- In small-town Preston, Idaho, awkward teen Napoleon Dynamite has trouble fitting in. After his grandmother is injured in an accident, his life is made even worse when his strangely nostalgic uncle, Rico, shows up to keep an eye on him. With no safe haven at home or school, Napoleon befriends the new kid, Pedro, a morose Hispanic boy who speaks little English. Together, the two launch a campaign to run for class president.

I remember being 16 and going on a date to see this in the theater. I was crying laughing. She never talked to me again. When it came out on DVD i had to buy it and showed it to my girlfriend. We broke up. Now im 36 and my lady and i have been quoting this movie for the last 7 years weve been together. Lol. Some people just get it. Great reaction.
You found your soulmate ❤️
@@lynnc5252 I wonder if it was in a chatroom and they’re soaking it up in the hot tub
Your sandy hair floats in the air... To me it's like a lullaby... I'm just flying by... Oh so high... like a kite...
Gosh...is her name LaFawnduh???
I went on a trip 8ish years ago and I went 300 miles out of the way to stop in Preston Idaho
and check out the filming locations...and get some tots.
Lucky.
The thing that cracks me up the most is that the “popular” kids aren’t really all that. They’re dorks, too. 😂😂
Small towns are like that. The “pretty” girl in a small town is an average girl in a big one.
@@raimeyewens7518exactly 😂
Because Idaho
“Your mom goes to college” use to have me in tears 😭😂
its an attempted burn that comes off as a compliment 😂😭
yeah his face when he says it too 5:53
Whoever came up with that line should be living like a king just off royalties alone. It’s so simplistically stupid it never gets old.
I'm 35 and I still use this line 😂😂😂
Same. My most quoted line😂😂😂😂
4:35 "I'm getting a little low on steak, so I got Lyle coming over tomorrow to take care of it"
I am just now realizing, is that why Lyle executed that cow in front of that school bus?! 🤣
Awwwww 🤔
😮😮😮
wait until you hear and see how it is usually obtained and from whom
but yes
I had a classmate in high school named Pedro and on some days, he would come to class with the Vote For Pedro t-shirt.
As he should
Those shirts made a lot of $ back then as a fad.
My cousins son looks like Napoleon (bless his heart). The movie came out when he was in high school and everyone called him Napoleon Dynamite lol.
People don't realize how accurate this movie is. In Idaho, we consider this a documentary.
That's really interesting to hear, as someone whose not from the USA this movie was quite the oddball back in the day. Usually people used to think of the USA as High School Musical ish place when i was young.
lol thanks for the laugh
@@NK-kr8sj I'd prefer the Napoleon Dynamite version of America tbh
It only helps if you know what a comedy is. These two don't get comedies
I used to live in Rexburg and I completely agree with this sentiment.
The outfits in this movie were outdated even when the movie came out. It's how you know how isolated their town is. Definitely makes the movie funnier, too.
Uncle Rico may have been living too much in 1982, but his outfit hadn’t even caught up to _that_ year yet.
@@0okamino 😂🤣 I was thinking that. My immediate thought was he looked very "70's".
@@Psichotica7 I was in Jr High in the early 80s. All the fashions, motifs, gaudy t-shirts, school binders, etc are all kind of "worst of" from that era. It was a weird time with the worst possible blend of 70s and 80s. Had some awesome music though!
@@norwegianblue2017 Yeah, what I've found is that our general conception of a particular decade really comes from about half way through said decade. Because the first half of any decade is still influenced from the preceding decade. So that would align with what you were saying. Sorry, I hope I explained that well enough.
Many times I've seen a show or movie on tv and assumed it was from the 80's but it was actually early 90's. Just an example.
P.S. I absolutely envy you! I was born '92. What I would give to have experienced the 70's and 80's!
I watched a film called Over the Edge with a very young Matt Dillon from 1979 the other day. Apparently that film is a very accurate depiction of that time. If you're ever feeling nostalgic, give it a watch.
@@Psichotica7 Yes, we are always in a state of perpetual transition. Look at the early 60s vs late 60s. Saw that Matt Dillon film. Pretty accurate about suburban kids doing crazy shit right under their parent's noses who were too busy with their careers to notice. Maybe not so much taking over the town and setting fires, LOL.
Remember that part about the Rex-Kwan Do guy saying they needed a backup, no more flying solo? Napoleon kinda took that to heart when he asked Pedro since they were friends now if he would have his back. Well, at the end of the movie, Napoleon had Pedro's back when he had to dance on stage in front of everyone, not knowing what the reaction would be. Napoleon backed-up his buddy all the way and got him elected.
That is a special moment. Pedro hears the applause and he knows he probably won the election because of his friend, and starts to smile. Great moment👍🏼
One of the best little reveals that everyone misses with Uncle Rico... He says if coach had put me in, in the 4th quarter... Dude wasn't even a starter.
I have never caught that before 😂😂😂😂
The more you watch the movie the more it grows on you. The one liners are hilarious.
"You think anybody wants a roundhouse kick to the face when I'm wearing these bad boys, forgetaboutit"😂
Napoleon was competing in a livestock fair. Towns with a lot of agriculture and ranching usually have these things with the high schoolers. In my town, it was Future Farmers of America. Lots of the kids even raise their own animal for the fair. Chickens, pigs, cows, you name it.
Yup. There is a lot of FFA here in Iowa. My sister took part for a while.
farm (nonhuman) animal* nobody is meant to be stock, that’s objects and plants but yes
@Cassxowary, I'm not sure what you're trying to say.
But why say nonhuman animal? They're livestock. They're delicious.
I was in FFA and went to state milk tasting, and I'm from Western Idaho, not Eastern Idaho like those weirdos ;)
@@CassxowaryIs this meant to make people find animals more endearing? I don’t get your point. Livestock is a perfectly fine term. It straight up just means live animals that someone owns for farming purposes. It’s not dehumanizing or cruel.
His shoes were called "moon boots." Totally an '80s thing.
One of my favorite childhood pictures of myself is me at 5 in the summer time, tank top shorts and moon boots 😅
They’re also kind of ironically rad as hell.
I remember coveting other kids' moon boots.
@@debbyemerson3877mine is flannel coat w red overalls next to a black Santa in 1987 in Brooklyn wearing moon boots😭😭👌
Haha I had a pair of those, and just like Napoleon I would wear them sometimes when it wasn't even snowing out.
I bought a "vote for Pedro" t-shirt and would wear it to work to see who'd get the joke
I had a shirt that said "give me some of your tots" I loved that shirt lol
I live in Idaho and this movie came out when I was in high school and literally EVERYONE wore Vote for Pedro shirts… myself included. 😂
So glad you guys enjoyed this one! I went to a screening of this movie a few months ago that Jon Heder (Napoleon), Efrain Ramirez (Pedro) and Jon Gries (Uncle Rico) were at. They stayed after the movie and did a bunch of fun stuff like trivia and then answered audience questions. They seemed like super nice guys. Fun facts I learned:
-Jon Heder didn’t fake any of the “stunts”. Getting hit in the face by the steak, getting choked out and slammed into the lockers by the bully (who was actually the real life high school bully of the director’s brother), and even having his crotch absolutely destroyed by that bike (he was wearing a cup) were all essentially real because they had such a small budget and everything had to be done practically and with not a lot of thought toward safety.
-Lyle, the farmer with the hard to understand speech, was actually kicked in the head by a horse AND struck by lightning leading to his speech impairments. Also, none of his dialogue was scripted. The director just told him to talk and that’s what they got.
-The thing I was most surprised to find out was that Napoleon’s dance moves were completely improvised by Jon Heder. I thought he legit had a dance coach, but he said that the director and he were friends and he knew that Jon was just a really good dancer.
5:06 - Youre just mad because Kips been chatting with babes, all day
Hot babes😂
I still say "your mom goes to college" to the day lmao.
Litterally still say it at least once a day to someone or something LOL
Same. At least I’m not the only one 😊
I see this film as being almost an autobiographical documentary. The cast includes the director’s relatives, teachers and a neighbor. Many elements are taken from real life, including the film’s title and being the only boy in a sign language class. The behind-the-scenes facts are hilarious.
I live in Idaho for school! Believe me! It feels like I'm in the movie. If it weren't for my school, then it's soooo boring.
Fun fact: The actor who plays Napoleon actually drew those pictures.
People either love this movie or think it's the dumbest movie ever. I love it
The ppl who think it's dumb I want nothing to do with em.
I had a co-worker who thought it was incredibly dumb, yet we talked about it and quoted it all the time…he finally broke down and realized that he really liked it. He had the same reaction about Idiocracy a few years later
I don't understand why people like it, but hey it's their thing, I just happen to dislike it. There is lots of oddball stuff I like that other people find stupid, to each their own.
23:03: Exactly right, Sophie! Same for Napoleon as well. Efren Ramirez (Pedro) was 30 years old when he made Napoleon Dynamite. Jon Heder (Napoleon) was 26.
and they both have twins!
And the actor who played kip (Aaron Ruell) is only a year older than Jon Heder
7:00 "MY other arm" 😂
The best 😂
The guy that played Napoleon Dynamite went to my high school and has a twin brother. Their family is really nice.
“Why is he dressed like Rock Lee”? Lmao
Who’s Rock Lee?
Character from Naruto@@seanabadalich9112
This reaction was hilarious. Y’all were so much fun
When me and my brother were teenagers we both owned a "Vote for Pedro" t-shirt. Love this movie!
The first time I showed my parents this movie they didn’t like it at all…but then they watched it again and loved it lol. Definitely one of my fav childhood movies.
I grew up 10 min south of Preston and my cousin is the bus driver in the film. That cow incident actually happened. I think Lyle was the guy who did it.
So many of these phrases went hard in high school back then, this low budget movie had us in a chokehold hold. I remember rocking the “Vote for Pedro” shirt 😭
All the cool kids did 😂
This movie came out when I was in high school, and it was my favorite for years. It perfectly encapsulates that awkward age, plus it had so many awesome lines.
Still one of my top 3 comedies!!!!!! I die every time Uncle Rico throws the steak at Napoleon 😂😂😂😂😂😂 such a classic. Great reaction
I've grown to love this movie since my childhood when I considered it as odd but enjoyable, the way the movie is shot and filmed just has that nostalgic, school film vibe (in more ways than one) that I really enjoy
It’s such a weird film lool but I love it, so many quotable lines
@@alisoyupak2730 It is quite an odd movie but I rock with it
Such a simple "story" but its just so freakin' good
I used consider napoleon as one of those unrealistic characters in the real world
there is a reason we wore "Vote for Pedro" shirts for 20 years lol. Pedro is a true bro.
I used to have a keychain on my backpack in like the 6th grade that would say Napoleon Dynamite phrases when you pushed a button. This movie is so silly, awkward, and cringe but it's also hilarious at the same time. I'm glad people are still finding this crazy movie.
It doesn’t matter if you both have or haven’t seen a movie before or not THAT MUCH. Gosh! This is the kind of movie you can watch on repeat anyway.
Everybody needs a Pedro in their lives.
The budget to profit ratio on this film was absolutely staggering.
“This is the worst video ever!”
“Napoleon, like anybody could even know that”
There's just something about having lived in that era that makes me get every single nuance of this movie... including the toy out the window
I think we all enjoyed building those sketchy bicycle ramps in the 80s 😂🤣
My family and I ran into Efron Ramirez (actor who portrayed Pedro) hiking in Olympic National Park.
Didn’t recognize him at first. Outgoing and hilarious guy!
The moment LaFawnduh shows up is the best ever 😂🥰
“I caught you a delicious bass”
Seriously, it's one of the funniest movies ever made. Total cult classic. It's funnier the 2nd and 3rd time, and then you find yourself quoting it, and then, if you've been to Preston Idaho, you die laughing every time you watch it. Especially if you were in a small podunk high school in the 80s. You can buy Vote for Pedro shirts at Kohls even today.
This has always been one of my favorites. It's so comfy and being from a small town in Washington but having spent a lot of time in Idaho it's very nostalgic. For better or worse, Idaho is really like this 🤣
One of my favorites and have watched it so many times. Thanks for reacting and sharing your thoughts and reactions. 🤗❤️
The audience for this movie was widespread. All kinds adored it
I remember watching this in 2004, feeling it was already 20 years old at the time. That town sure is a magical place.
Our family loves this movie !my three children learned so much from this of how to be accepting of people not like everyone else . They still refer to Napoleon years later when talking about quirkiness and all their different personalities
If you guys haven't seen Nacho Libre with Jack Black yet, I would recommend it. Same director I believe. Love these films' style of comedy.
I've had diarrhea since Easters 😂
Get that corn outta my face!
This, Nacho Libre, Team America, and Talladega Nights are the Mount Rushmore of perfect stupid films.
Year One
Pedro and Napoleon have each others’ backs.
back in 2004 I watched this movie like multiple times. It was great. It’s so nice to see other people watch it for the first time and discovering it
When this movie came out a lot of people in school were talking about it but I've still never seen it. Watching this makes me want to see it.
Jon Heder is that dude one of my favorite throwaway lines of all time I still use it to this day is "build her or cake or something."
Kip is that dude
I had a house full of teenagers laughing so hard at this movie when it first came out for rental way back. Took me three times to sit and watch it before I could laugh. Told my boys I know you know kids in school like this you can empathize with!
Fun fact, Hilary duff sister, Hailey, plays the hot girl named Summer
i remember I was taken care of the guy that played Rex Quando in the hospital he was stunned and shocked when evwryone told him that we loved the movie. He looked at us like,”Are Y’all serious!”with a straight face.He did’nt know this movie would become a hit.
I remember for years after this movie came out you could see "Vote for Pedro" tee-shirts everywhere.
The way you guys trying be so nice when laughing lollll this movie is sooo fking good GOSH!
I just love the “yoooo what is going on…” nothing is happening yet we’re all laughing 😂 like when you’re super high and just laugh for no reason with someone else who is also high lmao
I’m so glad you guys watched this, it’s one of my favorite movies. Glad you guys enjoyed it !
Napoleon and Pedro are going to be at Mississippi Comic Con June 22 & 23. You know you want to drop everything and go.
Omg, the guy's face when Napoleon puts the tots in his pocket. 😂
They are called Moon Boots. Very popular in the early 80s.
I, LITERALLY, and I mean literally, still tell at least one person a day that their mom goes to college . I'll even just say it completely out of context - I do not care. LOL
if you grew up in a small town this movie is a lifelong favorite.
-Shawsville, Virginia.
The movie is supposedly based in Preston, Idaho @26:00
19:29 The chickens were so loud, I couldn't hear what Sophie was saying 😂
well yah, you’d be screaming too if you were one of them, they’re suffering
You are not a weirdo 🤣😁🤣🤣
This was my hometown haha substitute the llama with a cow 😆
My favorite part is where he ask his buddy about the bike he ask have you taken off any sweet jumps
This movie falls into a category in my brain titled: "What the fudge am I watching and why can't I stop?" It's so crazy that it's perfect.
Napoleon's dance might not be your taste, but it definitely took way more skill than the back street boys dance. And it took guts. He is a weird shy kid and he did that for his friend. The school respected that. I would too.
The best Nerd Dork movie ever .
I love this movie …it’s so funny and unique 😂. Oh yeah…weird too!
“you don’t even know”
the movie came out in early 2000s but it take place in the rural midwest where everything is 10 years behind the times lol.
Idaho is not in the midwest. It’s a Rocky Mountain state
when they filmed the dance, they had enough reel for one take. nailed it first try.
When this came out my 2 daughters new every line of this movie.
*Napoleon:* "I caught you a delicious bass.."*
*Mair:* "Yo, Naploean hasn't CLOSED HIS MOUTH... Since the beginning of the movie!!" 😂😂😂💀💀
Jon Heder went to middle school across the street from where we were living and where my daughter went. Also the dance at the end he improvised I believe.
Y’all gotta react to Nacho Libre next !! It was made by the same people and came out around the same time. Both two of my favorite movies.
Napoleon’s dance is iconic 😎
That steak throwing scene lmao!!!!. The dound of the slap meat, bruhhh
I like this couple and their reaction. They anre pleasant and not annoying. The guy is extra which I am all for it. 😂😂😂 My reaction was the same when I first saw this movie. For a good while I was super confused but it grew on me.
You guys had me dying over here! 😂
My brother in law’s family doctor growing up was the father of the actor playing Napoleon. I always wondered what life was like for the last ten years until he retired after the movie came out. Lol
It cost $200k to film and $200k for the Canned Heat song.
I think the blue jackets are supposed to be for Future Farmers of America. It’s a program in a lot of high schools that promote the kids getting involved in agriculture. A lot of kids who can do so will raise a farm animal, for example.
My favorite part of the movie is Lafawnduh’s family’s reaction to her marriage. It’s like bewilderment and also acceptance because”well as long as he makes you happy” lol
New sub here. I absolutely love the good vibes between you two, and loved your reaction to this crazy movie! God bless!!
LaFawnduh upgraded Kip with the quickness!!! They should do the black wife affect like those tic tocs videos (then and now) i bet they would get a whole generation watching this movie again 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
"He would be the funniest person in like a school in Philadelphia". 😆😆😆
It holds a very special place in my heart.
Election [1999] is an amazing dark comedy centered on a race for student council president in a high school in Omaha, Nebraska.
In real life, Kip is married to Rico's wife.
As a teenager I watched this all the time dying laughing. Brings back so much memories from my childhood.
If anyone here used to watch Fresh Prince Of Bel Air, Diedrich Bader (Rex) had two cameos playing Aunt Janice's husband.
I have met some Rex-Kwan Do style guys before, I always call those sort of martial arts places McDojos because they are the Mcdonalds of martial arts and usually are very cultish
absolutely LOVE your personalities!!!
You two are great to watch ❤ I love this movie and it was fun to see how you two liked it.
I have some ideas for you to watch (in case you havent seen these.... Nacho Libre, The Little Rascals, The Sandlot, Secondhand Lions, O Brother Where Art Thou, Air Bud, Matilda, The Princess Bride.
I'll gather some more of my favorites as I binge watch your videos, haha 😊
Napoleon is wearing moon boots. Popular in about 1985. Early 80s. Everyone wanted these as a kid when winter was approaching. We wore them only in the snow 😂
Whaaat? I've seen this movie so many times and I never knew about the post-credits scene.
