I’ve had a set of the same Knipex cutters for about 20 years. They are very well made and long lasting.
I would say they are massive overkill for a domestic electrician. As an industrial electrician they have been extremely good for me, cutting everything from 25mm through to 70 mm cable. They also strip up to 185mm cable quite easily.
It depends on what your work entails, but for much larger diameter multi strand cable and considering I’ve given mine 20 years of use I think they are tremendous.

How are you cutting 70mm with it? He struggled here on 25mm and had to use two hands....don't seem like they're worth it since they're essentially expensive glorified shears that you can buy for 20 quid.

@@electricalstuff259 I cut 70mm tri rated cable quite easily with them. I’ve been cutting everything from 25mm to 70mm for 20 years with them, with no problems. Considering I paid 30 quid for them 20 years ago and they are still going strong I consider that a good value/quality tool. They are also good for various types of multi core and SY cable. What I wouldn’t use them them on is solid core or steel wire armoured.
Nothing glorified about them IMO, they work well and are comfortable to use.

The polished chrome plating makes the Knipex pair harder to cut with. Chrome plated heads always take significantly more force to cut with. But if you live in a region of the world with salty air it is better than having your tools need constant oiling. For everyone else it's better to get the non-chrome plated versions, much easier on your grip at the end of the day.

So the problem is you using it wrong... the first blade section is for cutting through the isolation first and the second section is for cutting the cunductor. It means these pliers are designed to cut in two steps. I mean try it and you will see the difference. So in my first days i also think that i must cut directly with the second section but later i learn to use it right. These pliers a specialy designed to cut larger diameters, thats the only reasons why these have that large blade. If you only want to cut smaler cables try the stepcut.
