Thank you so much for this excellent tutorial. I’ve watched it theee times just this afternoon and have learned to use my acrylics like I never realised was possible. Wishing you well from New Zealand 😊
The problem with these paints for me was that when I had tried to put subsequent layers on top especially thinner layers the underlying paint underneath would be re-activated and I would be left with mud ....I found this extremely frustrating!.... I do like the colours etc and the feel of them but it’s not that great for doing layers I found out later that the only way you can do layers is by sealing each layer with clear painting medium which is a bit of a pain in the arse and also another product which I don’t need to buy also I found out that if you use a stay wet palette they liquify! I now have a whole lot of these paints which I find annoying to use....
Atelier Interactive was created so that it can be reworked. Usually, if you find your layers reactivating, just use a hair dryer to "speed cure" the layers or put your painting aside as you do with oils Out latest mediums, which we call the Ladder Series (Thin, Middle and Thick), do not reactivate as much. Feel free to contact us atinfousa@chromaonlie.com for more personalized tips!
I find that when I try and blend an edge with water after it has dried I get a thin wash over the edge which is not a blend, and when I work it more it breaks right down and often the underlayer into which I am blending washes off. It does not blend layers nicely together as wet into wet does. Not much point really.
Hi Rich, have you tried the Unlocking Formula instead of water? It sounds like you could be working with thin layers as opposed to more painterly layers. There needs to be enough paint on both the under layer and the top layer for smooth blending. Please contact us at infousa@chromaonline.com with pictures of your work so we can see and better understand the problem, and our Resident Artist will try to help you!
I recently bought a few Atelier acrylics. I found that they were much dryer and thicker than my Daniel Smith and Golden acrylics. Is this normal, or did I get some that were older and therefore dryer than they normally would be? I could use some insight into this. So far, I have not liked the Atelier for that reason.... thanks.
+Adelaide-delvi Doyle You should find Atelier Interactive to be the same consistency as those products. Please email our resident artist, Jennifer, at jvonstein@chromaonline.com so she get some more info and can help you out!
