues I was going to ditch the whole system and get LMC trucks single large fuel tank and pump. Mechanical pumps have been in use for decades. Ford was trying to reinvent and complicate the wheel.

      @zmurray9499 I appreciate the replay. Yeah, this thing has been a royal pain. I bought it for my wife. She still hasn't even got to drive on the street. Just keeps plugging fuel filters.The fuel system has been a nightmare for sure. It didn't even have a return or that hot start. I ll let you know if it's fix after I try in the morning. . Replace a lot of the fuel lines new carburetor new plugs and wired new distributor. Only has 48,000 miles but sat for years. Previous owner left out alot of fine details. But hey I'm learning just used to working on Hondas and Toyota. These things suck. Have two other bullnoses as well, but they are 86 302 efi 2wd trucks.

      kinda funny, I ran across a ton of non-running 80s Ford trucks. Didn't think too much of it at the time but after owning one🤔🤦‍♂️ totally understand. I own an 84 square body now, wiper switch is the biggest issue with those. A pain to replace, steering column needs to be torn down to get to it. But at least you know the issue and how to fix it.

    I’ve been trying to figure a way around that dang thing! My e350 motorhome will idle all day long but when I drive it about a mile it dies as if it runs out of gas it starts right back up after letting the pump run and doesn’t go over 50 same thing feels like it’s running out of gas.

  • @richardwilliam3757

    Do you have any restriction on the return hose to the tank?Does as much gas go back to the tank as goes up to the Mr. gasket regulator

    • @zmurray9499
      @zmurray9499  4 года назад

      No it’s essential just a T. The hot start canister is the same principle but it has no adjustment. The flow should push through the regulator and anything extra goes back to the tank. Take care

      Also if I want to test to make sure I’m getting 6 to 7 pounds at that vapor separator that’s now installed can I put a fuel pressure gauge out the top of the separator?
      Both fuel tanks operate the same so it doesn’t matter which one you’re on I’m getting fuel starvation at the Holley.

    • @zmurray9499
      @zmurray9499  4 года назад

      @@richardwilliam3757 put the gauge between the canister and the carb(close to the carb). Then you will know if your getting enough fuel to the carb. The gauge doesn’t do you any good while driving, under load. Let me preface that I am not a mechanic. I would ditch the canister and put a regulator on. I have also read that people don’t use a regulator or return line with no problems. I did a lot of research on the fuel systems of these trucks. People are pulling their hair out trying to get their trucks to run. If you could get some proper fittings and rubber line to bypass the canister just to see if that’s the problem.

    I just got an 87 with a boom on it. Had to tow it home, I’ve found an in tank fuel pump in the rear tank (which is dry), and a mess of wiring that doesn’t have power yet. I’ll get to that next. Does that sound like yours? I haven’t a clue what it should look like, have the generator to deal with also. Guess I don’t really know what to ask other than is the pump normal because I’m having problems finding the right three pin plug. Sorry I’ve been under it for two days, any help?

    • @zmurray9499
      @zmurray9499  3 года назад +1

      I believe in 87 they switched to fuel injection halfway through the year. Carbureted or fuel injected it will have an in the tank fuel pump. I don’t think wiring etc is similar to the 85. People have had major wiring headaches with the 84-6. You should be able to get a pump wiring harness from Napa or maybe LMC truck. I know nothing about the 87 and newer fords. Sorry, good luck
