I had a service centre in Milton Keynes and he was my customer; one, if not the nicest bloke I've ever met and I have met a lot of more famous artists in my time.
I saw them at the O2 Academy in Glasgow a few years back and it was the best gig I'd been to in years. They had a lot more energy than some bands 40 years younger, lol.
Just saw them a little over a month ago in Seattle, and they were wonderful. So great to finally see the classic core lineup that made both the Black Album and Strawberries back together again. It just felt and sounded right.
I love that man. Such a one off, and an absolute gentleman when I met him. He's the bridge between my love of punk and psychedelia. National fookin' treasure. ❤
I still have some radio chats he did recorded from tape. I liked the song he did 'Croydon'. I once worked there , commuting by train from Brighton every day . Happy days ..
Fantastic video! I did a 'historical painting' of his rabbit a few years ago for a rabbit-themed art show (complete with cuddly toys in his room, which I'd seen on his appearance on 'Through the Keyhole'). It's great to see the rabbit appear in another film.
I was a bit young for The Damned but remember Happy Talk. Even when i discovered The Dammed later, i didn't believe it was the same guy! Also remember them in The Young Ones ("Nasty").
I was introduced to his music recently and my gif when I heard WOT for the first time and absolutely bloody adored it and if course his other work on ‘Woman And Captains First’, but especially that song. He is such a legend and iconic artist. It’s great to see a brief but lively interview of him. Such a talented, inspiring and lovely bloke.
His solo stuff just got better & better, particularly after his pop A&M Records period... His albums "Revolution Now!", "The Universe Of Geoffrey Brown" & "Mad Dogs & Englishmen" are just brilliant musically...👌👌👌
I was never a fan of the Damned, but I will never forget the night we saw (on TV) Captain Sensible singing Happy Talk. My grandmother, exiting the room when the kid's pop music shows came on, turned around in shock, and confusion, exclaiming, "That's from South Pacific!" Colourful hair, jump around making a noise.. Ho hum. Singing "Rogersan Ammastine", and quite nicely too - controversy!
Clearly. They still tour to this day, and he's worth $4 million. Besides his happiness was worth more, shown by his enjoyment of playing for his bunny. 🤦♂️What a rough life, living at home, having a girlfriend, a pet, and loving what you do. It must have been agony, according to the constant smile on his face. Imagine living surrounded by a bunch of things that you love, doing what you want for work, the horror of it all. 🤦♂️ Bahaha 🤣😂😅
@@onlyme219 err ok. You're the one talking down to someone, and their situation, when they are clearly happy with what they have. As if money is the only thing you care about. To which I say bless you. Bye.
@@northernsnow6982 who am I talking down to and how? I stated 'bless him' Stop being so touchy. I love the band and watch them every-time at Blackpool's Rebellion festival when appearing. You're starting a fight and taking things the wrong way, lighten up :)
I saw the Damned in my local town about fifteen years ago. After the gig, Captain Sensible pulled up his kilt and shoved a banana up his arse. Happy times.
Though I’m sure they did spot it (and edited accordingly) I really want to believe the Beeb didn’t realise the Captain had slipped a _very_ naughty word into his otherwise innocuous version of ‘Happy Talk’ whenever they played it!
i believe he was involved in one of the Chaotic Dischord records according to the backside of the sleeve that mention "Captain Sen*i*le* in the list of performers 😆

The Captain is still going strong and the Damned have been on an extensive tour this year. I'm sorry to say I missed them.
They can still do and do it well

I used to see him all the the time in the prince Albert pub in Brighton just around the corner from btn station.
I love this guy and his music, I would like to meet him to do an interview on my channel!!!
Only one Captain...🤩

Haha!
If there’s any Damned fanatics who’d want a restored Gibson SG Pro “owned” by the good Captain I’ve got it at home in a case for sale 😉
Wot! was my weapon to pack the floor as a club dj in Canada. Before this interview, when he's still in the family home? Bit surprising.

Many Thanks for this BBC Archive, any possibility you can dig out the Captain's 1982 interview on Nationwide with Sue Lawley please...???

Apparently this Robert the Bruce fellow shares my birthday 7-11😝 But more exciting, Ramones have a song called 7-11💥🎸
Brazil 🇧🇷 here
Ray is class and more relevant today with the song "royal rave up"eh prince Andy.
Pretty sure Thatcher looked to von Hayek for inspiration
Captain?
.."WOT?"
Jupiter 8
Funny stuff🙃👌
If he had money he surely would've had a better stereo than that Amstrad muggs eyeful!
