Well even if it isn’t trying to hurt him, that’s how sharks test things. Like we do with are hands, sharks does with there mouth. 1 of the reasons why you don’t fuck with them.

I don't know if sharks are able to know that the diver will not steal him food I bet he perfectly knows that, and therefore the warning was due to distance, but who knows...
@@atxsnf658 Whale meat tends to make sharks act drunk, which is why reckless people pet them or ride them in those waters. Because sharks all take a bite, they're less territorial near the smorgasbord. This shark showed hostile body language after the touch, but may've been too dopey to be more aggressive.
Steve Irwin made a living out of being the wanker that couldn't stick to that. And he was a zookeeper, i.e. encaged and exploited animals for cash. Yet people loved him... He got his just desserts in the end ha ha.
The shark literally was like "Hey man, I don't want to attack you, but if you don't stop touching me I'll be forced to." The shark was right to warn him. The driver was a fool, a lucky fool.
Its basically the same as a dog warning you not to fuck around with its tail. The Shark clearly didn't like being touched and its body behavior after clearly indicated it wasn't happy. However what it did wasn't a attack. It was more of a dude how would you like it if I did that to you, but didn't really attempt anything other than to intimidate the diver. It clearly had no intention of attacking him really physically. Also the Diver is fairly close to the size of that white. White Sharks like most predators don't normally attack prey items or creatures near there size. The potential for harm is very great. So no it was just intimidating the diver for yanking its fin. That's alot of restraint for a animal.
Most 'adrenaline junkies' are just that, lucky fools. I enjoy extreme sports myself (snowboarding, rock climbing, skydiving) but theres some people (like the diver in this video) that become pariah in the community. They dont only get themselves in shit, which is fine, most of us do at some point, they also get the people around them into danger, which is not fine.
Being in the water near a food source like that is just ridiculous. "Did the man on top of the building holding a golf club in the air during the storm provoke the lightning?"
@derekkelly4816 practically all documented shark attacks were investigative bites, where the shark took a single bite, released it wasn't a seal, then left. When a shark actually consumes a human, they are most often legitimately starving.
@@notlikely4468 However, Twitter instantly finds the shark guilty of rape and sentence him to be cancelled from ever eating whale carcasses again and must remain outside of 500 yards from dive zones

The shark acted in a more communicative and deep way than the diver. By touching the shark, the diver was saying, "I dominate." The shark turned around and said in a most gentle, almost parental manner, "No. No you don't. And don't ever do that again."
He would have tried a test bite if the diver hadn't evaded and probably others helped him. Don't think thats parental behaviour, he was angry with fins down and that could have become a horrible shark accident..

One of the more stupid things I've seen people do near sharks. In Australia if a whale carcass floats near a beach it will be closed for a full week even after the authories tow it out to sea.
drk321 No. it's illegal to kill sharks in Australia. Plus why would they kill the sharks? That's their home. If a person wants to go in the ocean, he/she should take that risk. Don't blame the shark for being a shark.

drk321 I've seen a documentary bout great whites in Australia, and they said the reason why more and more attacks are happening in Australia cause they passed a law that sharks can not be killed cause the number is reducing.
Solo Rider You make no sense. That was a test bump by the shark. Call it. 'friendly' warning if you like. The warning is that it's a feeding behavior and it's curious about whether or not you are food. That diver was a fraction of a second away from the next step: the bite test.
Whites are also highly social. Diver didnt understand the gaped jaw and head shake warning so the shark made sure the diver understood the next warning.
Agreed. That diver is stupid and very lucky. Sharks aren't cute and cuddly creatures, they will straight up kill you just like a lion or a tiger or a bear will. Nature's not nice, nature will kill you if you don't respect it or are just freaking stupid.
@@luciato8972 I noticed the penis quite clearly. Also, downward facing front fins on a shark means "Leave me alone!" I've heard in wildlife documentaries.
First thing anybody who's qualified to interact with Great Whites will tell you is that every shark is different and has their own personality and boundaries. Some sharks are "playful" and some mean business. Being in close proximity to a food source, then swimming toward the animal would almost certainly be interpreted by the shark as competition for the food source. This guy almost won a Darwin Award.
I am a shark researcher with over 5,000 hours experience working with them in their natural habitat. Tigers, Galapagos, sandbar, hammerhead and whale sharks in Hawai'i and great whites of Isla Guadalupe. I am unsure of what you are questioning. If you were Diving on a whale carcass then the likelihood of sharks showing aggression towards anything, even other sharks, is extremely rare if it exists at all. I have been around several dead whale carcasses in Hawaiian waters and have friends and colleagues with much more experience than myself in this matter. A carcass would be a large food source which allows for "enough for everyone" mentality. Whereas, when there is very little food available like there is on shark tours, the sharks become more aggressive roughly proportional to the number of sharks present along with water conditions. Rougher water where white caps are present will oxygenate the water and cause faster and more erratic movement of the animals. Calm water and an abundant food source "usually" make for calmer sharks but never a guarantee of that type of behavior. Sharks, like people, are very curious. The video seems to be unclear on the actions of both the diver and shark but it looks as if the diver tried to touch the shark. Then the shark approaches a diver at the surface. If that is the same diver then it is (should be) a minimum of 3 minutes difference in time due to ascension of the dive including a safety stop. That would make for quite a delayed reaction and absolutely like no other attack that I have witnessed. If the touch at depth did aggravate the shark he would have immediately turned and done something about it. Sharks have no bones in their bodies and can easily touch their snout to their tail. Sharks "skeleton" is completely cartilage and they have even been able to fit between the bars of the cages and enter the cage. That is why the bars on the bottom are spaced further apart than the bars on the sides of the cage. If a shark needs to escape a situation they swim straight down.
Well to be fair, there are lots of other shark species that are fine with it(assuming you know what you're doing of course), so the diver could've reasonably thought this great white would've been cool, though of course it's kind of stupid to surprise a shark like that, especially one that's more in the middle of the aggression scale. At least he didn't do it to a really aggressive species
Don't forget that these animals have highly sophisticated senses to analyse their prey, What the shark probably did was like sniffing or exploring before attacking. Unless they are highly starved and desperate for food they are cautious of what they eat. Multiple sharks could have triggered a "first come first served" race among them so, these divers were lucky. Sharks also develop personalities and one is more gentle and calm where others more nervous and aggressive. Sharks are also like other predators, they are sensitive to bluff. If it doesn't run, it could be as dangerous as itself. Thinking this shark was warning them is a bit too simple, it was probably provoking a reaction to check the danger level and/or analyzing how good a bite it could be...
I see them like oceankittens. Curious, playful and smart. They just have big oversized claws. They may not want to harm people. But it's not their fault we are so 'squishy' and weak. What might bruise another shark or seal might be fatal to a human being. They can play gentle. But when they play rough, they play rough :P (^^^)
Sharks sniff by scenting, lateral line and ampulae... My answer is not retarded. Yours is. The natural prey white sharks hunt are way stronger built than we are. Seals are built way stronger than humans. Sharks sniff by biting.... hahah... Sharks use their teeth as fingers to touch. Scenting and tasting has been done way before the teeth touch the skin XD
+Alexander Jansseune I learned something about great whites the other week, if you watch you can see the shark turn it's fins outward and opened it's jaws a little as it approaches the offending diver. that pose is used to tell other sharks "you're in my space and need to back off _now_!"
"Was the shark's warning justified by the diver's actions?" It doesn't have to "justify" it's actions. You're in it's environment, it didn't show up in your living room. Anything that happens to you once you entered that water is on you, no justification needed.

They're fish but they have crazy reasoning skills and know when theyre not being treated properly. Give respect to the creatures we have stolen this planet from, they deserve it.
Zinnshady24 they are not that intelligent. That's absurd. They have finely tuned instincts but their brains are very small relative to their size. They aren't nearly as cognitive as orcas or dolphins. That's why you don't see Orcas mistake people for prey.

BadMan Riddimz no, a bottlenose dolphin cannot take down a great white. It would have to be several times heavier than its max size to have a chance at anything but a baby white.

Absodamnlutely the shark was justified. As has been mentioned, that diver is very lucky to have just gotten that little warning as opposed to being ripped in half. Diver was very reckless and apparently forgot they were visitors in the shark's home.
Was the sharks warning justified? I dont know, would a grizzly bear be justified if some dip shit hiker walked up to it & slapped it on the ass, would you blame the bear for eating them?

Number 1 rule when dealing with animals in the wild “don’t touch”
Any time the Army sends soldiers anywhere they get a safety briefing which always includes, "DON'T MESS WITH THE WILDLIFE!"
My one year old son had a book called Never Touch Wild Animals. Like it's just common knowledge I thought
I did pet a wild turtle ,
Bigger then that i pass.
Steve Irwin made a living out of being the wanker that couldn't stick to that. And he was a zookeeper, i.e. encaged and exploited animals for cash. Yet people loved him... He got his just desserts in the end ha ha.
Right, just watch. Even dogs can bit you very bad if they don’t know you.
The shark literally was like "Hey man, I don't want to attack you, but if you don't stop touching me I'll be forced to."
The shark was right to warn him. The driver was a fool, a lucky fool.
Literally. That's exactly what he/she said.
Didnt realise this was a dash cam clip.
It wasn't literal.
Being in the water near a food source like that is just ridiculous. "Did the man on top of the building holding a golf club in the air during the storm provoke the lightning?"

The shark acted in a more communicative and deep way than the diver. By touching the shark, the diver was saying, "I dominate." The shark turned around and said in a most gentle, almost parental manner, "No. No you don't. And don't ever do that again."
I wouldn't call it parental; it would compare more to a T.Rex growling at a beaver that's pissing it off.

One of the more stupid things I've seen people do near sharks. In Australia if a whale carcass floats near a beach it will be closed for a full week even after the authories tow it out to sea.
And then they will kill all sharks in the area. Australia is not the best model for shark conservation.

that's basically a warning

They sniff the same as you do actually. But they don't have hands so they can't poke things the way we do.

"Was the shark's warning justified by the diver's actions?" It doesn't have to "justify" it's actions. You're in it's environment, it didn't show up in your living room. Anything that happens to you once you entered that water is on you, no justification needed.

Ye I see what you mean. I just thought it was funny, trying to justify animal behaviour, its not like the great white will be punished for threatening the diver^^
Kari no clothes lol please just hush. Put some clothes on. Go back to school. Google a better response.
I think they should take this shark to shark court.
Karim Shebeika i think that shark has to reflect his behaviour more, it was not ok from him to scare the diver when he just touched his tail.
I think the shark should take anger managament.
Karim Shebeika we are a species of animal that do plenty if unjustifible things more so way back when?
Diver: [le touch]
Shark: You're lucky I had that penguin for breakfast the other day, or else I would eat manburgers now.
Vulgar Display of Truth Lmao
I just had a similar experience with a Blue Shark in Malta (Ghadira Bay Area) . He just bumped his nose in my leg 2x when I was snorkeling, but didn’t bite. He was hunting there, and I felt like „Okay, he is just telling me that I am disturbing his mission“. I left the spot, he checked for me after and continued his way.
I think it was testing whether it could bite. Don't let them bump you more than once.
Things would be different if the diver wasnt a diver and was just floating on top of the water without scuba gear.
Rule 1# - NEVER touch anything you encounter under water. Nuff said.
And this is why we know jack shit about the ocean
Unfortunate Circumstances what do you suggest we do? We’ve already essentially ruined above ground. God forbid we find a gold mine of natural resources and end up making the ocean a worse place than it already is.
As a diver, its not necessary to touch aquatic life to learn about a species, observing is plenty enough.
Mermaid pussy... Nuff said im touching aquatic stuff
