- Google's latest commercial shows how desperate they are for people to leave their phone and buy a Pixel 9 Pro when it comes out, but I think it's pretty silly and not very convincing.

I don't know about previous generations, but the trade-in values of the 7 when the 8 came out last year hit an all time low and this was the general consensus online.

I just love Google pixel phones I have been really happy with my pixel 8 pro and can't wait for the pixel 9 pro xl. that's why there's so many phone companies to choose from just get what makes you happy, for me Google is doing a great job with the pixels..
How's your 8 pro ? I'm switching from the iPhone 15 pro max to the 9 pro XL. Or should I get the 8 pro. Any heating or signal or call issues?

None of these reasons make me want to jump for a Pixel 9. Bring back a removable battery, expandable SD card slot and headphone jack and I'll come back.

Im getting the P9 Pro. Ive had the P 1,2,4, 4a 5g, 6,7, 8 .
The 6 was horrible.
7 and 8 both run warm sometimes.
I'm hoping the 9 fixes that and also modem is better.
Oh and the triple lens cameras Ive been wanting.
I'm outside US, my pixel 7 suddenly die , and no service center here, so I had to buy samsung a55 , and now I'm prefering ONE UI over stock android , this phone doesnt heat shooting videos like pixel

Ive waited two generations to upgrade to Pixel 8 from my pixel 6 pro and pixel 8 pro its amazing. Two generations apart seems to be the magic number.
If Google so desperately wants ME to buy their 9 series phone then they should have continued using the design form that they've had for the previous 3 models instead of making such an obvious copy of the iPhone bricks and that goofy looking camera bar slapped onto its back. Had they focused more on battery optimization and charging speeds, long distance camera quality, the ability to take a picture of the Moon without it looking like a blinding white dot, better cell signal, longer range Bluetooth connectivity then I might have considered it. However, they seem to be more concerned with what it looks like then how well it performs this year . Sorry Google you're not getting my money this time

Google lost me last year. Went through two replacements due to terrible battery life, weak modem, extremely slow processor and horrendous fingerprint flashlight scanner. Until they drop tensor, I’d recommend to stay away.

The main thing about Pixel phones is that they take good photos so there might be a slight improvement on the Pro 9, otherwise that's the only reason I'm getting it. If they can improve video quality that'll be a plus. The tensor chips are mediocre at best especially when you're paying flagship prices. Just wait a few months and you can get a good deal on the Pixel 9 with the prices drop.
Well it is a teaser for the event. I don’t expect them to start naming all the features of the phone and it’s not even out yet. I’m sure they are waiting for the actual event 2 weeks away
I will be coming off my P7 and this will be my first Pro version so I'm definitely looking forward to all the features some are already familiar with but will be fresh plus a new in hand build feel

What draws me towards Pixel phones: a well-rounded system that stays out of your way, long support, feature drops, great camera.
What makes me want a Pixel 9 Pro: smallish form-factor finally with tele zoom lens, hopefully better efficiency/battery life and less heat compared to previous generations.
But I think it's going to be too expensive to compete with others, and especially with the Pixel 8 line.
I hope my Pixel 6 Pro keeps working reliably for some more months so I can get a discounted/refurbished Pixel 9 Pro later this/next year. I don't want _the one_ killer feature, I just want the right combination of useful things and especially reliability.
My s23 ultra says.. I'm still better and I am 2 years old.
The S23 Ultra camera is still performing better overall than that of the S24 Ultra, which is still in need of remedial software work. Some 7 months after it was launched.
Google's decision to end unlimited storage for their phones was the primary reason many people chose to get a Pixel phone. I don't see any reason why someone should choose a Pixel phone right now.

Pixels aren’t perfect but they are pretty fun phones to have.
It’s not flagship specs, and the trade-in offers are horrendous. I have my 7 Pro, thinking about just going to iPhone 16 since they are now technically the same price.
Between buying the one plus open or Google's new fold. It all depends on what they show me in August.
So it was once said that a picture was worth a thousand words. But nowadays is like 2 million as things and people can be added or subtracted. The moral of the story is don't trust pictures taken with a pixel phone.😮
It seems this years releases are just gap fillers for next years releases (iPhone 17 with an under display face ID, Pixel 10 switching to TSMC)

You're so right, Adam. As someone who's only just upgraded from a Pixel 4a 5g to an 8 pro (bought at a massive discount, of course), I'm struggling to see what's so much better with the 9 pro? I mean, the 8 pro camera is great (apart from the enhanced zoom as you mentioned). Almost everything just works; I say almost, because as others have said, the fingerprint sensor is very much a "work in progress", unlike the old sensor on the rear of my old 4a 5g which never let me down.
Anyway, love your work, pal. Thanks for doing it.

I don't game so i didn't need a powerful chip at all
P9P, now that there will be a smaller version, my priorities would be: weight, battery life, 45 w fast charging. There are already plenty of features on these phones, more than Apollo 11 which landed on the moon. It would be nice if there was more reliability in phone calls, which after all is what a phone is supposed to do.
It's gonna have a 5050 battery...better than the 8. My phone lasts me 10+ hours while listening to podcasts and music while working (screentime only on breaks and lunch...so 2 hour screentime while at work) I have 45% by the time I get home...EXCELLENT battery on my regular 8, but I want the 9 pro for the even better battery.
We didn't land on the moon by the way.

Only thing I don't like about my Pixel 6 is it gets hot..
working outdoors isn't the best place for this phone.
I change phones once at 3 years so it WAS my nr 1 candidate... most all spec is dope and was for me number one phone to buy this year till I read about that Tensor G4... Man, no way is based on that samsung exynos sh*t. overheating, draining battery and half of performance SD 8 gen 3 ...and soon SD 8 gen.4 will have premiere and they say is about 50% more performance so that gap will be HUGE. BIG NO!
Are you using snapdragon at 100% of his power? I suppose no, and tensor g4 does overkill in necessities of using it which is cool
We need google assistant to understand Caribbean words or even save words ourselves so that google can remember and learn how we speak
I believe it is a smart move from Google to offer the PRO model in 2 sizes, as of now I'm a 7a user and as a result of that when a feature drop comes, my phone barely gets any of it. I would like to be able to have a high end phone but, I don't want to carry a rocket in my pocket 😅

I am using a Samsung S23 and I don't like the One UI at all. I feel that the Pixel UI is the best; it's smooth and feels faster. However, the only problem was the heating issue and couldn't d get my bank card on wallet, which made me return my Pixel 8. Despite this, I still miss that phone.
Desperate? Hum.. I am considering it because of the high specs , size ( 6.3) and Something different. I have used Samsung phones for years and Samsung is just getting boring with it's standard phones. Not at all ready for foldables.
I'm in shock! You came for Google but promoted Samsung and Samsung release the same z fold 3 years in a row! The features they promoted been out since the 24 ultra that took from the 8 pro!

I drive trucks but you really went on a rant for Google off of rumors and didn't have the same energy for Samsung in fact you promoted them and the z fold 6 on my bust of the year list. They had no differences whatsoever but sketch to image. Other than that Samsung took from Google like it was brand new. Everything you said against Google, Samsung did the same is all I was saying

WOW! I took the commercial a whole another way. I took it as Google was showing off a features that IPhones did not have yet. And most of all bro. You are forgetting you are getting an additional 4 gigs of ram bumping it up to 16 gigs of ram. When AI does hit the IPhone, The only phohes to get the feature will be the 15 pros and up due to lack of ram in the base models. Wnen Apple does decide to add more ram to the IPhones. Are they going to raise the price to something people will complain about? Or with people just pay the price? RAM MATTERS!

Used pixel 8pro for ~500. Use for a year or two until the P10/P11 drops that would make it worth upgrading.
If they gave you the 45mm Pixel Watch 3, AND promised a great trade in value for the Pixel 10.

Definitely interested in what they’re doing but I’m going to stick with my pixel 6a for a while. After 8 months I finally found a heating issue with my 6a but it’s particularly while using google maps. Used it for a couple of hours in Tennessee and she got pretty warm. Did not hurt the performance but it sucked down 27% battery in 2 hours

Well i don't know about that. Despite the great reviews i have privacy concerns and secondly the pixel 8 was not a phone i wanted to be seen with. Even if pixel 9 looks slightly better i still have those privacy concerns.

For me it has less to do with what the phones can do and more to do with the fact that my Pixel 6 Pro is aging. I’d love to wait until next year with the better chipset but I kinda need a new device sooner than that.

Is the battery life better? Is the fingerprint scanner faster? Is the screen brighter in daylight? Forget about software ... its hardware that matters now - and memory.

I have an Honor V2. Why would I but the P9P? Not seeing it. More likely to get the Global V3 when it is released.

That camera 5 Head on the Pix9 is WILD! There is no way i would ever buy a phone with thay Frankenstein lego brick on the back.
How we went from the perfectly flat backed LG phones, to the slight lens bump of the iPhone and Galaxy models, to a whole ass massive module thay doubles the thickness of the phone is absolute insanity to me.

@@TechOdyssey That's why I have kept it so long. Still takes better pictures and will do things my wife's S23U can't do. But being Huawei, it is getting less and less support from service providers. Not so bad here in Canada, but it is pretty much persona non grata in the US. Most of the time I just leave i in airplane mode with only wifi and bluetooth turned on.
The pixels for me have been on a steady decline since the 4. Seeing the upcoming 9 lineup is a reminder Google has no commitment to anything even when it's good. I personally hate the design (boring and iterative) the pricing will be even harder to swallow and harder to justify. The tensor chip has gone from an absolute disaster to basically average which is good but why make people pay for that? After owning a p2, p4, p5, p6, p7 AND 8 I'm going to finally have to move on because I can't think of literally any reason to get these new phones over any other brand. Like for Google, a trillion dollar company, is this not embarrassing?

I'm using a think phone and it is fantastic.

I see a lot of folks sitting on 6 and 7 series devices who wont upgrade until the 10. This 9 series is going to struggle.
Problem is the every year new phones technology isn't advancing enough in one year. A 3 4 year upgrade seems more reasonable. We don't need new phones everywhere is to much tech waste and tech in not advancing enough in that short time.
I've been thinking about this for a while... but it feels like Pixel aims for a Minimum Viable Product. I really started to feel this way with the pixel fold. The glossy inner display and the heating issues of the G2 chip. Also, I'm someone that suffers from eye fatigue from pixel phones, and my research has found that it's the quality of the screens that they are using. I'd love to get all the pixel features, but lately it appears that Pixels just want to be "just good enough". Sorry if this comes across as a hot take, just wanted to share my thoughts.
As long as Google has sales limited to a few countries, it is useless to ask them to buy the phones 🤦👎
I’ll give it a whirl. I like stock android without all the mumbo jumbo from Samsung. Also the new finger scanner is plus coming from Apple I will be switching with the 9.
The pro version is going to be $999 and the XL possibly $1200 they better give at the very least $600 trade in for Pixel 8 pro or it's not worth it
Googles trade in is terrible. Resales on google phones are bad.
When Google gets rid of the tensor chip and gives decent trade in value for their own devices, then I'll come back.

Non of that is compelling. How about longer battery life, faster charging, a phone that doesn't heat up like an oven inconsistently. Id also like to see more vibrant color options and customization options.

@@TechOdyssey it's nice to know they have the same problems. I just don't see how all these other companies offer huge battery life and way faster charging for less money than Google is charging. I still love my Pixel 8 it's been one of the best phones I've had but they can do better.

Main reason to maybe switch from my 7pro to 9Pro, would be the size of the 9 pro😂 But maybe It should wait for the 10 with the new processor?
