Hi James What a great review. One can almost taste the meal watching you eat it. Thank you again for sharing all these wonderful dining experiences with your readers. Best wishes for a merry Christmas and a super New Year!
Competition is good, James. Keeps all the players honest. I just saw a food review of Hawksmoor London. The reviewer was ecstatic about the steak and sides. Thank you for all the classy, entertaining reviews you've given us this year. Merry Christmas to you, your dad, and all your family !
Another stellar review. Your descriptions are so detailed I can almost taste what you’re eating. You are single-handedly responsible for my reintroduction to red meat. Thank you for that and Happy Holidays James.
That was a very tempting and appetizing review of a steakhouse off the radar to many. The decor of this restaurant looked fabulous, as well. I much appreciate your reviews and take this moment , James, to wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Keep up with your labor of love.
Hello James, happy holidays & Merry Christmas 🎄! I truly enjoyed watching you dine at Hawksmoor all your dishes looked delicious and tasty , that bone marrow presentation was great 👍🏽. Love me a good martini 🍸 that steak 🥩 I’m sure tasted hit the spot . Thank you for sharing James ! Jose P.
Thanks for making this video! Never heard of this resto until now. The steak looked so tender. And the dessert also looked amazing. Hubby and I have decided that we have to eat here next. We’re so excited 🤩
I have eaten several times at the one in Manchester. The food was better than average. But what made it special was the service. Very friendly and attentive, which is sometimes hard to find in the UK
Great review! You must try the Porterhouse. I am not a huge “meat lover” but Hawksmoor is my exception. I like your review format very much. I appreciate that you take all aspects (ambiance, cocktails, etc.) into account. You have become one of my favorites. Great job and I am pleased that you enjoyed your experience. Cheers!
Thanks for the video. Recently traveled to Greenpoint from our home in San Jose California. The highlight of our trip was a pizza eating a slice from L’Industrie pizza . We had a great stay at the William hotel . We checked in on NYC Marathon Sunday and walked two blocks to Bedford Av to watch tha Marathon go by . We were there when the female leaders went by . Amazing how fast their pace looked in person. I have a restaurant recommendation for you. Greenpoint Fish and Lobster on Nassau Av across the street from Amber Steakhouse. My wife is from Boston and loved the Lobster . I had the Lobster roll and it was comparable to the best i have had in Boston. Thank you for video. Merry Christmas.
I'm glad to hear that you had a nice experience in NYC! I really enjoy L'Industrie as well. Thanks for the recommendation! That's a place I've actually been meaning to try.
Funny that two RUclipsrs went to Hawksmoor today one in London and then you in NYC!!!❤ What are the chances of that! Greeno says the same about the UK prices
Hi James Thanks for your review of Hawksmoor. I have never thought of it for a dinner but you have opened my eyes. Everything looks wonderful and I love a good steak 🥩! Merry Christmas 🎄 and a Happy New Year 🥳 James! Best Wishes, Peter
This has certainly been on my radar! When I lived in England, I never made it there, so I certainly want to give our NYC location a try. To start, that bone marrow looked perfect. Beef butter at its best. I'm a ribeye guy myself, and love a nutmeg heavy creamed spinach. Definitely an excellent evening. Thanks, as always, for an excellent review!
Wow, that place really seemed to have everything that you look for in your review videos. I'd eat there in a heartbeat when in NYC again. Sometimes "Less is More"! Merry Christmas!
So glad you avoided a martini-related injury! 🤣As someone who dines solo often, appreciate that their sides are individual. Another great meal. Thanks for sharing. Happy Holidays!!
Great review, James. The food looked delicious (even the spinach and not a fan). Looking forward to your next video. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄
Love the review and the quality and simplicity of the offering, have dined in the central London branch a few years ago, time for a return. Side note why do they only give you a spoon for the dessert and no accompanying fork? Merry Christmas 🎄
Glad you made it. I have eaten in the London Borough Market branch, which is an old warehouse. You can taste the grass in the meat, I swear. Just did some good eating in France.
Glad you liked it. I had a very similar meal there last year. Still curious to see how you like it compared to Quality Meats. I slightly preferred QM, but I had a traditional strip steak there. At Hawksmoor I wanted something a little different so I had a cast iron steak, can’t remember the cut, with skirlie, which was basically onions, oats, and bone marrow. Not really an apples to apples comparison.
James, I am truly jealous. "Perfectly satisfied" does more than sum up your impressions of Hawksmoor. BTW, my Hungarian grandma introduced me to bone marrow a long time ago, for which I am most grateful. I have a need for their version of the dish...mmm. Merry Christmas to you and yours. 🌲
I’ve never heard of this place. It looks great. That dining room is amazing! Love the high ceilings and all the arches. Beautiful! I thought your total for your bill would have been more. Decent price actually for all that you got. I’ll remember this place. Thanks.
James I had a typo on my post stayed at the William Vale hotel. Born and raised in Greenpoint Brooklyn.i was a runner back in the day. In 1985 ran the Tangerine bowl half marathon at age 50 . Ran an 8 minute pace finished. I’m 80 right now and do the treadmill every day. 30 minutes and a mile and a half. Love to see you run NYC marathon 🍺
I know you were eyeing the porterhouse... To bad the steak doesn't come with some accompaniments like some type of starch. Nice lighting for that perfect cook. Whoa that bone marrow looked luscious. Nice video James.
A Hawksmoor opened here in Chicago earlier this year. We went in August. It is also a beautiful restaurant-clearly the same basic design as the NYC version. Service, cocktail, sides, were all amazing. Interestingly, we felt the steaks (NY Strip) were the weakest part of the meal. We love dry aged steaks and will order them almost any time they are available, so that wasn't the issue. They just seemed a bit dry and not super flavorful. We do need to try it again, as every other aspect of the experience was phenomenal.
Please if you go back try the sticky toffee pudding and maple tart on their desert menu. While I do find their steaks to be around average for NYC steakhouses, these two deserts are some of the best dishes I have ever had anywhere.
A martini related incident might net you free steak...The steak was gorgeous; quality shows. Thank you for getting a dessert; love to see them and experience vicariously.
I've been to one of the Hawksmoors in London and it's pretty much the same level of quality as the one in NYC. Yes, it's a little overpriced. The steaks on the menu are roughly what you'd pay at any other place, but the large format steaks can get wildly expensive. Like $240 for a porterhouse that might cost ~$160 at a place like Gallaghers or Keens. Their best cut is the NON-grass-fed rib chop. Also, as you mentioned, their sides are individual sized but they cost the same as family-sized sides at other steakhouses. One huge thing with Hawksmoor is their lenient BYO policy. They'll let you bring pretty much as many bottles as you want for $35 ($10 on Mondays) and they never give you a hard time about it. That's the real reason to go there.
Nice Video James, We have dined at Hawksmoor the last two times to NYC, always splitting a ribeye, bone marrow, atlas carrots, a potato dish and the same desert that you had. I am curious - what was your best steak this year? And if not in NYC, what is your favorite steakhouse in Manhattan? Thank you!
I live in London and have loved Hawksmoor for years. They were voted the best steakhouse in the world a few years back and that was probably true, but I'm sorry to report that it isn't any more. They've become a chain and the quality has started to slide. The service isn't quite the same. The attention to detail isn't. I used to take people to Hawksmoor to show them the fries because they were the most perfect you could find anywhere... but now they're just good.
Great review haven't been will try . Tea and sympathy does a great Sunday roast and with strawberry shortcake with custard on top you can't go wrong and it's under $50 I'm friends with owner Nikki.
My ex wife was an avid steak eater and we tried lot of steak from expensive to mom and pop restaurants! Without any disrespect the best steak I had eaten at mom and pop places…
I am curious, do they have toppings for Steaks like Burgundy Mushrooms or Diane style. It has been years since I had a good Steak 🥩. My personal favorite Steak 🥩 I ever had was in Chicago IL. Strangely enough that actor from Mama's Family that played her Son was a Regular customer. But anyway I Digress. My Dad took me to the restaurant when I was about 19 and I was like I want the Filet Mignon stuffed with Crab 🦀 and Shrimp, done Oscar Style. I remember my Mother saying that I should not ordered the Most Expensive Thing on The Menu. But I Was Hungry. Absolutely Delicious 😋!!!
So bummed. Took my bestie out for his birthday to Gage & Tollner instead of Hawksmoor. Got out-voted, sadly. Was very underwhelmed with G&T, though their cocktail bar Sunken Harbor Club was big fun.
As I have moved progressively toward the completion of my forthcoming guide to American steakhouses (with special emphasis accorded to New York), Hawksmoor surfaced and has of recent appeared intriguingly on my radar. The first of two visits (at lunch) proved nothing short of rewarding; but the return during dinner service shone ever more brightly. Of note: the pepper-crusted 32 oz. porterhouse was outstanding, as was the singular slate of worthy accompaniments. This stunning restaurant with impeccable service provides a first-rate dining experience that, as James masterfully points out, competes favorably (no mean feat!) with some of NYC's deservedly iconic gems. High praise for Hawksmoor and many thanks, indeed, to J.A.!
Love your reviews. One comment, I’ve believe the “proper” way to eat something on bread (or toast) is to tear off a bite-sized piece of bread and spread the bread with the item such as the bone marrow you had here.
There is one thing I am curious about regarding all of the steak houses you’ve visited. That is, where is their beef coming from? Something you might start asking about… Thank you.
$20+ dollar drink with gin that is $20 for the entire bottle. If you are expecting to spend $200 on a meal, you would think they would try and go with something more unique for the mixed drinks

That looked like a wonderful dining experience. The bone marrow starter looked incredible and so did the entree and desert. Merry Christmas James!

We loved the London location. I’m definitely going to visit the NY one in January when I’m home.

Excellent review Andrew! There's a Hawksmoor in Chicago and if i can i need to get dowtown so i can try it. I enjoyed your experience!
Thank you! Yeah, the Chicago Hawksmoor looks great! I think they even have a special Italian Beef sandwich just for the Chicago location.
Happy Holidays dude, thank you for the awesome content ❤

from the look and sound of it, hawksmoor is the epitome of quiet confidence. i find this to align with the steakhouse route harmoniously.

We have dined at Hawksmoor the last two times to NYC, always splitting a ribeye, bone marrow, atlas carrots, a potato dish and the same desert that you had.
I am curious - what was your best steak this year? And if not in NYC, what is your favorite steakhouse in Manhattan? Thank you!
That cocktail looks good, but if you come to London you'll need to try the Duke's Hotel the Dukes hotel 5 oz Martini (£25).
Great video! That Peanut Butter Louis looked excellent.
Greeno ordered the ribeye too. But he had his with chips and the steamed spinach 🥔🎄
Today I learned, that winter is steak season 😀. So similar to spring, summer and fall.
One of my favorites in the city….you gotta get the bone marrow gravy next time, Best side sauce in the city!
That sounds good! Thanks for the recommendation!
Merry Christmas to James got enjoy any meal in New York and world 😊. And Happy New Year 2025 🎉😊 to James got all best wishes.
I don't understand that steak by the ounce menu. Does the price per ounce vary? Depending on what? I'm confused.
