Thank you. Planned on bringing them in the basement this Sunday when I have help. It snowed yesterday & today Nov 21. I was panicking. You have eased my fear. Temp low - 30° tonight.

En España he tenido las higueras a -12ºC y no se ha muerto ninguna, a veces enterradas en nieve.

    Hey Ross
I live 7a and all but 1 day last year was above 15 degrees.(one got down to 8 degrees) will most trees survive in ground? I know some are more sensitive than others. Im good with wrapping to protect if needed

I'm wondering, Ross, if you have a video of finishing off longer season figs so they can ripen up? Many folks I hear bring theirs indoors to ripen and then let go dormant. Do you have a tested way of doing this? We have a shorter season in the Southwest, thanks.

I didn't know! So my skinny 5+yr old fig tree has struggled. About 4 foot tall but spindly. Have produced a few figs. I bring it in every winter and after watching your video, it should be in the attached garage. I have a thermometer in the garage so I can monitor temps. Leaves are sprouting now. What should I do now?

Thank you Ross! Starting to understand why my trees here in Fort Worth TX get off to such a bad start in the Spring? We do have some cold but it doesn’t last long but enough to slowly drop the leaves. Temps 70’s then 30’s to mid 20’s then 70’s . Then it wants to bud then a cold spell. Trees are saying what the hell! Just don’t have a place to store them warm all the time. They say here “ if you don’t like the weather wait a day”.

Will this work on a new Fig cutting that's in a 4x9 tree pot? Limb or limbs not lignified.

When storing in a garage or dry place should we still continue watering the rootball during winter?

New to figs myself, however what I’ve gathered is very small amounts of water throughout dormancy. Such as letting snow melt on them etc. sorry that’s not the best answer.

Hey Ross if you have some warm winter days, like it suddenly warms up, do you pull the tarp off partially or completely or ? What would you do? thanks:)

Hey Ross , I have a good size tree that gets huge black figs on it . It is in a huge pot and wakes up early every February with many unripe figs and no leaves. Do I pull these figs off and try to keep it dormant ? It did the same thing last year, and did come around in the spring and got a nice crop in August. In my shop in Ohio. Garry

Very simple answer, like every single other plant on earth, water them when the soil dries out completely (in most cases fig trees when dormant in a cool spot indoors will stay moist so no need to water) but check once a month to ensure that the soil isn’t totally dry and that’s the best answer ;-)
