- The staff at an Oswego County animal shelter is stunned by the lack of emotion displayed this week as a senior dog was surrendered. Sophia, a 14-year-old golden retriever was brought to the Friends Forever Animal Rescue.

@@xeniaurbaez1560 Do the work and find a home for your pet. Don’t dump and let someone else do your dirty work. If, medically, it’s the end of the line for your pet, accompany your animal to its final vet trip and be there to comfort and reassure.
Exactly when they have had dog there whole life and those people were all this dog knew. Like the lady said drove around town till she could dump this Poor dog. Then the dog sits there and watching its owner drive away like all those years of Love and Loyalty and being part of the family. Poor dog did nothing wrong. I am gonna do some something about this dog and help. I will if I can adopt this dog and if she has 6 months or 6 years I will show her love to the end.

The 14-year-old dog dropped off at an Oswego County shelter earlier this week now has a new home after a veterinarian took her in. “She now has 800 acres and furry siblings to share her life with. It was love at first sight when he and his wife met her.'

I'm glad she gave that senior dog up. The dog clearly wasn't getting taken care of with overgrown nails, fleas, and probably not getting enough to eat. The dog is finally getting the love she deserves now.

Think shelters are the answer to all their dog and cat “problems” when they get tired of them or can’t afford them anymore or have to move away but they literally depend on us humans and they don’t ask for much but they give so much unconditionally. Sacrifices and being more resourceful to finding solutions that have a happy outcome for all is often avoided.
This was probably a blessing in disguise. Especially if she was being neglected. 😢

Just read that Sophia was sav d by a vet and will live out her years in a warm loving environment. Hopefully in time she will forget the horrible people who abandoned her. God bless this vet who saved her!

Its going to require strict state and federal laws and those to enforce them. When it hits these cold hearted abusers in the wallet and face prosecution, things will change. This should be a criminal act similar to abandonment of a child. If you take them to a shelter, your financially responsible until they are adopted, abandon them and you are charged with abuse. All animals need to be chipped when they are born, with all of the owners info including financial, assets. Treat this like child support.

There IS one thing worse than leaving an elderly dog at a shelter: leaving her on the side of the road out in the country.
We live in the country and see this far too often. I have no words for the rage and grief this inspires in me.

@@tommas2674 Sometimes it *is* the most loving option. I had to give up my llamas when I just could no longer give them the care (shearing, clipping nails) they deserved. It makes me happier knowing that they now live on a sheep farm, and have jobs to give them satisfaction (looking after mamas and babies).
@@llamasugar5478 me living on a shoe string because OTHERS wanted not just what I had worked for but what I was working towards and their are many who participated, so my bichon, I got when I didn't realize that was what was being done, at 16yo. he got his last rabies shot. started having wicked seizures. my apt boobied trapped tore up my leg all muscle and ... to knee cap off to the side and swollen, I crawled to give him whirlpools not being able to bend my knee, after his two meals daily And for the seizures he needed Expensive meds, I search for someone who would take him get him the meds and give him two more years because the day before the rabie shot he was still a puppy acting and I taught him to recognize and react to two words on flash cards. they didn't try.
lol, I grew up in the country but my heart saw them as blessings all around.
My shih tzu passed at 16, I got him when I was 11 years old. I did everything for that dog at the end of his life, constant vet visits, and meds to keep him comfortable. I loved that little dog, and now I’ve got a 6 year old heeler, and I’ll never abandon her or any of my dogs.
My husband and I are senior citizens and adopted a 10 year old dog from the shelter. She has thyroid issues, skin problems and arthritis. She was abandoned by her person. We also have three other dogs that were adopted. One had his owner die and no one in the family wanted him, so we took him. These dogs are so happy and grateful to have a loving home. I do not understand how anyone could do this to a dog they have had their entire life.
I have had a number of dogs in my life but the love from a senior is special.
The sad thing here is she spent 14 years with a family that clearly we not particularly bothered about her, yet to her they were her world😢

You don't know this for sure. You are assuming. Taking care of a dog's skin and grooming needs TAKES MONEY! Money that some people don't have. Think about everything first before you say something stupid.
@@queencupcake09 It's actually not that hard to take care of a dog's skin and grooming needs yourself, and if it really was about money then they should have surrendered her sooner rather than let her suffer. I say this from experience; my mother adopted a dog who was grossly underweight (a 40lb dog who should have been 70lb) because her original family (who had her from puppy) had a human baby and decided they couldn't afford (time or money) to take care of them both. So instead of surrendering her early on (or even seeking a shelter's help in finding aid services), they let her get incredibly emaciated and sick before finally ditching her. Fur babies aren't objects, they're living critters. "I didn't have the money for upkeep so I just left it" works for an overgrown yard; it does NOT work for pets.
Plus, the shelter woman CLEARLY said she was struck by the lack of emotion in the drop-off in addition to the dog's poor state. So, y'know, something something think before you say something stupid.

I went to the pound to look for my lost dog and there were 2 young men surrendering their dog because they were going on vacation.....no words.
A lot of elderly are unable to care for the animal, limited income and cost going so high. It is heart breaking to see. Cost of flea treatment, heart guard is ridiculous in this country. Dog food is expensive now. When they are already making a choice between food and medication for themselves. Also, many can no longer have the ability to care for them psychically. I have been with people who gave their animals up and were very depressed. Missed them. Been on church visit with one really poor lady to asist, she asked for cat food only. She had been praying she get food for the cat. Well don't you know we brought her a ton of cat food, and groceries for her. Flea treatment and a bag of bird seed she loved to feed the birds in her yard. So be kind, ones never know a person reason for giving up their animal. One dog I had owner had cancer and went to hospice, I got at shelter, wanted to arrange a visit but she had passed already. Be kind.

I was terrified to get my adopted shelter dog because I never had a lifetime commitment. She is the best thing that's ever happened to me and I'm so glad I walked through my fear to give her an awesome life. How anyone could abandon a dog is inconceivable.

Lost my 16yr old boy that had dementia his last yr and I’d have sold my soul to have him here with me..senior dogs are so precious and they deserve the very best we can give them..

I feel the same way. My 14 year old dog got inoperable cancer last year, and we had to put him to sleep. That was the worst day in my life. I miss him so much.
I still cry over losing my 14 year old pug two years ago. She was family and I loved her so much. This is unbelievable 😡.

@tommas - NO, one doesn't just 'have to be stoic' - stop your stupid cut/paste crap. If you cannot take that family-member with you, you work your butt off to make sure they are placed in a better situation than you can provide. I've had to do so, it is hard & heartbreaking, but I made sure my dog went to a good family, and stayed in touch with them for several years. There are arrangements for my pets now, if anything were to happen to myself or family. If you are just 'being stoic' you are LAZY & SELFISH.

I understand my lab was 17 1/2 when we lost her..
We just lost our dog a little over 2 weeks ago due to old age. He was 15. The last few years, the vet bills started to climb but there is absolutely no way I would have ever given up on him. After 15 years of love and loyalty we loved and cared for him until the end. I miss him so much I don't understand how someone could be so heartless to do this and abandon their pet.

Real comment here: Same for my darling Lucy-fur. 14 year old black lab. She died March 22 in our backyard, surrounded by nothing but love. Yes, vet bills get high toward the end, but you do what you can do. I miss my Lucy every day.

As someone with a 14 year old rescue golden, i could not imagine giving her up. I rescued her from a shelter at 6 months old (she had been abandoned during the recession) and she is mine, just to care for her I've made sacrifices but that is what you do for love. I would happily give Sophia a caring and loving home with my 14 year old senior golden girl.
I adopted a stray dog during the recession in 2009 also! He was picked up by an LA shelter, but no one came to claim him. Then he was transported to Vancouver BC and I adopted him. Best dog ever. I would give anything to still have him alive and with me. He developed inoperable cancer last year and we had to put him to sleep. That was such a sad and difficult day. I cannot in my wildest dreams imagine abandoning him in a shelter at that age. He would have been heart broken.

I guess taking her to a shelter was better than dumping her in the middle of nowhere or turning her loose on the street. It sounds like the person wasn't taking very good care of her anyway, so this should be a good thing for Sophia. Now, she has a chance to live out her "golden" years as a cherished member of a family.
@chrismorgan9153 Many people are heartless losers & really do nothing for anyone except themselves. This is one we know of that wasn't "dumped" as you wrote. Getting a needle or gassed to death because of heartless inhumane "things" that are suppose to be the most advanced species is a commentary on society. What we "accept" or "oh well, & so it goes" changes nothing.
What do the masses care about? Oh yes, over priced coffees, impressing their so-called friends, flat screen televisions, fake nails, the latest cell phone, fake lashes, expensive shoes & bags...but taking care of a dog or cat FOREVER, obviously is not a priority or as a society, we would have no need for animal (kill) shelters.

@@aubreyscott513 Yes, she is definitely overreacting, and you are right, shelters and rescues exist for a reason. Ideally, everybody should keep their pets forever, but life often throws at us situations that are not ideal. People who want to do the right thing and bring their dogs to the shelter or rescue should not be afraid that they're going to be shamed on social media and their story end up on the news.
@@simfimpim I don't think its overreacting. shelters are packed and have limited resources. its only a handful of people taking care of all these dumped pets. its exhausting work being put on the backs of the same few people. i had to stop after 2 years because it was so stressful and depressing. I dont know how she's being doing this for over 20 years.
All Pets need and should require the Owner to have a License, which is updated annually and all Breeders need to be Licensed.
Its far to easy, there needs a cooling off period and a commitment process which all helps ensure that the person
really wants the animal and its not just a whim or spur of the moment thing.
So many Humans are completely dysfunctional that they have no idea or rational of what is involved in having a
Pet, even more so if that Pet develops problems or health requirements.
Its not the Animals that are the Problem here its the Humans.

@@susansmith4003 Ideally, people should keep their pets forever. But life is not ideal and sometimes things happen that require people to make tough decisions. People who have had to make this tough decision should not be shamed on the internet or on the news for doing the right thing and surrendering their pet to a rescue.
I highly recommend adopting an older dog. They will show you so much gratitude once they realize you give them a second chance. Any dog you can rescue is good but don't overlook older dogs.

My little lady is almost 17 and I thank the universe every morning that she is still with me. She is a little deaf, a little blind and a little senile but she is loved and cared for. Those people who abandon their senior pets have a special place in hell waiting for them.
The same type of people who would give up their senior dog, because they don’t like the “inconvenience” of caring for an elderly dog, are the same type of people who would dump their parent in a nursing home and not look back. Disgusting and shameful.

exactly the way i feel also. I hear people i know talking about getting dogs all the time, i tell them are you ready to spend a buttload of money? are you ready to dedicate yourself to that animal for at least 12years?? after i finish explaining yearly check ups, emergency vet visits, going to the skin specialist so on and so fourth. Anyways, that usually shuts them up about getting a dog.. Both of our boys, 12 and 14 years old have passed on, one last October the other was may of 2021. No joke we had 40k wrapped up in our two boys over the years, from surgical procedures too regular yearly check ups.

My now 13 1/2 year old mix was taken to a vet when she was 12, and told him to put her down. He refused, got a release from owner, and I now have a sweet dog that is living her best life ever.

I feel the vet who has adopted her will live her final days with love and compassion surrounding her whereas with her former owner she has lived her life in an uncaring environment . God bless the vet and the dog shelter

I was the 3rd owner of a dog years ago. After 6 months I took him to the groomer, it was a business in their home so the dog got out in time to see me drive away. He looked so lost and it felt like he was thinking "I thought you would be the one who would keep me." It was the longest 40 minutes of my life before I could pick him up again. I had him 12 years before he died of old age.
I understand this worry, i hate leaving my rabbits fir any reason. At least you could comfort him, and make him realise he was with you for life. Our animals are so most important 💖
So so sad. I could never do this. When your pet gets old and not so healthy, thats when they need you the most, and they deserve love and care

So very true. I had sister black labs. At 13 Tipper was dying and I laid with her all day on Mother's Day as she passed. Then took her to the vet who was kind enough to wait for me. Her sister Skunky was so lost. Constantly searching the home and yard for her. She was doing good until her hips were going. My son's lifted her every day and night. Then one day she collapsed in yard. My son carried her in and the vet was called. The vet just said it's time. She's tired and shutting down. It's heartbreaking but it's family. You stick to the end. 😢😢

Years ago I had adopted a 13/14 year old (they didn’t know her exact birthday) golden retriever before she was brought to a shelter because her owner was an older man who was moving out of state closer to his family and couldn’t take her with as it was on the 3rd floor, no elevator, and she had arthritis in her hips. We found out about her via a friend who was the dog groomer for her. Her owner was devastated at the thought of putting her in a shelter which is why the friend called us. She was the sweetest thing and I couldn’t say no after meeting her. We had just over a year with her and it was absolutely worth it. Even when she could barely move on her last day, she still wanted to play fetch with her ball. All she had was love to give and I like to think we made her last year a good one.
My senior pug was 16+ and he passed away peacefully at home. I had him since he was a puppy. I told him whenever he was ready to let me know. I would never even think of surrendering him to anyone. This is/was his forever home.
Our Beagle lived to 20 or 21. We adopted her at 5-6 years old from SPCA. She'd been rescued from a horrific basement "breeder". She was fine until she had a stroke. R.I.P. sweetie!
There is a growing awareness in Australia regarding the adoption of older dogs especially amongst older people. When you are in your 70’s and 80’s it’s simply not fair to adopt a puppy but you can make the last few years of an elderly dogs life wonderful.
Every dog deserves a warm and loving home.

Aww, that's a wonderful movement! I've been thinking about the same thing for cats, that in my later years when I don't have energy for younger cats, I'll work to give senior cats who just wanna chill a good home.
My grandparents (81 & 83) recently adopted a puppy. I love that they have found a fur baby but it saddens me to say that the puppy will probably outlive my grandparents. My grandparents may still be around in another 15 ish years and may even pass with the pup, but still, it hurts my heart to imagine the puppy wondering where his mama and papa are 😢Luckily my uncle whose living with them is also growing super attached to pup so maybe he'll be okay...
It's not that simple. I'm 77 and last year adopted an 8 month old puppy that needed a home, from an older couple. Husband was dying, wife was beginning to suffer from dementia. I had the same concerns about my age and Stella's lifetime, but figured out I could "pre-arrange" a home for her with a friend and write funds for her medical care into my will. I already had an older dog, 13 year old Lily. It has worked out great so far. Lily has helped with her training (taught her to swim, which she is extremely enthusiastic about!) and just made her relaxed and comfortable here, and her bounciness has perked up both Lily and me. Not at all averse to getting an older dog, just think there are ways around what happens if the "owner" dies first.

My dad dumped my childhood dog off at a shelter without telling anyone once she become elder. He didn't let me say goodbye, he didn't let me hug her, kiss her, SEE HER. NOTHING. I will never have respect for people who do this to their pets. She was family and it still hurts to this day.

I had no contact with her since she took my 15 years old dog to vet and put down without telling me.
I started high school I started to treat her like she was piece of s**t and lost my respect for her.
As a long time Golden owner, this is devastating to see. I'm so angry that this beautiful dog was neglected in her senior years (and perhaps for longer than that). Do these ex 'owners' even realize how blessed and lucky they were to have a Golden alive and healthy at 14 yrs old? Sophia fought all the odds, cancer-free at a ripe age, only to be dumped in her most golden hour. I am just grateful that she's in a good home now and she has someone to care for her and give her all the love she deserves. I fear so much that the uptick in shelter dumps will continue as all the pandemic pups will age and the people that got them on impulse will look for a way out of their commitment. My heart goes out to the rescue groups. I donate whenever I can and have rescued several times as well. ❤
I agree. My golden passed at 15, it was hard to let go of her.
My golden boy passed at 12, part of me died with him.

Maybe someday you’ll have a financial or health crisis that challenges your blithe presumption of unlimited resources for pets. This issue really speaks to the reality of two Americas.
@@e23779 These owners said they were dumping their dog because "we're moving and can't take her". Sorry, but I plan ahead and if I can't afford long term care of either pets or children, I don't have them. I proactively chose not to have children for one of these reasons. My dogs have insurance and a savings fund that will care for them for their entire lifetimes. I am in my 40's but if I unexpectedly die, there are plans already in place for them.
Too many people don't understand the responsibilities we take on when we have kids/pets. Yes, there are outlier circumstances we can't control, but dumping your senior pet is rarely a true life emergency and more of a convenience issue, the fact that the dog isn't "fun" anymore and can't do the things it used to, and not wanting to deal with end-of-life costs/mortality. Again, people should think ahead - if you can't afford it, don't have pets. Pets aren't mandatory.
I can't imagine driving around to multiple shelters looking to dump my neglected senior dog that I had since she was a puppy (these owners said they had her all her life, so she was likely purchased from a breeder). They didn't even call rescue groups or shelters ahead of time, they were just looking to unload her on-the-spot. Her skin and nails were in horrible condition - no excuses with this one.
I have a lot of empathy for people who find themselves in true unexpected life emergencies, and pets can certainly be responsibly rehomed, but as a whole, I feel like we have become a disposable society when it comes to pets, senior citizens and sometimes even children. I have been a full time carer for my dad after his 2 strokes, I have only the number of dogs I am able to give quality care for, and I've worked and volunteered with shelters. It's hard and humbling work and my life isn't roses, but it's a commitment I honour - because I chose it.
@@Kristin2885 exactly! In addition, they said the owner had no emotion surrendering their dog! The first time I had to kennel my dog I cried non stop during my trip.
When you take on the responsibility of taking care of a pet it is a lifetime commitment!!! My pup is going on 17 and I hope he lives for ever, I would & will do anything to insure that he has the best life for as long as he lives!! This pup deserves to be loved and even though it sounds like she was neglected, I'm sure she still loved her family BUT it was a one way street! Shame on them for not taking steps to ensure this pup was looked after properly. These stories break my heart and I hate that there are not more protections in place for th se beautiful creatures.
I agree! There should be laws, where they can't adopt again. However that won't keep them from purchasing a dog. My dogs all lived until their final days. I have a toy breed who's 12 years old, and can't fathom her departure, when her day comes. I promised to love her , protect her, abd care for her. I've had many financial setbacks in my life, and never once thought I'd abandoned my dogs. They love us no matter what, rich,poor, beautiful, or not. Whether we live in a box or a mansion. What more loyalty than this.
@@waltervega8730 Amen, my pup is approaching 17 and I'd live in my car or a tent just as long as He was by my side & happy! 7 years ago he needed an operation to remove a tumor from his paw. I wasn't working, but I found a way to pay his $3000.00 bet bill! He is number 7 of my rescues and They all lived long & healthy lives. That being said, it's because of them that I am living a long happy life!!
Friends Forever rejected a stray dog we found in the highway. REFUSED to take him. We brought him back home, got him that treatment and that was 9 years ago! He has been the best dog.! Our initial shock and anger at the rejection was actually one of the biggest blessings!!

I'd live in a tent in the woods before I would dump our dogs somewhere. They are much beloved members of our family.
This is so heartbreaking; how can you live with a dog for 14 years and then surrender it to a shelter and walk away? When your dog is older is when they need us the most. I can't imagine spending my life with my two dogs and then dumping them when they get old; my dogs will always have a home with me, and I will be with them at the end of life, no matter how painful it is to say goodbye. But it sounds like this "owner" didn't even care about her dog being sad at the loss of the only home she's ever known. I wonder how this woman will feel when her family drops her off at a nursing home when she's old because they can't be bothered to take care of her? Karma.

Honestly, as awful as the owner was for giving up the dog, it sounds like it was for the best, considering the condition the dog was in. She went to people who are prepared and knowledgeable enough to care for her and love her until her new fam came to get her. ❤

People just don’t realize what abandonment does to them. Some people just don’t understand when they have gold. They never deserved her. Sophie deserves much better and is in great hands. Just time and patience, she will understand that she’s safe now. I would take her in a minute, no hesitation at all. I take my hat off to those who work at animal shelters and do what they do. She will get adopted right away. God bless

Just heart breaking. My wife and I have 3 dogs (one of which is a goldie we just got as a pup 4 months ago) and 10 cats. None of them will ever be abandoned. They will always be with us wherever we go.
This makes me so sad, because I know how my dogs would feel if they were abandoned.

Considering the dog showed signs of neglect, wondering if it belonged to someone else in the family who was no longer around. Sounds like the person never cared for the dog. Regardless, moving isn't a reason to get rid of an animal.
My husband and I adopted a 12-year old Pomeranian 3 years ago that was dumped at the shelter with mange, very little fur, and rotted teeth. She only has 2 teeth now, her tongue sticks out, she gobbled down food whenever she gets a chance, and now has a beautiful coat of fur. She brings us so much joy! She is a 15 year old princess that spends her days, either being a funny little goofball, or sleeping on the back of the couch in as many blankets as she can find. She deserves everything in the world! I have such a soft spot for old doggies in my life. They are the angels leaving the earth soon; all they want is to cuddle next to you. ❤
My heart breaks for beautiful Sophia! Getting an animal is similar to having a child in the way that you are responsible for it no matter what and it's a lifelong commitment.
The only thing that makes me feel better about all this is that the owner probably wasn't nice to Sophia for a long time. This gives her a chance at having a nice rest of her her life.
I am so glad sweet Sophia has been adopted. I lost my golden girl 2 years ago at the age of 21. I was ready and willing to hop in the car to go get sweet Sophia myself and give her the love and care she deserves for her final years. I hope sweet Sophia has a long, happy life and makes 21 like my sweet girl did ❤
You are so lucky! We have never had any golden, and we've had 3, make it past 12. I don't have a dog now because of that, can't handle any more loss, besides I'm old, too, and my number might get pulled any time now.
@@williebeamish5879 I’m so sorry! We gave her lots of love, plenty of fresh country air, Purina dog chow and routine vet care. Someone dumped her as a small puppy on the side of the road. She was a purebred golden, most likely the runt and didn’t sell so they got rid of her. The vet said she was about 10-12 weeks when we got her. She didn’t have any health problems except some minor arthritis once she hit 16-17 which is expected.
You could always foster for a golden rescue. Then you can surround yourself with such sweet dogs but don’t have all the commitments of owning a dog. Rescue’s are really hurting for fosters. It also means more dogs can be saved from shelters. By being in a foster home the dog has a higher success rate for adoption as they get to really show their personality. Being able to say for sure what a dog’s temperament is really helps potential adopters. Also, by placing more dogs in foster homes it means the rescue has more space available to save another dog from a high kill shelter.
We adopted a 12 yo little dog in July 2020. First dog for me. Now he is slowing down but enjoying his best life

Our newest rescue was dropped off because she barked so much neighbors called the police. Since we've had her, she rarely barks. Wonder why? Maybe because she lives in the house with us, has the company of other pets, gets lots of walks and other attention. She's smart as a whip and loves everybody she meets. Previous owners didn't deserve her--their loss.

That’s an extremely fucked thing to say especially given the likelihood that they are probably already aging and in crisis. Wishing ill on a human being really speaks to the twistedness of people who put other species above our own. I hope you get the help you need for whatever made you that way.
No words can express how much I love my two dogs. They love me back just as much as I love them. I can't think of anything that would make me abandon them. This is heartbreaking!

I’m so glad Sophia is lucky enough to be freed from this awful woman. The report said she was neglected, so this lovely dog is so much better off with the vet who will no doubt do a better job of taking care of her.

I get emotional when ever I leave my dog somewhere he cries but I always go back and he is so happy to see me it makes me so happy.
We just lost our 14yo lab. The last months we had to help him up and outside and back in. We had to be very patient bc he just couldnt move very well. We loved that guy and when the time was here, we had a vet come to the house, fed him his fav, peanut butter and gave him a loving send off. I cant imagine what he would have felt if we had dumped him.. omg, the thought makes me tear up.

This is so heartbreaking 💔 l couldn't imagine ever abandoning my dogs. 1 passed nearly 15yrs old and his sister is still going strong. That dog was adorable and so happy to hear a Vet has given her a home. It's heartless to abandon any animal.

If you start doing that , way more people will just abandon them in the woods or the side of the road. The dog apparently got adopted and lived happily with other dogs in her new house.
She wasn't a family member. Fleas, bad skin, unkempt nails, and stuff like that were all observed on this dog. The owner never loved her.
All Pets need and should require the Owner to have a License, which is updated annually and all Breeders need to be Licensed.
Its far to easy, there needs a cooling off period and a commitment process which all helps ensure that the person
really wants the animal and its not just a whim or spur of the moment thing.
So many Humans are completely dysfunctional that they have no idea or rational of what is involved in having a
Pet, even more so if that Pet develops problems or health requirements.
Its not the Animals that are the Problem here its the Humans.

They said her nails were so long they were starting to curl under themselves, her skin was bad, she probably had bad allergies that were never addressed? I'm willing to bet this dog was once somebodys that took care of her? These people probably acquired her through the death of a close friend of family member? So no real attachment was ever made maybe?
@@e23779 my thoughts exactly. "pending move" could mean nursing home or assisted living, we don't know. I've had multiple elderly dogs in my life and they are a lot of work. If someone can't even take care of themselves how are they supposed to take care of another living being.

This is why I've always rescued senior dogs and cats... there are way too many of them, and I just want to be there for them... to live out the rest of their lives with quality food, loads of love, and the routine care and maintenance many of them never before received.

Whoever dumped Sophia clearly did her a favour if they were neglecting her already. I had two cats, one died after 14 years, the other more recently after 16 years with me, I cry every time I think of them, so to dump a pet is something I could never consider doing.

Absolutely heartbreaking. What kind of person can do that to an animal that has given them nothing but love for the past 14 years? This is so heartbreaking! Dogs are royal and faithful; and they love you unconditionally regardless if you are poor, ugly or mean. They dedicate their whole life to you. You will never be loved more by anyone else. How can anyone be so cruel to abandon a pet after sharing so many good memories? 😢
