I agree, you have a fantastic videographer. I am a Wilton Instructor but I am still "hooked" watching other decorator's and their techniques. I love this, you are by far, one of my favorites. Your delivery is flawless. Thank you so much! An inspiration!
Absolutely beautiful!! You are indeed an Artist!! I will never do this, but I love watching someone else make these beautiful cakes. I'm mesmerized with all the flowers. :) I use oil paints on canvas and you use something edible!!
thanks for your input. I am going to try and practice on that. I tried to make rosettes around cake but they were a little crooked so I ended up filling in the whole side with small rosettes. I need to measure with toothpick and maybe it will make it easier for me. Thanks for all you do!!! I really enjoy your expertise and videos/Mary
Royal Icing does get hard. The icing In this video is made with Pastry Pride, or Decorating Buttercream is also in the description section and that would be good for this project. Thanks Liz
This is a great question and a problem for pros and novice alike. Divide your cake into four equal parts, mark with a toothpick. Then use your marking tool in-between. Mark with a toothpick first if you want to double check before making the full mark. Practice garlands on the side of your cake pan. Remember to use pressure control to get the very best shape. Happy decorating,
With Pastry Pride you need to whip it until you get the consistency you want. If you over whip it's too stiff, so it's just a matter of working with it a little. Thanks Liz
I'm going to try this My cakes crumb coated and iced I'm using ground walnuts as center for sunflowers I have a carrot cake with walnuts coconut & cream cheese frosting between each layer I used 3 of the Wliton 6X2 pans I like the thickness of them And I'm practicing Fingers crossed I did cakes all the time in the late 70s & 80s but arthritis has made it really hard to decent looking design So I'm depending on the Russian tips I'll have cake to eat no matter how it looks lol
Hi Maria, if you over whip just add a touch more of the liquid and thin it down. Also if you have hot hands keep your icing chilled before you fill your bag and only add a small amount. It will stiffen and get chunky in the bag. Happy Decorating!
This video was Awesome!!! Thank you for sharing! Can't wait till the next video!!! You are very talented and I appreciate your time in sharing this!! God Bless/Mary
absolutely amazing! you definitely explain things really well! why do you put gel in with food coloring? is this buttercream and gel together? or just gel? would buttercream do the same?
that was amazing! I make only normal ruffles. But this was really helpful. Apart from this can u please demonstrate by one video upload the various piping techniques of different nozzles apart from the rose nozzle if u insist? That would be great.
+JAIDEEP DATTA Actually, we have a 10-Lesson beginning cake decorating course that does just that!! You can find it at www.cakedecoratinginstructor.com Thank you for watching!
Hi Cammy, It depends. sometimes it's something I'm doing anyway, sometimes it's a request from you guys, other times it's just something I'm thinking about. Thanks Liz
The cake is beautiful What kind of food coloring do you use to do the strip ?Will there be a after taste? Sunflowers are a really dark golden yellow Even have rust colored heirlooms Here they are bright golden yellow A pain to farmers A few are planting edible ones like handful I love the way your doing the multi colors The color of sunflower much nicer than real sunflower
Hi Liz I love your videos. How long do you whip the pastry pride for for your decorations. Do you also frost your cake with pastry pride. Do you pastry pride or frostin pride. Thank you.
Hey Liz, Do you have any pictures of your past cakes that you have done. Would love to see a video of pictures of other cakes you have made. You do beautiful work!! Thanks,Mary
My question is on the handy dandy wilton marker. Does it measure equally all around cake? I ordered two 1/2 moon shaped markers for 8-9 inch and the other for 8-10 inch cakes? I am hoping they will measure correctly and evenly.I am not too good at getting garland to come out evenly. Thanks for all you do!! Great looking cakes! Love all your videos/Mary
Hi Liz! I watched your video many times . I follow step by step and still can't make the petals . The first side when I go up is ok but when I going back to the base of the petal looks awful . Do you think a because I am using Chantilly that is 35% whipping creme . It's that the problem ? Btw love this cake
Hi Liz this is Annie here I m really fascinated with your decorating techniques. .. I just had a small question .... if I dont hv airbrush then how should I do that part of coloribg the portion blue.... Thanks
hi - frosting question again. :) do you only use the "better cream" type frostings when decorating?? they look so creamy!! i'm going to try, but i live in florida and wonder, 1) how do they taste; 2) how would they do in a humid climate?? thanks, and love your work!
+Kristi De Hi Kristi, I almost always use it because it tastes great, very light and it works well in heat and humidity. However any icing that will hold it's shape works great with our designs. Another reason I use it personally is that it is easier on my hands :) cakedecoratinginstructor.com
Hi Jaconson68 I have used pastry pride and which one is the one you use to get them to stay like that. I use the pink label pastry pride and it got soft on me.
Thanks for responding, Liz, you were really helpful! I did it, and it came out pretty nice :). Not as perfect as yours, but pretty good ;). Where should I send the photo? Thanks again for your inspiration!
Hi Liz, I love your videos, I've watched so many of them and am working to learn some of your techniques. (Next on the agenda: rose on a stick.) I would like to make this sunflower cake for my sister's birthday this weekend: what size round cake did you use in the video, and what diameter marker for the center of the sunflower? (You don't say the diameter of the marker in the video.) (Or the diameter of the half circle for the arches.) For the sunflower center marker I was planning on using a round cookie cutter - I'm making an 8" round cake - what diameter center for the sunflower would you recommend? I don't think I can fit on an 8" cake as many sunflowers as you did - I'm thinking of making 3 around the rim and one on the top, leaving space for the words "happy birthday" and her name.
Hi Carloline, I think I would use a 2" diameter round for the center of the flower on a round cake. But don't worry about an exact size, these flowers are meant to be large and take over most of the cake. In the video I actually did 3 cakes and I think the one I was working on may have been a 10. Use the triangle method. Mark the points of a triangle on the top edges of the cake then use this mark as the center of each flower. Use a toothpick size mark to delineate where you want your writing to be, this will keep your flowers out of that area. You can also place the center marker half on top and half on the side of the cake. Then your flower drapes over the top and side. I'm sure it will be beautiful however you decide to do it. Happy Decorating! don't forget to send me a photo Please :)
I agree, you have a fantastic videographer. I am a Wilton Instructor but I am still "hooked" watching other decorator's and their techniques. I love this, you are by far, one of my favorites. Your delivery is flawless. Thank you so much! An inspiration!

Hi Tita, the Pastry Pride is just a premixed product. It goes on the mixer for about 5-7 minutes. Thanks Liz

I love your videos and detail, I use pastry pride ones but I think I over whip. How you know the texture you make it look so easy.
Hi Maria, if you over whip just add a touch more of the liquid and thin it down. Also if you have hot hands keep your icing chilled before you fill your bag and only add a small amount. It will stiffen and get chunky in the bag. Happy Decorating!

Wow Mona thanks! Yes Carl is Awesome! Do you teach on line? Liz
absolutely amazing! you definitely explain things really well! why do you put gel in with food coloring? is this buttercream and gel together? or just gel? would buttercream do the same?
Liat k. Hi Liat, the food coloring is a "gel paste" food coloring. You can mix the icing in it for striping or use it by itself.
You piped very good sunflowers, leaves, sunflower seeds, shell boarders, and garlands on the cake! They're very beautiful!
Thank you, I'm glad you like it.
That is absolutely gorgeous.
Kathleen Walden Thanks Kathleen , this is truly one of my favorite designs!

+Olga I Bruno Thanks Olga!
What number piping tips did you use for leaves and petals? Are the tips wilton?
+lulu2224 The tip I used for both is a #124. It's standard in most brands, it's a middle sized rose tip.
Thank You glad you like it. Liz
Amazinggggggg😍😍😍😍
loramora Thanks!
very nice I like it
Liz do you know how to pipe lilac onto a cake? It's my granddaughters birthday and she loves lilac
Amazing :)
What kind of icing are you using?
