- How to Replace GU10 Light Bulb. Change GU10 Light Bulb from GU10 Halogen to GU10 LED.
In this video I will be removing a GU10 Halogen Bulb and replacing with a GU10 LED Bulb, these GU10 Bulbs are 240 Volts.
LED GU10 Bulbs are way more efficient than the older Halogen GU10 Bulbs and don't get hot either. It's worth replacing your GU10 Halogen Bulbs with modern GU10 LED Bulbs to save money on your electricity bills. GU10 Bulb removal.
Never remove a Halogen bulb straight after the bulb has been ON as it will be red hot and can melt your skin!
Some of the GU10 bulbs have clips holding them in but these ones in the video are much simpler to remove and fit. No need to remove any housings. You can get small suction pads which grip onto the bulb lens so you can remove them, but I've never found them very useful.

So pleased I found this video! Couldn't figure out how to remove my blown bulbs, will now do so with confidence, thanks Lurgs!
Great news, glad it was useful. Merry Christmas. 🎄😎
YOU ARE A LIFESAVER. I done tore the whole hole when all I needed was to twist the bulb itself..
No problem. Glad that my video helped.😎
Thank you for this! Couldn’t get the new bulb in but after watching your video it took me about 20 seconds! Thank you:)
Glad to help 😎
Found other videos of a similar bulb saying to just pull them, I was losing my mind (and almost my fixture lol)! Thank god I found this in time
Indeed. They aren't the easiest things to remove, and of course the old halogen bulbs get red hot so that makes the plastic housing brittle. Use LED if you can. Glad I could help.😎
Thank you so much for teaching me how to Replace a GU 10 halogen bulb.
My pleasure. Glad it was useful.😎
For anyone struggling to release pull/release a GU10 from the fitting (can't turn or pull), try using a small suction cup like you might find on something that sticks to a wall. Press inward while turning anticlockwise (approx. 45°) to unlock, then use the suction cup to pull gently. I was struggling with mine for a while but this worked immediately for me.
Yeh the original LEDs used to come with a suction cup. Good idea.
Tried this still no luck. Just want to rip it out of the ceiling
@@kezza3290 Trouble is the Halogen bulbs get so hot and the fittings get brittle. It will come out.
@@LurgsHowToGuides I want to put a new one in but it won’t click into place
@@kezza3290 Don’t force it. It will go, there is a knack to lining it up, just keep trying and it will go in. Wiggle and wiggle till it finds the holes then twist to lock in. Good luck
This video has been a gift from the heavens! Thank you so much! 👍👍👍👍
Great stuff. Merry Christmas 🎄
Thanks man needed this!!
Glad to help. The LEDs are so much better than the boiling hot Halogen ones
Halogen bulbs are no words for the environment than LED bulbs
Great stuff, so useful, thank you
Great news. Have a fab weekend.😎👍
I almost damn yank out the whole wall. Lucky i found this video right on time 😂 thanks
Good news, yeh they are tricky! 😎
Very helpful thank you!
Cheers. Glad that I could help out.😎
Thank you !!! I used your video today , I managed after I tried in vain before seeing it :):) Hi frôm Paris !!
Great news, glad I could help and have a very Merry Christmas 🎄😎.
@@LurgsHowToGuides Thanks , Merry XMas for you too !
Push and anticlockwise 👍 that's what I need. Thanks.
Glad to help
tea n' tips is tops 👍😃
It certainly is. Merry Christmas. 🎄😎
2 GU10's out (of 4 on the same light strip). Can I replace the two dead bulbs with LED GU10s while the other 2 are standard GU10s? Or do they ALL need to be one or the other?
If it's a 240 volt system then in theory yes you can have standard Halogen and LED on the same strip. But why not just replace all 4 with modern LED one's, will save you money in the long run as they barely use any power compared to a red hot halogen bulb. You can get packets of GU10 quite cheap now. Have a great weekend and hope it goes ok. 😎
I found a suction cup on a stick, it works a treat
From B&M “ house proud 2 suction dish brushes” £1.99 for pack of qty 2, it’s a dish brush but has a small suction cup at the other end
Creates a strong suction on face of GU10, allows you to offer it up into place inside a small cover where you can’t get your fingers to hold the lamp
Push up and twist
It creates such a strong suction that I used the edge of a blunt knife to release it
I remember when I first bought a load of Halogen GU10 bulbs it came with a suction pad to actually remove them. Yes it is easier with one of those.
Don't you have to change the halogen rail to an led one. Also I have a standard uk dimmer switch to outjust the output of the halogen spotlights. Will this need changing too.
No because it's 240V so makes no difference. If you are using 12V then use you need some extra parts. Dimmer switch should be fine as long as you buy LED dimmer compatible bulbs.
@@LurgsHowToGuides
Must be something I'm doing wrong then. When I put an led bulb in, it cuts out instantly with a click and a flash and is then dead.
I think too much power going through for led bulbs so I need to change something in the set up.
@@tk4270 Just to check it is 240v bulb you are replacing? If it is then a normal 240v LED bulb should in theory be ok, could be your setup maybe where it’s sharing load across a network and it doesn’t like low power LED. Hope you can get it sorted. Good luck
Does anyone know how to remove the bezel which is the silver ring? I am attempting to replace the lamp socket in a GE Range Hood and it appears I have to remove the bezel to access the small screws which hold the old lamp socket in place.
There’s different types but ours are on spring clips, if you remove the bulb I think you can see the clips. If you just get a flat bladed item underneath the silver ring it may pop out, but be careful if it’s weak plasterboard
@@LurgsHowToGuides When all else fails call in the wife and she could see the clips you mentioned. We finally got them loose with a flat blade screwdriver as you suggested. This is a GE range hood and the whole design of these light fixtures is disappointing to say the least.
Thanks
Glad I could help.😎
nice seiko
Thanks. I get lots of comments on my watch, it’s pretty old now but is a nice watch
I would rather continue using halogen or any decent led bulbs because those ones that you used had a circle of leds that normally burn out quickly and flicker instead get one with a led cob instead, also some leds can be just as expensive as halogens
0:33 they aren’t dirty and they are also reliable
Sadly, I cannot for the life of me get the replacement bulb back in. Last time I buy any GU10 bulb light fixture, I', going to have to toss this fixture. But before I do I will tear it apart and figure out why the lamp won't fit--the new lamp is identical to the one that came out (destructively). MR16 or bust from now on!!
It does take a few wiggles, just keep trying.
Bear in mind there are different types of fitting, and different types of bulb. I watched 3 videos to find one that worked for me. Sometimes you press and rotate the bulb, sometimes you pull it. Sometimes you rotate the inner besel, sometimes you pull out the whole fitting.
It's misleading for each video to just say 'this is the way you do it'!
GU10’s should only be one type of fitting, there are other bulbs that look similar but aren’t GU10
I pushed my bulb in before twisting it and it got stuck inside
Hope you can get it out ok.
Lining up the holes, that's the problem right there. They're on the underside of the stove's roof, so I have to do it from under, so I don't have gravity on my side. Can't do it for the life of me.
Yes I agree it’s tricky but it will go, just keep trying
What a dirty light switch!
I know the theory of how to change it but the bl**dy thing won’t stay in place, I was hoping there was something like a rubber suction pad on a stick?
It’s not dirty the sheen has come off the chrome.
The light bulb should stay in place,
Maybe the plastic holder has snapped that you twist it into? They get very hot and brittle and can snap
GU10 Halogen bulbs should be discontinued. They are extremely hot and can burn when contacting the skin. Unfortunately our young granddaughter touched one with her arm and she had the burn mark for several weeks,
Yes the old Halogen ones melt skin. Upgrade them all to LED. Hope your Granddaughter was ok. Happy New Year.😎
Oh so they _are_ supposed to be able to drop out! I have two very similar fixtures in my apartment's guest bathroom and have been having a difficult time trying to get one of the burnt out bulbs out of the fixture (hence why I'm here).
Okay, so I just went back and had to pull the entire fixture out of the ceiling to get the bulb out. Why? Because whoever installed those bulbs before I moved in used some sort of wifi color change LED bulbs that are about 1/4 inch wider than the bezels, but instead of just pushing the bulb into the bezel and letting friction hold them in, they appear to have taken the fixtures down, put the bulbs in the ceiling then reinstalled the fixtures so that the bulbs were effectively trapped above the bezels! Who does that?!
Oh dear what a right pain! Deffo swap for LED now as they don’t get hot. The old Halogen bulbs get red hot and make the housing brittle and it can burn.
@@LurgsHowToGuides Yep, these were LED, but just the wrong size for the fixture. Ordered some correctly sized ones to swap them out, and thanks to this video, I now know the _proper_ way to put the new ones in, so cheers for that.
These goddamn piles of absolute shit are the worst bulb design I have ever encountered, why are they like this? I can't think of any actual real reason for them to be this completely impossible to change other than to make you break the item you're trying to replace the bulb in to force you to buy an entire new one.
Yes they are so fiddly to remove!
All I wanted to find out was how to change a bulb, not a lecture on my environmental responsibilities 😒
