Simple Layering

Simple layering or propagation by layering is a technique used to propagate plants without removing the branch from the parent plant.This video explains how to propagate mulberries using simple layering. This simple layering explanation can be used with a range of different plants and is the simplest and lowest maintenance variety of layering.
To layer all you require is a cutting implement, a piece of wire or peg to hold your layered material into the ground and a low hanging branch.
Make a small diagonal incision in the cutting material, place a small piece of grass or leaf in the incision to prevent it healing and peg it into the ground. Once covered in soil, it can be watered and kept damp to assist in providing suitable conditions for roots to form.
