Djent and progressive metal will never be my type of thing but I did meet Tosin Abasi at the Ibanez Guitar Festival in Germany around 10 years ago. He's actually pretty chill and humble but his performance during the blues jam was kinda weak...He did play it with Paul Gilbert, Wojciech Hoffman and some German players. Don't get me wrong, he's awesome and I did get a pick from him but he not into every type of music. Javier was there too but didn't play as he had his arm or wrist broken. If you enjoy this then check out another virtuoso - Guthrie Govan and his band The Aristocrats.
my favorite AAL song is STILL an "oldie," called Tempting Time. brilliant use of mood and, of course, wild talent/skills. tasteful and effective changes of pace and technique while being SUPER catchy. a guitar player's guitar player (and i really can't even play much, myself).
Need to check out some of their newer stuff with current drummer Matt Garstka. Dude is a beast. Watch his playthrough of "Gordian Naught" or "Monomyth".
The guitars are 8 strings that can emulate bass, though sometimes they dub in "real" bass tones. I still can't believe that the drums on this album are all Superior Drummer 2 plugins.
Eddie Van Halen, at one stage, would rotate his guitar 45 degrees where it would latch and he would go off, taping with all of his fingers...Tosin is a master with the selective picking techniques he rocks....the drummer was off the f'n grappling hook!
Mind blown... Hope they don't take for granted their given talent!!!! Man, love the transition at 11:14. Heavy, complex, yet so enjoyable! 0
Y’all need to watch some drum cam videos from their current drummer Matt Garstka. God-level chops. You won’t believe what you are seeing.

I was lucky enough to see these guys a few years back and they are absolutely ridiculous
Amazing musicians. Another band to check out is Strawberry Girls. Don't let the name fool you.

AAL is all-consuming and highly addictive, their new album is other worldly

A band that I've always found impressive rather than good. I've seen them live. Very static.
