Even with the seaweed, it still looks like paradise :)

Well everyone has their own opinion! You just need to see more of the island for your self! The beaches are only a part of the paradise :)

Great stuff. Would be great if you could fly this every day at the same time satellite images of algae are taken. Usf marine sciences process these images twice a day. Would be good to correlate. Not sure their resolution
Would get so close to shore, but will ask
When I meet them on Thursday.

I think BP is to blame and mother nature is trying to clean up the toxic mess left behind by the oil spill. BP should have to pay for this.

then if you go to the travel forums, the people are there saying it's no big deal, step over it! lmao so stupid yeah "just step over" 500 ft of rotting weed.

This was three years ago when it caught the island by surprise. Since then major/popular beaches have measures in place to clean it up. Also, it is seasonal, not all year round, and does not affect the whole island.

phatkix Perhaps this has nothing to do with mother nature. But, it does make for a convenient climate change push. Geoengineering has more to do with this than mother nature imhso.

I'd imagine it's mostly an issue on eastward beaches (facing the source where this drifts in from ) I've been to the Dominican Republic a few times in recent years on the eastward beaches. yes it's there. although I have not been since this major "natural disaster " as the Caribbean nations are calling it, some of the higher priced resorts invest heavily in daily cleanup of it. both manpower and heavy machinery. I've been to 5 star resorts where seaweed was never an issue until later in the evening when tides start bringing it back in. but just next door at a 2 star resort it would be too thick to swim . either way, pick a resort with decent swiming pools lol. this will definitely hurt the Caribbean nations economy though. personally I would not travel there regardless how well a resort tries to clean it up. this is the worst epidemic of the sargasum . climate change is a wonderful thing.
