    I really enjoyed this grand video of the Isle of Man Steam railway, l remember being over on the lsle of Man & stayed with a farmer & he took me right round the lsle of Man & l enjoyed that, but don't remember the steam railway, l would love to come over & stay for a week on the lsland , l did think the lsle of Man was a great place to stay, & the same person & l climbed to the top of Snaefell and I enjoyed my stay on the lsle of Man. (Maybe one day l will go back and stay on the lsland for a holiday.)

    And this is why I love the UK's historical preservation and Heritage Railways there's more of them that run, unlike America that hardly has any I tell you I think we have more stuff rotting than we do running as far as historical preservation & Heritage in general is concerned

    Wonderful. Wish you would show the inside of the old style carriages. Reminds me of the Enid Blyton mystery series and 'hols' that I read in my childhood. In India we do have a few preserved railways like this including the British made Fairy Queen locomotive from the 1850s.

    I remember a train stopping to allow air passengers to alight, climb over the fence with their luggage and stumble across grass over to the airport terminal. Still have wonderful memories of the west coast line above the cliffs south from Ramsey. From the carriage the frightened sheep appeared to be jumping over into the sea below.

    Acá en Latinoamérica todo lo hechan a perder...en Chile pequeño museo ferrocarril en Temuco, zona sur...apenas 2 locomotoras que rara vez sale a algún turismo...lástima que FF.EE. fueron muy descuidados y la gente también que no cuida patrimonios

    Did u have lineside access on the steam railway or are all your locations accessible from roads and paths

    • @preservedrailway
      @preservedrailway  6 лет назад +2

      The mixed train is from a morning photo charter so lineside/private fields, etc., other locations are either public footpaths/road, etc.

    • @inkyscrolls5193
      @inkyscrolls5193 5 лет назад

      No; the railways are entirely separate from those on the British mainland or Ireland.

    What are the gauges of the railways shown?

    • @SteamLance
      @SteamLance 3 года назад

      Steam railway, Horse drawn and Manx Electric Railway are 3ft gauge. Snaefell Mountain is 3ft 6" gauge, Laxey mine railway is 19" gauge and Groudle Glen is 2ft (actually 1ft 11 1/2")

    What's that closed wagon hauled by Tram no. 21 carrying?

    • @CJ-zt5mr
      @CJ-zt5mr 6 лет назад +3

      Beer barrels because our roads are narrow and we don't really have hgvs the easy way to get them to the pubs in
      Laxey and Ramsey is by tram

      @@CJ-zt5mr Wow, i did not know that. but then again i do have a question. do these railways work together at time to time? Like the 2-4-0's haul big lines of closed wagons when the trams are too busy, horses taking the mountain trains and/or helping the closed wagons, and the tiny diesel take the trams that are broken down and use them as wagons before they get repaired.

    • @CJ-zt5mr
      @CJ-zt5mr 5 лет назад

      @@johnpaulfraley2014 The horse trams don't take any cargo only the electric trams do we only have 1 diesel train and that only runs when the stream trans are in for a service but then if they are the bus that runs all day takes most if not all of the train passengers and the tram only starts a Douglas up to Ramsey the north of the island the train starts in the south of the island and stops at Douglas

    It's amazing that such a small island has such riches in preserved railways. It's an incredible community asset well worth maintaining. The horse-drawn trains should be retired. I'm sorry but that is cruelty to animals and completely unnecessary. I loved the little green diesel at 32:30 and then when you zoomed back to show us the entire coastline. That was spectacular.

    I think Tom Rolt should have gone here instead of tallyn because then they wouldnt have had to butcher her in order to run on their network. I mean she looks nothing like she did before she left Ireland.

    British steam locomotives are better looking than the U.S. steam locomotives. And so are the diesel engines better looking than the U.S. diesels.
