I would love to hug one of these beautiful cows
Theyre soft to touch when theyre little
How many acres of land do you need

I think they're actually considered a tri-purpose breed. Meat, milk, and fiber. Their fur was often spun into textiles and it supposed to be very warm.
Thats cool I didn't know about the use of their hair
I know the birds and squirrels around my place are aware of that. We see some interesting nests after the cattle shed.
I love their emo hair!!! My favorite cow!! 😭❤❤
I’m usually afraid of cows but these cows are so adorable!!
Afraid of cows? They're 1 million percent docile. Pet them, talk to them, play fetch with them. They're like a giant hooved dog
cows are sooooooooooooooo gentle for the most part!
I know, it's because before the 😊1999 hundreds there weren't any of those hairy things around. Genetics these day you can get a whole herd pregnant with theses and after to2 summers your entire stock is changed
The view looks so peaceful
I just love these babies. I'll never be able to have a large animal like this but all of you allow me to enjoy them
The first thing that comes to my mind when I see these cows of yours, I just want to HUG, KISS and SQUEEZE each one of them!🥰🤗😂 I'm so impressed how you go to your desk job, which I'm sure can be very stressful at times, and then come home to want to care for these beautiful animals! Hats off to you! 👏 Thanks for sharing them with us!😉
I had a few in the area last year, the calf became friends with me instantly.
Like instantly. He ran to me like we knew eachother as best friends and haven’t seen eachother in a long time, and there were enough other people around
This was so relaxing to watch
Love the. Looks of these cows.
Obviously you’re a game of thrones fan...I love it! I live on a farm in Illinois. We just sold our cows. I want Highlands next round

Just found your channel today. Really enjoying the videos. I live and work on a small pedigree Highland Cattle breeding farm in the Highlands of Scotland (one stock bull, six breeding cows and their offspring). I share your passion for these wonderful animals!
Thats awesome, I would love to see them in Scotland one day. Cheers!
Oh how lucky are are you. I'd love to visit Scotland. I think the white with black nose and ears are pretty.
They seem very docile.
I have watched many of your videos over the last few months. Your videos are so informative & you have a special way of presenting information & great camera expertise. Scottish Highland cows are beautiful & I appreciate being able to learn about them from your experience & videos.

Howdy -my name is big sky I come from Montana and Chad from Adler farm sent me over here so I’m really interested in looking at your acreage in your Highlands… We had a place south of the town called the Ayrshire dairy and they have some beautiful animals out there course that was about 50 years ago when I was a kid in Montana while I was 20 then… And actually when I moved here to Connecticut Valley had to leave our dog Scooby Doo was the name of our little dog we had to leave him so we took them out and the folks at the Ayrshire dairy took him and raised him and kept in contact with us and so that was real nice of them anyways I’m glad to be here and I’m glad Chad sent us take care.
I just sub cause you teach us about them and my Ancestors lived in Scottland and surrounding area.
Beautiful cows . Thank for information about Scottish highland cow.Keep up the good job.

Chad from Adler Farms said we should check you out.
Great info! Love your knowledge sharing…. Looking forward to more! God bless you and your family!!!
I love Highlands and Chad’s June Bug is my favorite cow over there and he said we should check you out so here I am
The Dossan is the name of the hair over their faces to protect their eyes. It can be combed, also, just not bangs to be trimmed.
Oh wow, I didn't know that's what it's called! Great info!
Beautiful animals. I've got a big canvas painting of a Highland Cow in my kitchen. I was drawn to it but had to look up what type of animal it was. I would love to see what a baby calf looks like.
The highland calves are real cute, just fuzzy baby cows without horns yet. Ive got some new videos of calves that were just born
@@100AcreWoodHighlands ....
The calves are so cute. I've come across videos of them here and they are adorable. That's where the Higland calf that was a white vor with black ears and nose with black socks. It was too cute.
I'd love to have a painting of one.
@100 Acre Wood Highlands
I just came over here from the "Adler Farm" page.
I've been trying to figure what the long haired cow is called for years!
I have subscribed and can't wait to learn about highland cows. Thank you for being here!
If you can find d the channel there is o e called Highland Cattle Company that you might want to watch. First time I ever saw this breed was in the show Outlander.
So cute! Thanks fpr sharing!
they are beautiful! ❤❤❤
Love ur videos 🖤🖤🖤
I don't milk ours, but have checked to make sure one of our cows was producing. She was loose, and let me get a few tugs in before she walked away. She was producing.
Great video! I would love to add these to our farm one day!
great videos! peaceful!
I wanna pet all of them and cuddle 🥰
Just love your videos!!!!!!!!
Enjoyed the Video and History & Color Information. I've been raising Highland and Belted Galloway cattle in Upstate New York since 2006 starting with 3 females and maxed one Summer at 63. The Breed is full of Characters and Colors all are unique in some way. They are TOUGH & Climbers too! Great narration and camera work!
Wow 63, thats a pretty good fold of them. I got to drive through some of upstate NY a few years ago. Very pretty area
Coming from the Scottish Highlands that would possibly be a natural instinct. I hope they don't become extinct in the Highlands. But I've never been to Scotland. First time I had even seen this type was in the show Outlander, the cattle that broke the prison door down. I had to research what kind of cattle they were. The Belted Galloway are they the ones that are Black with white " circle around their shoulders.
Just subscribed. Beautiful cows!!
My wife and I would love to have highland, she wants a little one and watch it grow. Only 1 problem, we don't have a place to have one. Little big to have it in the house like a dog/cat. Not sure how the neighborhood would appreciate that. Kids would I'm sure. I used to work on a farm. Hogs, cows, chicken, etc.
I actually hear of you in a roundabout way originally from “Cog Hill Farm” Cheers and happy new year 🥳
Really that’s cool, I’ve seen some of the Cog Hill videos but didn’t know they knew about me. Happy new year!
I would think about having these
So beautiful. What a relaxing video to watch out on the back swing. Here’s a question for you. You seem to breed these with the intension for beef. Why do you name them? Is that any more difficult for you? Or do people usually name their beef cattle? Or do you strictly breed them to sell calf’s to other homesteaders?
Great question, we do raise some for beef. Those that are for beef we do not name, the ones that have names are intended to keep and breed. Although the majority of our calves go to hobby farms to be raised for pleasure, not for beef.
I wanted a few SH's for PETS... I think they're so cute. Love the ASOIAF names. Seeing as how I'm using one now. Having a multiple hair types layered = fur. Primates have hair... we have different types in different areas but it's 1 layer. 1 type of hair. The longer hair is guard hair and the shorter layer insulating.
Great video! Just got our fist 2 highlands. A breeding pair. I can't wait for them to let me get closer. We just uploaded the first video of many. Keep up the good work!
Nice Im sure you're going to love them. They should warm up to you pretty quickly
Thank you! Hopefully I'll learn a lot and be as informative in my videos as you are! I can tell you're very passionate about your fold. I'm sure we will be as well.
@@brightspringhomestead3139 .....
Do you have to have them like brought over from Scotland ? I live in The city and am too old to care for land and all so I watch everybody else on yt. It's much better than the gloom and doom channels.
I also have Highland Cow socks and a Highland Cow hoodie and Highland Cow T-Shirts and Highland Cow pjs which are shorts and a matching top just like a T-Shirt ...
I love your videos. You are so cute! 🥰
I’ve read that they’re milk 🥛 is nice and thicker then jerseys and makes excellent cheese. Can anyone vouch for this? I want to get one as a duel purpose.
Do you have issues with cockleburrs? My highland cattle have burrs all over especially their head.
I live in the Texas Panhandle area and our summers get into the 3 digits a lot. And we are so dry most of the time. We get very little rain or moisture. I don't knowbof anyone here in the Tx.panhabdle that has Highlands. Most of Oklahoma gets more rain than we do.
Is their hair like wool?
I know most baby mammal's are cute but highland calves are unreal .... they really do look like stuffed animals
❤
I didn't realize they came in so many colors. I've been watching another RUclipsr they have black and red. I thought it would be fun to try to predict the color of the four caves. I did reasonably well with my prediction of three black one red, reality produce two of each.
With all the colors you got I would have to sit down with pen and paper and figure it out, and even then it would probably take a few generations for me to figure out what all them colors are doing.
nice channel...
Is White Walker Mc Fred's father ? If so I see where he gets his gentle side . Love the White Walker name . Was that maybe from a Raw Hide show ?
Yes White Walker would be McFred's Sire
I heard you mention you're in Oklahoma, where do you tend to market these Scottish highland cattle in our fine state?
in Philippines we also a Dwarf Carabao, the Tamaraw.
Dwarf carabao look cool!
@@100AcreWoodHighlands .....
I've never seen one. Wow.
I have a Scottish Highland Coo as there known in Scotland.... You can buy them.from.Temu ....
Adler farm sent me Hello
Gosh what would you get if you bred a Scottish hyland with a Hereford?? That ought to be interesting!!! 🤗
I don't know, but I do have a highland Angus cross. He is basically a black less hairy bull calf with no horns
That's a good calf right there s not scurrrd AT ALL! licks a pet lick no problem!
we love short colored boios.
0:29 They... have beef...
😆💜
Winter is coming
Do you know if their milk is easy to digest? I know the a2 cows milk is easier the regular cows milk.
I've had some other people ask me if highlands are A2 and I really don't know
Such lovely cattle! What's their temperament like, in your experience?
In general they are very docile. But I have had one hit me with her horns and they do fight each other occasionally. They are normally super great to be around, but still have to be careful
@@100AcreWoodHighlands .....
I think that would be with any type of cattle.
is there nay market for their horns so they contribute without being killed?
A red cow named Sansa and one named white walker. Asoiaf fan spotted.
This guys sounds an acts like Michael Scott from the office
Cheese have you ever had any cheese from Highland cows? Can it be bought ?
The dun colored one looks like it hasn’t eaten in a while
Why is the back of your hats always got a big hole ? Just wondering
Air vent lol just kidding. It's just old and wore out
@@100AcreWoodHighlands .....
And most likely comfortable....lol
So how much does a mature cow weigh?
Wikipedia says 500kg and bulls 800kg.
They are not cow's, they're coo's.
Yes, but habits are hard to break lol
No!
*They're* Hieland Kye
It's a hieland coo/cou
Scotland 🏴 is not a little bit cool n wet. It is freezing 🥶 and very wet.
Not quite as bad as that , yes wet in the west , nae sae much in the east .
I’m scotland there’s only brownish colours
Not where I live there's not. A farm up the road has Highland Cattle which come in multiple shades!
@@Ann-my1dg They are cross breeds, the pure breed highland is only red, and they cross breed them for a better and newer gene pool. But that isnt necessary in Europe, but when you only breed with bulls, it is sometimes better to make a cross breed and use another breed bull on the highland.
Beautiful cows! We had 1 bull calf born on Easter and 1 born 3 days later. Do you have any tips on taming them? Are they too old by now? We have a super chill 4 yr. old bull (we didn't raise.) Is that a trait they're born with or is it taught?
You can learn to halter break them possibly. It takes a lot of time and patience but it can be done to help get them settled down. I just try to spend a lot of time around mine and give them treats. Some are still pretty skittish
@@100AcreWoodHighlands one more question 😊 At what age do you suggest halter training?
I'm in Oklahoma city where are you? Id love to order some beef from you also cream and milk if possible.
Did you know «Сольцы» (soltsie) means “sun” in Russian?
We have 20 hiland cows we’ve got a black one
Hi I took a drive through the country last week and noticed some 'hairy cows'. After I got home I looked them up and discovered they are Highlands. I am planning on moving to a homestead in a couple of years, this breed may just be the hardy 'lower' maintenance breed that would fit nicely into my plans. Can you let me know the minimum number to start a herd? Maybe go over the start-up cost and ROI? Thanks! My goals are to become net positive with each enterprise on the future farm / homestead. Thanks!!!
Hey Robert, i'm glad to hear that you're moving to a homestead and interested in highlands. They can be a little more low maintenance and are of course awesome looking animals. I started my fold with 4 bred cows. In my opinion its less expensive to start small and grow a fold rather than purchase one. The start up costs can depend a lot on what you already have on the homestead. Is it fenced, are there barns, equipment like tractors and trailers? Also, prices for the cattle can vary pretty greatly depending on whether they are registered or not and where you are in the country.
funk me even cows in Scotland are badass
😉
Hey question....what are highland cows bred for...please don't tell me people actullh eat theses animals especially the babbies
The babies are the best part! So tender...
Why dont U talk about how juicy and tender the meat is? Dont pretend they dont go to slaughter
Oh their meat is excellent, and I do have a video about that
you could make scottish highland cheese! from the milk.
Everyone thinks wagyu & Kobe beef is the best in the world, but I disagree. I think Highlander beef is the best.
A cowpuncher with sunglasses?
One question….why wear the hat for this clip??
Well why not. It's not a movie he's making. Isn't the purpose of these videos just more for information. But I don't know. What difference does the shape of the hat make anyway
Highland bulls with short stature but proven are none as Apple Box bulls...hehe
They look more SHAGGY than fuzzy
I have seen a cow stick her tongue into a nostril. Oh well, Whatever works!
