    Just if you guys didn't know, there is no bass player in Animals As Leaders, Only 2 8-strings guitarists and a drummer, pretty incredible what they can do. Tooth and Claw, The Woven Web and Ka$cade are great follow up.

    It inspires such happiness that you two love this and immediately vibe with it as much as most of us long-time fans do. Your joy is real and it's refreshing!
    As for a recommendation, I echo those comments beneath mine and suggest nearly anything by AAL, however, I would specifically highlight the "Inner Assassins" or "Ectogenesis" drum playthrough by their current drummer, Matt Garstka. The drummer featured here, in CAFO, is only on the first album (and yes, he's also great -- check out more of Navene Koperweis).
    There's a series of impeccably recorded drum videos entitled "The Madness of Matt", wherein you can find the current drummer (Garstka) effortlessly laying waste to his kit in a live playthrough of some of AAL's best tracks.
    Again, "Inner Assassins" or "Ectogenesis" are a sure-fire introduction to the drummer's brilliance, while still featuring the audio of the guitarists/bassist. I imagine you'll love it.
    Thank you for the upload!

    I don't think I'm weird I think I have great taste in music,...my two favorite bands: Gojira and Animals as Leaders,...I think it's their uniqueness and talent levels combined.
    You need to go down this rabbit hole that is Animals as Leaders, 'cuz like Gojira, they just have a really stupid hard time making anything other than really good music.
    It's hard for me to make a reaction suggestion because I like all their stuff, so I'm gonna' throw out... "Ectogenesis", but do the Matt Garstka (drummer) video of it, so worth it; it hones in on the part where Tosin and Javier DOUBLE THUMP (Tosin's
    trademark technique) with the bass line of the drummer, it's sick!
    Nerd fact: This album Cafo was on, Tosin Abasi the lead guitarist made the drum score on a computer himself and then him and Javier the rythym guitarist found a drummer who could do it. Then, starting on album 2, that drummer in the video didn't continue and they found a BETTER drummer, Matt Garstka, ever since. The three now have a legendary "band mind meld" as Tosin describes it, that's just freakin' special.

    @ignoblesavage5559 3 года назад

    I agree with everyone who suggests Tempting Time by AAL...& I'd further suggest t that you do tosin abasi's playthrough vid for it so you can see he's actually able to play ALL the guitar (rhythm & lead) & bass parts on his guitar, live, flawlessly.
    ALSO love the Cynic comparison, not that it "sounds like," just the fusion of metal & jazz. Also because Cynic will just forever be a favorite of mine.
    Also, any old school Cynic fan will tell you also about Atheist, for whom former Cynic bass player Tony Choy played (before they picked up the even MORE masterful Sean Malone) & with whom they share a ton of musical DNA...Unquestionable Presence & Mother Man are great places to start. Think Cynic in terms of technicality but less jazzy...a little heavier. Unless you've already reacted to them (I'll have to double check).
    Incidentally, Herman Li of Dragonforce got Tosin Abasi to show up & do a live playthrough for Through the Fire & Flames, with another guitarist (forget who rt now) that's interesting in the sense of how easy he (tosin) makes the superspeedy DF parts look while adding more strings to the nonsolo parts.

    When *Dude* mentioned Cynic I immediately thought of Coroner, a Swiss progressive/technical thrash metal band that sounded like a mix between Death, Slayer and with a dash of Rush's progressive elements. If *you guys* haven't heard that band before (they released 4 albums) I highly recommend **Coroner - Masked Jackal** (album Punishment for Decadence) and **Coroner - Semtex Revolution** (album Mental Vortex)
    There are a few sick/cool parts spread out here and there but overall it's just very complex technical time signatures and syncopation that to me often lacks groove. Remember, these are my personal opinions based on my personal preferences and I'm simply not into hyper-technical complex progressive metal... Tosin Abasi is other-wordly though. The stuff he does with a guitar is next-next-next level and a sight to behold (and hear). I really liked his tapping part in this song. Not too fond of his distorted sound.. I guess they filtered out certain frequencies to not clash with other instruments.. or that was the sound he was going for.
    I'd rather watch the Tosin Abasi demonstration videos where he freaks out on his own since he's just beyond belief. Perhaps my ears are too "old" but I did listen to a lot of very technical metal (progressive death/thrash etc.) stuff when I was younger but I lost interest and wanted something with more "soul" and less "maths". I know very little about their catalogue though so if the fans suggest songs that are more groovy and a little bit more accessible I'm all for it. :)
