Thanks to your video that I just found for years after you made it, I realize that my Toyota Corolla does not have a belt tensioner pulley. What I’m looking at is the water pump pulley. I recently replaced my serpentine belt in the pulley on the water pump looks a little bit damaged so I was thinking of replacing it but thanks to you now I know that that is a water pump pulley and I believe that it cannot be replaced unless I replaced a pulley thank you very much.
Great instructions. I replaced my water pump in my 2009 Toyota Corolla today.
I noticed that I had very poor gas mileage & had my car diagnosed by a mechanic. After thorough inspection, he told me that the reason for loss of mileage is that the water pump needs to be replaced & quoted cost of replacement at $500+. I went to an autozone store, bought the parts & coolant & was able to replace the water pump myself for under $100. All thanks to this video. I just hope now that my gas economy improves as a result. I filled my tank & now have to wait to see.

Thank you Sir, jacked it up and it was a piece of cake. Only problem it squeaked like hell. I went back to the video to see how to tighten the alternator bolts in the correct order and it worked. But I marked where the adjuster should land and it worked perfect. The belt was to loose.

Thanks for the video Ron It saved me alot of money doing this myself. Dealership gave me an estimate for about 700 dollars. Cost me 118 dollars for the pump and belt, 12 dollars for coolant, and 22 dollars for a torque wrench. Much appreciated sir.

I’m doing the same type of repair 09 Corolla the two long bolts did have silicone the three smaller ones did not silicone the two long bolts look like they go into the block but I’m only a RUclips mechanic thank you for this video helped me out tremendously

Video helped me replace my water pump.on my 2009 matrix, same.engine in the video. paid $66 for water pump and belt from rockAuto and $26 for 2 gallons of.collant from Walmart. I didnt use a torque wrench instead I used a wrench with.a super short handle which allowed me to feel when it was tightened fully. I don't trust my torque wrench.

Since I will be replacing Water Pump first time in my life, I would like to see the working area, but the space is so tight that half of the job you performed half blind.
I am thinking to take off passenger's tire and under fender plastic covering. It might give me better access from underneath. What would you advise in this matter.

Thanks for the vid! I would highly recommend: Changing the belt...drain/fill the coolant...buy an OEM water pump...mark the bolt positions..yikes!

If it helps anyone, when you’re removing the bolts from the old pump, place them on the new water pump to know where each bolt size belong to which hole

What I usually do when I need to drain the coolant is rather than use the drain plug on the radiator is I pull the lower hose from the radiator and let it fall into a pan. In some newer models, the radiators don't even have drain plugs and are specifically designed to be drained that way.

Don't forget to mention that, if you disconnect the neg terminal of the battery, be sure you have access to the restoration code for the radio / stereo head unit.

Most likely it is the belt tension that makes the noise. Have your friend tighten the belt properly.

Tight bolts in the order he showed. Mine did the same thing. Pull the alternator back far as you can. Screw the adjustment screw in until it's tight. Then tighten bottom alternator screw

Before undoing the Alternator measure the threads on the bolt, when you put it back you can use your measurement to get it pretty close to perfect quickly.
No need to measure. Just before unbolting. Use a sharpie. Mark the thread and bolt of its location. You can double check the mark by marking the right side bracket that meets the metal rail. After that, when you reinstall, have the bracket slide up and line up to the old marks you made.

if you spend another 15 minutes remove alternator out then you can do much easier ,that is what I do-it took me 30 minutes complete the job,instead 2 hours.
how about if you get off all the bolts and the pump is still “””glued””” “down” to the engine

2009 toyota corolla, that is crazzzzy, I have a 1998 toyota corolla with 221k milles. Original water pump, no noise and no leaks. Parts now days are a joke. No quality behind.
Cesar Orozco my 2010 Corolla has 222k miles. Just 1k over yours and I started getting this noise. I mean... 222k is pretty damn good without any problems until now, imo.
Mine 202k there is a noise no sure it is water pump..no liking..😁

Go directly to the 18 minute mark and see orange rad fluid coming out. NEVER Put dex cool in a toyota. "or any car" This is why the pump went bad. The Canadian owners manual also says, Burning a quart of oil every 600 miles is normal. When buying a Toyota, pull the rad cap. If fluid is not pink, without a strange essence of orange. (some one added some orange) do not buy it.

In the end you say the fan belt is squealing and needs to be tightened more. This car has electric fans. You mean the serpentine or drive belt needs to be tightened more.

Yes, it would be. Just 2 bolts. You may need to take the bracket off too, just 1 more bolt.

It doesn’t operate the fan. It has very little to deal with the fan. The fans are electric so nah. It’s not the same thing at all

I've got a 2009 vibe I changed my coolant. My manual said to use gm dexcool which is more orange but the stuff I drained was the pink stuff like in your video. I put in orange dexcol but now I'm worried that i should have used Toyota pink because it is a corolla engine in all the vibes. Could this shorten the life of my water pump?
You need to get that DexCool out of that engine. The owners manual is wrong on this car. Get yourself 2 gallons of Toyota Super Long Life 50/50 and do a complete purge. or take it to a Toyota dealer and have them do it.
Get that Dex-cool/Dexkill flushed out of your engine asap. And make sure it's completely out before refilling it with Toyota Super Long Life Coolant (Pink Stuff) because Dexcool has been known to gel up when mixed with different types blocking up the passage ways in the engine. I have a 2010 vibe too and had a guy at autozone tell me that "GM" car requires Dexron VI transmission fluid when it's a Toyota transmission and says use Toyota WS fluid. Luckily I ignored him. Better off ignoring the Vibe GM owners manual and pick up a Matrix owners manual to get more accurate info on Fluid recommendations.
