Armor of Hexes actually is a 50/50 chance of missing. A 4,5, or 6 makes the attack miss, and it’s always on. It’s arguably the best defensive ability in the entire game.

My current character in a campaign is a changeling hexblade warlock. Took mask of many faces invocation. He is essentially a magic spy that can change his clothing, outfit, and weapon on a whim.

Another cool thing you don't have to just choose the Raven Queen maybe a shadow dragon or Creature from the shadow fail always thought of a cool concept of the shadow dragon that was a silver dragon as the patreon

My husband listens to William and Tom on Dude, Could You Imagine? and the Will vs. William debate was mentioned there-and we have actively been trying to shift to William ever since! (We talk about all of the various podcasts/RUclips channels often in our house🤣) Start using your name William! I don’t think it’d shatter anyone’s view of the show! 😊

My favorite thing about Hexblade is the ludicrous static damage you can get: 1-5 from Cha as your attacking stat, 2-6 from your hex, +1 from Improved Pact Weapon, 1-5 extra necrotic from Cursed Blade, and 1-5 extra psychic from Maddening Hex as a bonus action if you're feeling cheeky.

    • @zombiemanjosh
      @zombiemanjosh 2 года назад

Forgot to throw in my min-maxed, pure bs, DM annoying, hyper dpr nonsense.
Use Pact of The Blade to forego the usual weapon restrictions, grab/conjure a halberd and get an eldritch claw tattoo. Takes a round or two to set up, but with the eldritch claw, hex, and hexblade's curse you're doing 1d10+2d6+17 from 20ft away, 1d10+2d6+22 if you can use your bonus action for Maddening.
      20-25 *MINIMUM* damage per hit

In 2022 I've become fully sick of the Hexblade. It's all that any of my players ever want to play when they go warlock, I don't think I've gone more than a few months in the past 4 years without SOMEONE going hexblade. Not a single one of them has actually been interested in their patron being a shadowfell force, they all just wanna be a magical stabby grimdark.
If someone actually went fiend or archfey or genie or literally ANYTHING else I think I might weep tears of joy at this point.

As soon as you get to pack the blade get ready to see a whole bunch of great weapon master and polearm master in dealing so much damage that you are afraid to put your big bad evil guy on the board first have fun dealing with the 120 average damage at higher level it's a fun subclass

I use the mage armor invocation. No spell slot required. Using spells to buff my Hexblade and just focus on ass-kicking is so satisfying. The way it’s meant to be played imo.
Shield, Mage armor, hex armor, amor of Agathys etc…

I think the idea of a book of updating from previous editions would be so awesome. I know yall love 4E, but I cut my teeth on 2e and 3.5. Hexblade was a 1-20 class in 3.5 out of the complete Warrior and it was all about dropping that Hexblade Curse. Then the 3.5 Warlock had an invocation called hideous blow that let you drop an eldritch blast into a melee attack. I feel like so much of the bones of DND should not be discarded in new editions, the more you understand the better you can adapt as a DM. I think that Hexblade really has strong roots, and that edgy overtone should not just be a gish by another name.

I have a feeling that if the designers could go back with their current knowledge, they would have not given hexblade the charisma for weapon attacks part but instead made that something all pact of the blades get at level 3, much like how you can use intelligence for weapon attacks if you are willing to invest 3 levels in artificer

William, I’m a Michael who prefers that to Mike. I understand your preference.
That said my Fiend Warlock worked great with the Blade Boon. Pumped DEX and CHA as a Mark of Shadow Elf with the Revenant Blade feat and a Double Bladed Scimitar let me be quite good as a damage dealing Gish build.

In terms of not holding yourself to the Raven Queen, my favorite character has a 2 level Hexblade dip and wields a "Revenant Blade".
Essentially, he and his ship's crew of semi-monstrous humanoids (dragonborn, tieflings, half-orcs, etc) were betrayed by xenophobes, with many crewmates killed or scattered to the winds. Character turns this into being a Conquest paladin trying to forge a Roman-esque empire where semi-monstrous folk can live away in security.
He gets word of one of his close former crewmates and goes to seek her out. Whereas he leant into an iron fist of order, she leaned hard into bitter vengeance. Casts a ritual to seal her soul into a dagger to give the power to kill those who betrayed her. Character tries to stop her, but she goes through anyways and forces him to swear to help her kill their betrayers. Her soul gets forged into this Revenant Blade, which borrows flavor heavily from the Revenant creature.
He still uses his primary weapon, but keeps this sentient and wrathful dagger as a "cutscene weapon" to deal the deathblow to the perpetrators of their betrayal. Has to struggle with the fact that the blade is much more evil and bloodthirsty than the woman he remembers, particularly because while he is a Conquest Paladin, he is definitely more Lawful Neutral than firmly Lawful Evil. Hard for him to come to grips if the ritual just made this evil dagger that speaks with the voice of his old friend, or if his friend really became this twisted herself in her vengeance.

Finally!! I actually hold this subclass in my top three for 5e. I have always loved stories with sentient weapons and young heroes making pacts with them. There is something classic and yet always unique about that kind of tale. Brian you need to stream a campaign with that character and William your warlock is not someone to take lightly either. Great job as always.

Just responding to Brian's question in the sapphire dragon episode the reason why people like to play second in chess is because you can plan out your moves according to the opposition while with the first move there's a lot you can mess up and it can be over in be over in 2 moves moves if you are not careful
