- It's the biggest event of the year! It's the Superbowl of speedrunning! It's GAMES DONE QUICK, BABY. This year I'm doing two runs... this one is "Baron of Shell," a ridiculously hard shell jump kaizo hack. My other run is called "Fly Me to The Stars," which... is also a ridiculously hard kaizo hack. Not sure why I punish myself like this. Anyway, enjoy.

I can always appreciate a runner who understands the assignment and lets the crowd make noise the entire run.
i thought i’d have a hard time staying up until 5:00 am to see the entirety of gpb’s runs live, but the adrenaline was so high that i couldn’t fall asleep for another four hours after getting home. plus, gpb signed my attendee badge & took pictures with me. fuck yeah.

Seeing that Poo made it back to a GDQ event just made my week (maybe even my whole month honestly!). He is such a wonderful player and performer, always ecstatic to see these runs!
I sent an email to Miyamoto for clarification and got this response; "it was always our intention for yoshi to be a throw away friend for mario. We added him to the game much like someone adds a wrapper around a cheeseburger. It is helpful for when it needs transportation for one place to another but when it is time to enjoy, you throw it away. So if you need help getting around you may use the yoshi but once you are ready to enjoy the game you are supposed to discard it like a piece of trash."

Seeing Shouju without a Yoshi head is a trip.
What's insane is he paused to get the audience all riled up. The time GPB could have got is maybe a min or so lower without that, and for a live event run as big as this, it's insane.
I was in the crowd but I'm so impressed I'm watching it again.

This was an absolute blast to see in person! The crowd was in awe, that's why we were so quiet! It was also so dang early in the morning. Meeting Poo, his editor, the maker of the Iron Mon hall of Fame statues, the maker of this game, and everyone else was an honor (I'm terrible at names though). Thanks for an amazing birthday weekend! That was amazing. He really didnt get stuck at any point for more than like 20 seconds, and he got the crowd going like nothing else. What a run, what a guy.

Yeah, I'd like a special shout out for Shojou giving the exact right commentary at the right time, explaining little things, saying how stupid hard a thing is that we were looking at, things like that. But yeah, they all did an amazing job explaining things and hyping things up. But I really super appreciate those little inserts Shojou made. Literally every time I was wondering about something, she said/explained it a second later.
You inspired me to give this hack a shot. I got past the first regrab shell jump 1 time in about an hour lmao. Your skills are nutty.
I've been watching Kaizo for a while now. I don't play but I love watching them. There's alot of creators out there but in my mind there's a few really good creators. This guy is one of them. This hack is really good and has great flow, difficulty, indicators, everything the player needs to not get lost. Or making the hack too easy or too hard.
I must give credit where it's due! Keep on creating...and of course Poo kills it... :)

I've been lax on following GDQ -- did not realize you were running this time around, and this just made my week!
Love Poo getting people to donate for the final boss.
I dig how Poo also likes the song "Mind's Eye" from the Tempest 2000 soundtrack (for the Judecca level). I learned about that song from an SMW fangame and absolutely love it.
That interactable background layer level melted my brain. Someone should make a whole game about that.

But that's not what I am commenting for. What I love most about this run is the old school vibe and the energy of you, your amazing fun and beautiful couch, and the enthusiastic audience, and of course the lady with the Poo shirt who has been waiting all day for this run!

Cool to see GDQ back on the stage. Was a lot less fun watching people do it from home, especially with the... varying recording equipment people had access to.
Poo is an entretainer. He manages the wnergy of the crowd, adapts to the situation, and even interacts with hecklers.

i was a couple rows ahead of that guy in the crowd. you can’t always hear him on the vid, but he was counting every death & encouraging poo the whole run. legend
GPB telling the crowd to hoot and holler reminded me of Happy Gilmore when he asks the spectators to “make some noise.”

yo, it's hard for me to truly appreciate how hard these romhacks are, cause all I know is they're WAYYYY above my skill level, but I totally believe it when you guys say it's harder than he makes it look, which is just insane. Definitely one of the runners you wanna see at every GDQ, GPB brings the skillz and the hype 1000%

It's in my top 3 for sure. Puwexil, sorry for butchering the name, doing FFIX and him and his couch explaining the entire story that was mashed through is my nr1, possibly forever because of Final Fantasy bias :p And Broshenka, again sorry for butchering the name, was there I think, and he wasn't here for this run, so there's that :p
