    Got through reading the bible with the bible project reading plan. They have little videos along the way that make it more understandable and theres always Tim's teachings as well. but I'm so glad I got the bible read because I understand it so much better. Now Bible Project has a thing called "classrooms" where you go through so many different ideas like , How to read the bible and maybe the book of Ephesians or whatever and you go online to like a classroom and theres the lesson and questions are asked and answers are explored. Not a nerd but I study what I can.

    I’d have thought this fellow would have a reasonable knowledge of biblical scholarship. But is he really
    claiming that Moses wrote the Pentateuch? Or at least part of it?

    • @kevinsimpson6147
      @kevinsimpson6147 4 года назад

      I realize this was over a year ago but Tim says:
      "he[Moses], or later authors who worked on the Torah or Pentateuch after Moses,..."
      I can see how the phrasing could be interpreted either way, but I've listened to Tim Mackie speak in more depth about the Pentateuch so I'm fairly certain he knows enough not to suggest Moses wrote it.

    • @urasam2
      @urasam2 4 года назад +1

      @@kevinsimpson6147 Thanks for your reply. Maybe not as bad as I thought, but even to suggest that Moses wrote anything is a tad gullible, to say the least. Anyway, I have always found Mackie to be really shallow, and hippy drippy, apart from being a scruff. I'm sure he's very nice, though.

      @@urasam2 I see where you're coming from but what about Exodus 17:14?

    • @urasam2
      @urasam2 4 года назад +1

      @@kevinsimpson6147 Surely you're not implying that because it says in Exodus that Yahweh told Moses to write something in a book, that we should take that as a fact? For a start, Exodus datets from the 5th century BC, and Moses allegedly lives in the 13th century, thereabouts. Secondly, nowhere in Exodus does the author claim to be Moses. Thirdy, the passage you mention also has Yahweh waging war against the Amalekites, having Moses hold up his arm to magically bring defeat to his enemies, and losing the battle when he puts his arm down. THis doesn't sound like history to me. Finally, Yahweh apparently wants the name of Amelek to be blotted from history, so clearly didn't do a very good job. No, sorry, it's all made up, nobody should take it any way other than to derive perhaps some mythical truths about human nature.

    • @kevinsimpson6147
      @kevinsimpson6147 4 года назад

      @@urasam2 Tony Littman all I'm saying is in Exodus 17:14 it implies the story of the defeat of the Amalekites was initially recorded by Moses. Not all of Exodus. Whether it is true or not, it is still implied. I don't see the initial recording of this story by Moses or more likely someone under the direction of Moses as particularly unbelievable. Then again I'm not an expert. Honestly, it is not high on the list of important topics for me, but I would definitely be interested to know more about it if you have strong reasons for why you disagree.

    The" Ashnei knenesset hagdola"(120 men of the great assembly) cannonized the books of the Hebrew bible "Tanakh" 250bce.
    The orthodox Hebrew bible used today matches the Dead sea scrolls exactly. There is only one Tanakh Torah used in history all match word for word. The Artscroll Hebrew Tanakh is the golden standard with Hebrew to english.
    We do not refer to the Tanakh as the "old testament". This is actually insulting to God.The church coined this derogative term to imply Hebrew bible replaced by JC s death human sacrifice etc.
    Origen of the church formulated the Old testament using fragments of syriac Greek and Hebrew Latin etc.Jerome later came up with Latin Vulgate. Martin Luther and Sir Issac Newton admitted church meddled with the Hebrew original scriptures.
    Note: the original Lxx Septuagint 72 rabbis translated from Hebrew into Greek was only the first five books "Torah" Genesis to Deut. Not the balance of the Tanakh. The church father's modified changed the Hebrew Bible in hundreds of places to support JC being messiah.
    There are hundreds of variant versions of Christian bibles none match each other or the source scriptures of the koine Greek NT or the Hebrew Tanakh.
    Watch Tenak Talk channel. Respected rabbi s explain and verify these facts. שלום
