I don't have the luxury of taking the tank down so I'm just going to have to play the long game I guess.
My brother had a very simple solution to keep the snail population under control he would crush one snail and drop it to the bottom of the tank for food every day 365 days a year

This works 100%? I bought plants from a store and it ruined my tank, had snails. I pulled my tank apart bleached and boiled everything it took 8 God damn hours and they somehow came back?!? It's seriously as cheap as $5?
It will work for adults but you won’t get the eggs. I would be willing to work they will keep coming back and you’ll never get rid of them with any kind of trap. My 2 cents anyway. Gotta dry everything out thoroughly aquatic snails won’t survive desiccation. Gotta make sure to dry literally everything. 👍

Interesting Video, observed that Danios help in regulating the snail population by eating the really tiny ones. They have been controlling the snail population in a mini pond placed outside. :)
Ive noticed that too, the one exception is with limpets. Those little guys are difficult for fish to peel off the glass because they are so flat! I absolutely dispise limpets 😠
I saw some small clear jelly eggs on a guava leaf i put inside my aquarium. The part of the leaf they stuck to turned orange. Whats weird is I found another one on a guava leaf I put in a separate container where I put my platy for quarantine. So now I'm confused as to what it is since there is clearly no snails in that small container. Is this fungus from the leaf or something?
Hard to say without seeing it. Unless they were taken from an aquatic environment then unlikely they are aquatic snails. More likely some other sort of terrestrial creature such as terrestrial snails, slugs, frog eggs, or as you mentioned some sort of fungus! Hey Will! Thanks for the vid! I'm new to the hobby and was wondering, are snails in general bad for a tank? I thought they ate algae...could there be negatives to them besides over populating a tank? I have two in my tank by accident and am now worried
The main negative with snails is cosmetic. If you don’t mind seeing them then they typically bring more benefit than harm. I typically actually have snails on my setups to help breakdown dead or dying leaves, uneaten fish food, etc.
They DO eat algae and there is always a lot of algae in a fish tank so...they have lots of food! They do not eliminate algae which is what most people think will happen when they have snails. Surprise! They just landed in snail heaven and will propagate all over the place by laying eggs in places under the gravel where fish can not get them. Have fun!

There is another way. Maybe not for everyone. Move all your fish to different tank. If you have CO2. Pump up your CO2 for an hour. This is the way I terminated the snails on my tank.
that happened to me too! The place where I bought my plants said they had quarantined the plants. THEY WERE SO WRONG. Now I have an infestation and my betta just died from the pH level :/
Hello I’ve just got a tank in my room and I am getting my fish on Sunday I have 4 live plants and I have noticed some snails sliding on my glass should I wait until next week to put my fish on it put my fish in with the snails? Plz reply I need to know 😂
Best to let a tank mature for awhile before adding fish. You can go ahead and add them if you have to, just feed lightly and make sure to do regular water changes until your beneficial bacteria colony is established! Good luck!
uh oh! You should be able to do this. Just stay on top of your water changes (perhaps daily), feed very lightly, use some old tank water to jump start the new tank cycle. Test the new tank regularly until a cycle is established.
I hope you see this question! What do you do with the water and substrate that you took out of the infested tank?? Can I put it down the drain? I feel like that’d infest everything 😖
@kitties nd my baby um they arent schooling fish yes they can live together but if u want to keep more than one yes u need a 20 gallon but if u only want one u can just keep in 5 to 10 gallon
@CherriesA They aren't schooling fish. In fact they are territorial fish that you shouldn't keep together. It's like keeping two male betas together. You shouldn't do it.
I dont understand why people want to eliminate the very best cleaners you can ask for....I can see wanting to control numbers, but if you keep feeding to a minimum, birth rates will slow in accordance to the food source the aquarium provides. And Ive got Rams Horns.....if they do start getting too large in numbers, Ill remove them manually. So far that hasnt happened.
I've done that and more. They always came back. I'm thinking one has to throw away all decor. Quarantine fish in a separate tank for at least a month while cycling the original snail infested tank.
So I have four guppies and one snail. My family really made sure that we wouldn't have a snail infestation. But now, one day ago, we saw two baby snails climbing the wall...they were so small!!!!! we took out the babies and put them in jars but r afraid that there r more babies...... We rlly love our original snail and even named it Speedy... if we want to make sure that there are no more babies but not kill Speedy, what should we do????
Hopefully you were able to remove them all! keep a close eye on it for awhile :) If you enjoy having the sail I would recommend setting up a separate tank for the snail to avoid getting an outbreak in your tank again 👍
I don't mind the ramshorn snails in and of themselves, it's the sheer volume that I don't like. But I got some assassin snails and the numbers are on the decline. It didn't happen quickly but it is happening. I'm going to get more assassin snails.
The only way to have snail free plants is tissue culture or dipping and quarantining plants. All plants in the stores have snails. It's just how it is. Nature.
I don't do all that. Salt, common table salt. Take your fish out of the tank, and live plants as well. I leave my artificial plants and plastic decorations in the tank. Pour alot of salt in the tank water and leave it to soak a day or two. Dump the water and rinse well, I find that magic erasers work great on the tank glass. Use an old toothbrush to scrub decorations and that's that. Think about it, what do you have if you take a snails shell off of it? A slug, what dissolves slugs? Yup, salt. Salt liquifies a snail right inside its shell. Dead dead dead. No more snails.
You know I feel like you could make a good buck, you know minus the gravel and stuff, just slap some water back in the tank, let the snails hatch, don't feed them a thing. then take the batch to the local fish store?
i have an insane amount of snails in my 10 gallon with my pearl & opaline gourami (yes i know how it sounds but they actually do well together haha) but the snails are driving me insane because they multiply exponentially (and i do NOT like creatures so small that i can’t see them 💀
I never ever bought snails but all the sudden there are these very small snails out of nowhere first it was a few and I was very confused now they are everywhere what do I do
If you don't want them then you will need to go through the process outlined in the video. They probably came in on plants or other materials you added to the tank. Just one egg is all you need to get them going in a tank 😔
Glad you found it useful! I would take a look at your environment for plants though. Snails are detritivores, this means they only eat dead or decaying organic matter. They don’t eat healthy plants. So something else likely caused your plant to die and the snails just ate the dead/dying plant. Water parameters, lighting, and nutrient availability are the main things to cause plants to die back. 🌱
Help, I’ve cleaned my tank. Boiled my gravel, bleach dipped my items and plants. I have no snails but I’m still getting white eggs appearing on my glass. I have neons, Ottos, rummy nose, harlequins and silver fire fox. Where are these eggs coming from?
I bleached my plants, bleached and boiled my gravel - guess what....12 months laters the snails are back. Nothings been introduced into the take. I give up.
@VB 23 my nano tank is infested with these mini ramshorn bastards. Nothing kills them off. I've use YoYo loaches, Zebra loaches, and Assassin snails and found is these predators prefer larger snails. Mini snails are not their desire.
Just enlist the help of a few puffers. Problem solved naturally.

Get some pea puffers and a few yoyo loaches. They will completely exterminate your snails in a short amount of time.
cool artwork of that tree!
There is another way. Maybe not for everyone. Move all your fish to different tank. If you have CO2. Pump up your CO2 for an hour. This is the way I terminated the snails on my tank.
I never would have thought of that! Makes sense :)
How does that kill them! Sounds easy. Would it kill plants?
@@Tigglebitties it won't kill the plants. The plants love CO2. Just keep the aquarium light on.
This is ingenious
I just starve the limpets out, went from hundreds to a manageable amount that I could just crush or pick out in little over a month
I have a ton of snails and i swear they mess up my pH so much and just make my tank look horrible
Have no fear, you can get rid of them!
catch em and cook them
Loaches eat snails
that happened to me too!
Good luck!
Thank you
how do I know what kind of snails I have?
Do a google search for common aquarium snails a list with photos should pop up. 🌱
What to do call again that small white snails? I have them in my tank aswell.
They are called limpets! I hate those things...
Hey there how’s go with I’m the snails ? And the other question for you. ,how do you like the fluval mano led lights plants spectrum ? Please advise
What did you ask?
Dramatic Experiment oh sorry , I was asking how did you take off the snails in your aquarium
Do you think I could move my betta to a new tank and strip my current tank?
Edit: A bladder snail appeared and now there’s babies, helppppp
uh oh! You should be able to do this. Just stay on top of your water changes (perhaps daily), feed very lightly, use some old tank water to jump start the new tank cycle. Test the new tank regularly until a cycle is established.
i got the same floating plants and they apparently had snail eggs inside of the container and now it’s infested
Oh no!
I hope you see this question! What do you do with the water and substrate that you took out of the infested tank?? Can I put it down the drain? I feel like that’d infest everything 😖
I’ll be honest, I have no clue! But I doubt snails would survive in the drain. Hot water, soap, chemicals. Would by a tough place to survive!
NW Aquahobby Cool, thank you!
OR you can buy a pea puffer and never have to feed him. That would have been a perfect pea puffer tank. Also add an Otocinclus to clean up leftovers.
Thanks for the video, i have a massive infestation of mini rams horn.
Good luck in your fight! You can win! Just need to be diligent 💪
Another simple alternative for lazy people would be to use draft puffer fish they would eat them all in 2-3 weeks
Ive never kept puffers! Ive heard they can be pretty efficient though :)
What type of puffers ? Pea puffer ?
Ya i did that my pea puffer is the best he cleaned my betta tank up in 2 days
So far that hasnt happened.
my name is wil, and i got so confused when you said our name 😂 i took my headphones off like wot
Hahaha 🤣
I've done that and more. They always came back. I'm thinking one has to throw away all decor. Quarantine fish in a separate tank for at least a month while cycling the original snail infested tank.
So I have four guppies and one snail. My family really made sure that we wouldn't have a snail infestation. But now, one day ago, we saw two baby snails climbing the wall...they were so small!!!!! we took out the babies and put them in jars but r afraid that there r more babies......
We rlly love our original snail and even named it Speedy... if we want to make sure that there are no more babies but not kill Speedy, what should we do????
Hopefully you were able to remove them all! keep a close eye on it for awhile :)
If you enjoy having the sail I would recommend setting up a separate tank for the snail to avoid getting an outbreak in your tank again 👍
I have this problem but I have 10 big fish and my tank is 200 gallons
Dude, I'm sorry to hear that....
@@AquariumPlantLab yeah my wood and glass is covered I. Rhem
If you by clean plants from a store instead of ebay plants you all good
Was trying to breed Betta fish got a snail tank instead.
oh no 😂
Is it safe to use in a shrimp tank?
You know I feel like you could make a good buck, you know minus the gravel and stuff, just slap some water back in the tank, let the snails hatch, don't feed them a thing.
then take the batch to the local fish store?
i have an insane amount of snails in my 10 gallon with my pearl & opaline gourami (yes i know how it sounds but they actually do well together haha) but the snails are driving me insane because they multiply exponentially (and i do NOT like creatures so small that i can’t see them 💀
I bought 4 assassin snails, now rescuing the Malaysian and ramshorn snails for use as feeders. Bumblebee snails are a cute addition
Use alge flex it will also kill snails.
They ate all of my plant wished i watch this video sooner:((
Glad you found it useful! 🌱
Get some Clown Loaches or Koi Carp. They love to eat these snails and you'll have none left in your fish tank or pond.
I crush them on the glass and then the fish eat them
You got planarians, too.
Help, I’ve cleaned my tank. Boiled my gravel, bleach dipped my items and plants. I have no snails but I’m still getting white eggs appearing on my glass. I have neons, Ottos, rummy nose, harlequins and silver fire fox. Where are these eggs coming from?
Hard to say without seeing them! Have any snails hatched?
Snails suck Lol. Unless you want them, then they’re cool haha 😂
I think I have the same problem as you
Hey! What happened to the eggs? Are snails back?
Are these invasive snails harmless to plants?
Pretty much! Just an eyesore to some.
They look like herpes but on the bright side. Massive improvement on hair algae control. My rocks are almost clear except with occasional streaks
The ramshorn snails tore up my plants. A nightmare to completely eliminate.
Me: _has snail and loves him_
Also me: watches this vid ;-; oop my child brothers and sisters
😂
Oop :>
These snails are everywhere
They are like an army!
Just a snail for a tank and two more just popped up
Pull them all out now and you might get them under control! You don’t want any eggs!
Will they kill my fishes
Generally nope!
I bleached my plants, bleached and boiled my gravel - guess what....12 months laters the snails are back. Nothings been introduced into the take. I give up.
😢 I feel for you!!!
Assassin snails 😊and anything with copper in it might kill em
You just got schedule every two months or so to clean that tank on a regular basis.
Pea puffers!
Yea buddy!
I just sold my puffers;(
@VB 23 my nano tank is infested with these mini ramshorn bastards. Nothing kills them off. I've use YoYo loaches, Zebra loaches, and Assassin snails and found is these predators prefer larger snails. Mini snails are not their desire.
"How to get rid of snaIls : Destroy the whole damn tank."
Right..
Pretty much, or live with them 👍
Just enlist the help of a few puffers. Problem solved naturally.
i co0ked my gravel cleaned the tank with soap and gravel i super cleaned everything only to find these damn snails somehow survived what the fuck.........
oh no 🤦♂️
I got snails after 2 weeks of having it! Must of been from the fish. 😞
oh no!
Why do you what to get rid of snails snails are endergerd
I’m pretty sure these species of snails are far from endangered.
Yoyo loach can do the job..
indeed!
Isn't there a SNAIL EATER I can just add for a while ????
Snail eaters will certainly help! They are unlikely to completely eliminate snails though. Some types of snails, like limpets, are pretty safe from snail eaters.
Clown Loach
Hey, why don't u just bring your little tank to the tub and spray it with water? Isn't easier to clean it?
Thousands man, thousands.
You can win the fight. I believe in you!
I treat with no planaia to keep snail population in check
Hey I’ll keep that in mind! Thanks for the comment!
Put in an assassin snail for a while and it will take care of it for you!
how do snails get in a tank?
They usually come in as "hitchhikers" on plants, substrate, or in fish bags.
Clown loaches will eat snails as will a few other fish..
This is definitely true! I don't like to buy fish to treat problems though, as I like to keep single species tanks, but this is certainly an option for folks.
Well shoot I was here to kill pond snails but now I feel bad. 🤦🏻♀️
Haha, you don't have to get rid of them! Snails do serve a great purpose in aquariums.
But that's not the only way is it
Why would i wanna getvrid of the adorableness that is baby snails? 🐌
To each their own! I like some varieties of snails but the ones covered in this video bother me for some reason 😂
@@AquariumPlantLab oh XD btw i like ur videos :3
I have alot of snails in my fish tank
Oh no!!!! May the force be with you...

The snails killed ur betta buddy
Ambushed in the night 🤣
Whattttt!!!!! Snail are breeding in my betta tanks ( 2 )
Snails won’t kill your Betta fish :)
I was incredibly frustrated buying new aquarium with 4 live plants as it is my intention to NOT house any creatures to clear my reality space of dual existence liars who I can't stand being too familiar with me on their rude terms, and from PetCo's filthy plant holding tank I had 2 additional snail organisms that illegally used my tank and that will eventually rely on me, steal focus of others, and be burden to me all without my consent. Sorry, but I'm calling, "evicted" I am the main head, and I didn't approve of another season of overconfident maters behind my back, claiming not to know me, never, not on my dime. What relies on me better acknowledge me, because I am the bane of their ushered in existence, more than they ever were alone, and I'm no longer seeing them as anything else than free ride moochers that I owe nothing to, And that they owe me, god made them grovel in this form because thats what they rendered from in my empty tank, and thats not their home, nothing will, because they intruded. I'm not fostering any hell on earth scenario where perceived helpless justify unhealthy codependency on me never learning, never growing, spoiled from me because of their access to the world and its fleeting worldly loyalties, leaving me for false all over again. I know what comes next, and its wiser I'd rid myself of a bad time sooner than later getting falsely over invested.
Are we still talking about snails?
Wtf are you talking about????
