Exactly! The older dogs/wolves/coyotes in a pack will always eat before the pups. They need to survive to protect and feed the pack as well as procreate. Pups are loved but not placed before them in the “lunch line.” It’s a matter of survival of the fittest when it comes to the pups. If a pup is lost, it will likely be mourned for a short time, but in their world, dogs know it can easily be replaced. If an adult capable of hunting and procreating is lost, the whole pack can suffer.
I feel sorry for the mom too 😢. Her behavior is undoubtedly due to the negligence with which she has been living, she surely lives tied to that chain and her ferocity is due to her hunger and everything she has generated internally due to the mistreatment she has also suffered.
