Yes, habitual DUI and possibly a big body count as a result. Naturally, she considered being prohibited to have a car was a violation of her liberty so she took action to circumvent that 'unjust' ruling and now she's out of even more cash as a result.
CLUES FOR THE CLUELESS: Don't try to be clever to skirt around the law. It just ends up expensive and can even cost you your freedom.

The plaintiff only wanted the defendant for as long as she was useful to her. However, at the same time, I wonder how much of the truth she knew about why her friend wasn't allowed to own or drive a car? Seems like she was lied to and she wanted to help her. The plaintiff should blame the grandson, not her friend. I believe she sold the car for two reasons
    1) To avoid entering into more serious problems in the future just because her name is attached to the car (if the car hurts or kills someone for instance, as Judge Judy said.
    2) She was obviously angry she had to pay to get it out of impound and there is no guarantee the friend would have agreed to pay her back that money.
On the other hand, if the grandson is an adult, he should take responsibility for driving the car without permission and causing the plaintiff all this distress.
Above all, it isnt right to break the law.

You can get your license suspended for failure to maintain insurance. Where I live every insurance company is obligated to notify the DMV if your insurance lapses for more then 30 days (they normally do it 60 days for you to catch up) and the DMV will suspend your license automatically. It happened to my roommate in college. He got stopped for a traffic offense and when they ran his license they found the suspension. He got three tickets, one for the original offense, driving while on a suspended license, and failure to maintain insurance. His passenger had to drive the vehicle form the stop. He had to pay the tickets, a fine for the suspended license separate from the ticket, an extremely high prepaid premium for car insurance, and a reinstatement fee for his drivers license. It was quite expensive.
It's not as simple as a process as JJ makes it sound. And if you fail to correct the suspended license the suspension can become a revocation.
