Thank-you Lauren for doing this lesson. Sad to hear of Jimmy Buffet’s passing. This will be on my daily practice list.
You are so welcome!
Hi Lauren. It's a coincidence that I saw this lesson from you on Margaritaville today. It was exactly a year ago that I performed that song live at a music fest with my guitar instructor Brian May and his band. I used the syncopated strumming pattern. You teach this song exactly the way Brian May told me to learn it. You are awesome Lauren.
Nice!!!
Just want to let you know Lauren that I am still learning the guitar. I am not quiting. You are a great instructor on you tube and my in person guitar instructor Brian May is awesome. Brian suffered a tragedy a month ago, his wife Anita May who lit up Studio Arts with her smile took her own life. She had bipolar. That is so sad. Brian and I had fun yesterday at Studio Arts doing Highway to Hell. Brian and his family are going through a tremendous struggle now but music keeps them inspired.
Awesome lesson, my mama used to play this in the 70"s I have never learned it, but I think now I will give it a shot. Thank You
Go for it!
Really cool and fun lesson for a timeless song! Thanks so much. Really appreciate it! 🙏🎸
My pleasure!
Great lesson
Im glad I found your content. I started playing again after some time off from frustration. I found playing fun again while watching your method
Aww Steve so happy to help. It's normal to get frustrated. Way to get back on the horse. You got this!
Look how cute Lauren looks! Fun lesson! Made my Saturday as always! 😊😊😊
Glad you liked it!!
Great Song ! Awesome job teaching it 😊
Thanks so much!
Best teacher
Thank you so much!
Lauren,
I've been learning guitar from you for a good while and I just wanted to say that I very much enjoy your teaching style. I'm working on Margaritaville now in honor of the late great Jimmy Buffet. Thank you for teaching this old guy how to play the guitar keep up the great work.
You're very welcome!
You are so welcome!!!
Definitely adding this one to my list of "I want to learn" songs. 🙂
Yes!!
Ok Lauren! I was laughing my ears off when you said arthritis😅great video❤thanks
Awesome! I just love the way you present your lessons. It motivates me to keep trying. Picked up the guitar two months ago and finally have enough calloused fingers that I can practice more than 5 minutes at a time. Your presentation of songs makes it understandable for older students like me. Keep up the great work.
Thank you very much! I'm really glad I could help :D

Extremely helpful Lauren! I loved the chord changes going off the lyric in the song, never thought of that! Great video
Glad it was helpful!
Another great lesson 🎸
Thanks again!
Good timing on this song lesson.
I've been practicing this song, so far haven't tackled that intro. But I'm getting ready to incorporate it.
Interestingly the lyrics/chords I copied from online didn't have the D7 transition. I thought the song needed something there, so I added the D7 myself.
This is a fun song. I keep track of this video to remind me about adding little flourishes like that intro. Keep 'em coming, Lauren.
Great lesson!
Glad you liked it! 😊
Hi Lauren! Just letting you know that I am still learning the guitar and never quiting. As you know my guitar instructors name is Brian May. Brian May had me perform this song with his band two years ago. I am never quiting the guitar. On your videos you are a great instructor.
Yes, I remember. Keep going!
@@LaurenBateman Yesterday I was at Studio Arts for my guitar lesson. I fingerpicked Can't help Falling in Love and Brain sang it. He asked me if I wanted to perform that song at a recital on June 15th. I said yes. That sure boosted my confidence. I also strummed I'm Gonna Be by The Proclaimers while Brian sang. Did that perfectly.
I love the fact that you make it easy for us seniors and enjoy playing guitar
I am always happy to help!
You Rock!
Lauren is an amazing teacher and if you have learned as much as I have in such a short period of time from her, please consider donating to her on her website. She deserves it.
Thank you very much :D
Hi Lauren, you really do a great job of explaining and teaching and I enjoy learning from you. Thank You.

yeah...hours and hours of Videos...she has the passion and patience to help....she gave up PHARMA for us..that says a lot
Thank you very much 🙏🏽🙏🏻
You are very welcome
Thanks
Thanks so much for your donation. Really appreciate it :D
Hi Lauren, just came across your channel. I'm a beginner again! I've tried on and off for years but never stuck to it, but this time I'm going to power through. I've been using Justin Guitars videos because I like how thorough he is, but I like your teaching style also so I'm going to start your lessons too now. Came across this video and loved it - I've been somewhat of a Parrot Head since college, and who doesn't love this song?! I already know all the lyrics! A final fun fact: Jimmy Buffet and I have the same birthday too!
That's awesome! I'm looking forward to your journey :)
I'm glad your channel found my timeline
Welcome aboard! :D
The demonstration of that intro was great. 👏👏 I am definitely saving this video to practice it (and the song too!) Thanks bunches. (At 74 I'm in your demographic. 😊)
Glad it was helpful!
Well done with the chord change words, even for someone too young to know what a pop top is hehe.
Thanks for watching!
Hey Lauren, Love the guitar. Just got the same one. Very easy and comfortabel to play. Taylor 324Ce
Oh awesome. Congratulations. Beautiful sound.
Sorry one thing. That DDUUDU is stuck in my muscle memory. I will start off with a different pattern in some songs and then I end up there again. How do I break that habit? I’m going crazy trying to do other patterns now that I have mastered that one.
Learn songs that are dependent on different strumming patterns. It's very easy to go back to that pattern when you have a song that doesn't rely on the rhythm guitar
Great lesson! Thanks!
Me too that’s the automatic pattern for the eagles too
Not alone there.
@LaurenBateman Hi Lauren ,my question is about the picking directions of your picking hand when picking each guitar string from top to bottom and bottom to top.
Is it straight up and down at a 90° or at a 45° degree angle On a normal traditional guitar ?
Also keep in mind I'm playing a Strandberg Classic six string angel fretboard guitar.
Now everyone who wants to rock this song in his honor after his passing today, has got a wonderful recent tutorial to do so
Thanks for watching!
Something that would be useful would be to list the tempo (bpm?). It gives me something to shoot for as I improve when learning to play the songs
I honestly don't take a look at the bpms before I play. It's more based on a feel but I understand your need to have a goal.
Great stuff there Lauren, and a great ol strumming party song,Rip poor ol Jimmy B.
Obviously you need to change the key, capo 3rd maybe, would suit your voice.Ger guitar man.

Many thanks!!
Hey Lauren
So I use the D7 quite often in place of D major just because it sounds so pretty in many songs where Dmaj is the actual chord. Do others do this and is this common? I was just curious. Thanks!
Sure, it's common to replace different chords with different chord voicings.
I see you as Sarah Silverman teaches guitar ….works for me…I’m Subbed in
Thanks for the sub!
You were thinking about making 3 trips back to the buffet... 🤣 That cold did a number on ya. what were you taking for it. awesome video though.. Thanks Lauren..
Thanks for watching!
Hi,super, back from holiday.3 weeks no guitar in my hands.tragical😊😊😊
Welcome back! Grab that guitar 😊
I love this song, but it's too low for me to sing. What alternative chords can I use for female voices? Thanks.
Use a capo! Maybe around third fret. Watch this video. Fast forward to 3:30

@@LaurenBateman Thank you! I just bought one from Amazon and it's coming tomorrow. I will start using capo.
Hi, Lauren. Hope you can help me. I'm a lefty, but for some reason that I don't know the slightest reason why, I play the guitar right handed. I play mainly electric. I would consider myself between a beginner and intermediate. Been learning for a few years now. Oh, and, I'm 78. Making chords is not too much of a problem. But, my REAL problem is strumming. I use a pick. (Haven't really tried learning to finger pick) And, I video recorded myself playing on my phone, and I can see my picking hand going all wobbly. When I try strumming down near the pickups, my pick gets hung up on the strings, so I move up so that I'm over the neck. But my strumming is horrible. I'm pretty sure it has to do with my being left handed because I use a hand saw lefty, and no way I could saw a straight line righty. Any help, advice would be much appreciated. I think you're one of the best guitar instructors on RUclips, which is why I'm asking you, and not Marty, or Justin. Sorry for being so long winded. Thank you in advance. Michael P. McCartney. And, yes...Paul is my third cousin. :)
No way!!! That's so cool. For strumming, I would highly recommend my strumming course. Starts from the basics and works towards more intermediate level:
www.laurenbatemanguitar.com/strumming
I'm a huge Beatles fan and so wasn't my mom.
I am a 69 year old left handed beginner, I purchased a left handed guitar and signed up for lessons. On the first day my instructor said I'm starting with 2 dumb hands so I might as well learn to play right handed since there are more guitar options available to me. My right hand just doesn't have the dexterity yet to work the strings both strumming and picking strings in scales and spider exercises. Perhaps I need learn to write right handed first! :-) There is hope, Mark Knopfler is left handed and plays right handed.
@@daveschings828 Or, you could just try playing left handed, and see how that feels. Joe Perry is left handed, and he said when he got his first guitar about age 12, it came with an instruction booklet (before internet) and in the booklet it said put the pick in your right hand, and hold the neck in your left hand, and that's what he did. When he got older, and more experienced at playing, some friends who knew him since they were kids asked him why he plays right handed, and he told them. He said about that time, just to see, he tried switching, and it was a disaster, so he kept playing right handed. My story is a little different. I didn't start learning to play until in my mid 60's, and for some reason, and I have no idea why, I just started playing right handed, but as I told Lauren, my picking hand can get a bit wobbly. Anywho, I'll be 79 on Veterans Day (and I'm a Veteran) so, there's no way I'm ever going to learn to play lefty at my age. And, if I tried to write right handed, it would look like chicken scratching. Good luck with your playing. Stick with it. It's good therapy, and fun. Cheers. :)

know it's OffSubject. ...but for better video experience and useable APPS with her videos...just updated apple MBAir m1 to Sonama from big sir...took 6 attempts...word to all ..be close to your wifi router or plugged directly into it. USB-C male to ethernet Female cable....and also charged battery or plugged in... took months to JUMP..so far smooth sailing..now Garage Band and Goodies will update to current builds..it was the sticking point that made me do the update... also updated Apple PadPro2 tablet... now all updates will stick and not get rejected...Garage Band one of them
Interesting
50 is the new 40
It’s funny I’m finding DDUUDU way easier than the other lol probably because that’s in my muscle memory
I'm grasping...on a TeleCaster...faster I go on it better it sounds

happy safe Holidays to everyone....
THE NUMBERS ARE TO SMALL😮
Sorry about that.
I've got the lyrics and chords typed out, ready for me to practice. I'm excited about learning that intro. Also, it would be great to use that alternate strum but I haven't been able to master ANY strum containing two up-strums in a row. 😢 I'll stick with the simpler version for now though. Keeping fingers crossed. 🤞 🙂
Thanks for watching! Keep on playing and always have fun!
