    There are no real words to describe the experience of watching Messi, which is why his name itself has become of shorthand for it. He makes football look like an individual sport with his astounding skill and flair. Messi's dribbling and control of the ball is on realm of its own, no one can do it like him, it's an innate talent he was born with and perfected it. His style revolves around keeping the ball close to himself as if it were stuck to him and never letting it go. It’s simply that when Messi is on the ball, everything else fades into the background. With other players you talk about ball control, but Messi is beyond control. He never appears to be moving the ball so much as moving with it, the two of them - Leo and the ball, performing an intricate, magnetic pas de deux, slaloming hypnotically around everything in their path.
    The way he dribbles past his opponents seemingly without making any big visible feint while always keeping the same pace even when turning makes his movements feel like water in a flowing river and you being a rock. It's a simple motion but you can't stop it, unless you brute-force your way past it.
    His dribbling, a symphony, pure poetry in motion, a sight to behold. Truly the GOAT.

      Rudolph Nureyev did come to my mind, also a quarter horse's ability to stop and start and spin and mark cattle.
      Messi's has very powerful short coupled balanced conformation and short cannon bones [ knee to ankle] like an agile Quarter horse ,and he does not have the long cannon bones ,long back and long legs of some horses and humans that are just built for speed.
      Centre of gravity and balance because of his size and shape is part of his gift and talent.

      You hit the nail on the head when you said that he doesn’t move the ball, rather he moves with the ball. That’s it right there. That’s exactly what he does. As if there were a string connected from his foot to the ball. He also has to perform this glorious dance without getting tripped up by the constant barrage of other players.

      Commentator RAy Hudson, a Briton, (formerly of GolTV) usually says that MEssi's touch is as soft as a mother's kiss on a baby.
      I think he is right. Messi caresses the ball in full flight surrounded by no less than three defenders. He knows how to weave his way out of it.
      The same commentator once said that you'll walk infront of Messi through a revolving door but he'll come out of the other side infront of you.
      I miss RAy Hudson and Phil SChoean the American.

  • @pkoppart
    @pkoppart 3 года назад +89

    Pure art! This video kind of made it clear why he is so good at dribbling - of course, among other factors, it is the 'touch'. Each touch is so measured and controlled. The ball is always 'touched' such that it moves just about enough to beat the tackling player's foot but is always so close to himself. Just magical perfection.

      Couldn't have said it better. His ability to put the ball precisely beyond his defenders reach but never have it stray too far in order to regain possession of the ball makes the hair on my arms stand up. His mis-directions and quick jab-steps to throw off balance his opponent seems so easy yet it seemingly can't be replicated.

      3 major keys of Messi's dribbling for me are:
      1. The numerous constant little touches he takes which give the perception of the ball being stuck to his feet.
      2. The deliberate delayed timing of his moves and touches when a defender approaches which is why he always has them just out of reach. Sometimes he can touch the ball or make a move early but he "fishes" the defender until he comes close and then he makes the move at the last possible moment which makes it possible to eliminate the defender with one simple practical touch.
      3. His unmatched body feinting and faking ability which can almost never be read correctly by defenders since he is using his whole body and has perfect balance for it to be executed to perfection.

    When I was younger, I looked up to Ronaldo when he was in Manchester, because I would always see him do all these kinds of tricks and skills in a very fast paced manner. It was very entertaining. When I looked at Messi, all he did was just get by many players in a simple form; not many tricks, just touches and cuts. The reason why I thought Ronaldo was better than Messi was because although Ronaldo's moves were cool to watch, they weren't really affective, it was just show. Don't get me wrong, Ronaldo is still pretty good, but now that I have matured and know more about football, I have come to the realization that Messi is FAR better than Ronaldo. People who truly know about football know that messi is one of the best, if not, THE BEST in history.

      @slickswings 5 лет назад +11

      Actually that is not entirely accurate. He is not just fast physically but his real speed is in his football brain and reaction speed. He thinks ahead and anticipates where the opponent will be. While he is dribbling towards the opponent he is at least 2-3 moves ahead of the opponent. With the body feint, he can easily make an opponent commit to defending one side while he reacts and goes the other way.

    • @raihantaqy2187
      @raihantaqy2187 5 лет назад +7

      @@slickswings his body makes him easier to turn than any player, he uses it better than any other players who have same height. And his easel is really strong. And he can use his brain in any situation and any condition. So he can analyze his opponents well, where they are, what they will do. I watched tons of legendary players on youtube, only Maradona can be compared to Messi.

    This is pure art. This is poetry in motion. I’ve never got the full affect of how great his footwork is until I saw it in motion. And even still, I wish you woulda slowed it down just a little more. Players were literally doing everything they can to stop him, trying to foul, kick him, slide into him, knee him, and just how he reads everything while keeps perfect touch on the ball, it’s just amAzing. Beautiful video man

  • @AndreasJohanns
    @AndreasJohanns Год назад +12

    Several observations: (1) his entire body is dribbling, not just the feet, (2) he body fakes a lot, throwing the opponent off, (3) he doesn't use the "falling-down" drama, though he's often pushed around, (4) his speed is crazy, even passing the ball through others' legs, (5) the other men really respect him and aren't trying to destroy him either.

    What I like about Messi most is not that he is not a diver but he is a very strong and resistant player that you can not take him down easily.
    Just check 2:00 for instance.
    First - hit to his ankle - any player would fell, but Messi,
    Second - step on his feet - he lumps little bit but continues.
    He is even so determined to continue, he doesn't even think about that is a very nice freekick spot.
    If Messi is down, he got fauled for sure.

    Leo’s dribbling unfolds like an intricate symphony, his every touch a crescendo of unparalleled harmony, weaving a tapestry of motion so sublime it transcends the boundaries of earthly perception. As he glides across the field, he embodies the spirit of the ocean, ebbing and flowing like the tide, his movements a breathtaking ballet of fluidity and grace.
    His feet are the keys of a celestial piano, playing an ethereal melody that resonates through the very core of existence. Each step is a masterstroke, a delicate brush on the canvas of time, painting an indelible portrait of artistic genius that transcends the ephemeral realm of the mortal coil.
    The defenders who dare challenge him are like leaves caught in the tempest of his talent, swirling and tumbling, powerless to resist the maelstrom of brilliance that surrounds him. He navigates the labyrinth of their futile attempts with the finesse of a seasoned cartographer, charting a transcendent path through the chaos of their disarray.

    Those who have played the sport in the streets, a club, a league, and the like, know very well that Grand Entity Messi is doing many, many things at the same time, preparing to trick, unbalance, outrun, and some times, just PRETEND you would use any of those, to later move light a lightning to another direction. It's comparable, saving the differences, to a Bach fuge. There's many tunes being played at the same time, intermixed, one finishing the other's phrases and complementing. All done with 10 fingers and two feet. Messi is the same. Everything he does with his body is to allow himself, at least, one clear path out of any situation. A true MASTER!
