This is the same way polygamy works. No woman really wants to share a man with another woman and if they do there will be jealousy.
Definitely not how polygamy works. There are a few cdramas where polygamous relationships work because the wives are friends with each other and the main wife is nice. Two examples are New Life Begins (although, that is a fictional world, I think) and Oh, My General. So long as there is mutual respect among the wives and they avoid infighting, a polygamous relationship can work.

In most cases of Chinese polygamy, there is no real jealousy because there is no competition. The wife is the manager of the house. A concubine has no say in anything that goes on. She does not have a say in family decisions, she cannot be buried with her husband's family, she does not sit to entertain guests, her kids will not call her or mourn her as a mother, and she must serve and obey the wife. Concubinage is an arrangement whereby the woman gets food and shelter (and maybe her birth family gets a one-time compensation) in exchange for her bearing children. Much of the time it's the wife who selects the concubine, and she's treated as more of a house staff than anything else. If a woman becomes a concubine, she's usually either an orphan or her family is struggling to survive.
In larger families with a lot of concubines, often times the concubines see and interact with each other more often than they do their husband. Why would there be jealousy when they're closer to each other than to the husband?
And you wonder how they thought having multiple wives was a positive. 😂
More wives meant potentially more sons with the hopes that one of them would grow up to be the successor. It probably caused alot of drama like this though.

The fact was that she was not part of the Xu family when she started poisoning the first wife. She was an outsider.
Then after she got into the Xu family she tried to kill the legal heir.
Nothing is his fault. She was given the option of temporarily disappearing and then marrying someone later on. She Chose to lower herself to be his concubine banking on the Old Madam to backing her to become the legal wife.
She was warned to back down and don’t reach for what isn’t hers. She ignored that warning. Like usual.
