Editing here is perfect. Those people knew how to DANCE. Back then, they choreogreaphed, practiced and were extremely physically in touch.

Honestly one of the biggest reasons I like the group BTS, they work hard and engage their audience. You're right, we don't see enough of these quality performances anymore unfortunately.

A lot of the films are from 1930s-1950s. Some great, truly classic movies and scenes featured in this fun video! Gene Kelly is my favorite as he did it all (acting, singing, dancing, directing, producing, choreographing). The Nicholas Brothers seem to pop up every few years or so because of their amazing talent. If anyone is interested, look them up on RUclips. You will not be disappointed.

A couple of scenes came straight from the ‘20s, as well. All of our modern dance routines are directly based on these eras in pop culture.

Apparently we need to request you watching some older movie musicals. Some of the movies in that montage are singing in the rain, on the town, Easter parade, the little colonel, several of the follies movies (1940 and such), etc.
The guys doing the splits down the stairs are the Nicholas Brothers, some of the best dancers in the business at the time, and that is probably their most well known dance.
Some of the dancers featured in that montage, are Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Judy Garland, Ginger Rogers, Jerry of Tom and Jerry, the Nicholas Brothers, and Bojangles.
And yes this is a master class in editing. Whoever did this is a genius.

I’m old (70) so I can tell you these are all movies from the 30s and 40s. The little girl dancing with the black gentleman is Shirley Temple. I wish I could name all the actors in each segment but that would take quite some time! Also, movie stars back in the day had to learn acting, singing and dancing! Called that a triple threat. Enjoy!

In order to get a job in the movie industry in those days, you had to be able to sing, dance and act. That was the era of real talent.

In the scene with two men, a woman, and a couch, the woman was played by Carrie Fisher's mother - Debbie Reynolds.

I think the earliest clip in this is from 1926, and the latest 1953 (except the last two, which I think are from a 1970s TV special called "That's Entertainment"). If you turn the captions on when you watch the video, you'll see the title of the movie in question and the year it was released. And I think someone in the comments of that video listed out the names of all of the dancers; they managed to identify everyone except for the two young men in "Golddiggers of Broadway".

Who ever edited this must have had a lot of time on their hands , this would have taken so long to do. Finding the perfect clips and editing them seamlessly. You've got to appreciate the time and effort that went into making this.

So much appreciation for the time and work that went into making this. Nice to have my parent's generation stars honored in this way. Noticed Marlene Dietrich, Laurel and Hardy, Groucho Marx. Icons all.

A LOT of those cuts were of Fred Astaire. Some with his usual partner Ginger Rogers. All these people practiced and practiced and practiced, and when they thought they got it right ... they practiced some more to make their dance perfect. They knew they were lucky to have a chance to perform in front of a camera and did not take it advantage of it. They earned the large sums of money they received for their work.
