  • Obstruction Point Hike, specifically the one that takes hikers to Badger Valley and Grand Lake Loop Trail is one the best hikes in Hurricane Ridge, part of Olympic National Park in Washington. Badger Valley to Grand Lake Loop Trail is located at the end of the steep Obstruction Point Road. This trail is steep and strenuous, however, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views the entire way. If you hike this trail at the right time, you also get to see beautiful meadows full of wildflowers and adorable little marmots and deer.

Whenever I used to hike, I never had music playing. I want to hear nature and not disturb any wildlife that might be nearby.

That flower you appreciated is giant hogweed. It is in the same family as Queen Anne's Lace, so understandable for them to be confused. Queen Anne's Lace is smaller, more delicate. :) Great overview of the hike! That climb out of Badger Valley is no joke!

Thank you for the info! It's such a beautiful flower ♥️ yea that climb mixed with the elevation was beautiful but brutal! We would totally do it again though! Have a great day!

The plant that was called Queen Anne's lace (Daucus carota) is actually Cow Parsnip (Heracleum maximum), which is native to the Olympics. It is not giant hogweed (Heracleum mantegazzianum), which is a nonnative plant introduced from Asia. Both (and Queen Anne's lace) are in the carrot family (Apiaceae). Giant hogweed sap is phototoxic causing significant blistering and scarring in response to exposure to ultraviolet light. Cow parsnip sap is also phytotoxic and can cause blistering but is less toxic than giant hogweed.
