Hi Paul. Thanks for commenting. Also interesting to hear you make a living from printing your work. Would you like to be interviewed in my channel via a Zoom call? I’m sure many would be interested in your photography story and journey. DM me and we can arrange. Cheers Peter
I had a Q2 for a few months and missed the tilt screen of my Fuji bodies. So I sold it. NOW I’m v interested in the Q3 cos of tilt screen. Thanks for the interesting video.
Can't wait! Maybe it'll mean that I can finally afford a Q2 😁Been wanting a "compact" camera setup for days when I don't want to take my full-size mirrorless or DSLR bodies just to dinner or outside to take pictures of my son playing in the yard. I don't want to invest in any other system's glass and Canon doesn't have anything like this that floats my boat, so it's likely a one-time buy for me; buy this baby once and use it until one of us kicks the bucket.
Still rocking my orignal Q. Tried the Q2, but did not need the extra resolution and am happy with smaller file size and better performance in post processing. I hope the Q3 will offer Pixel binning to 30mp like the M11. Everything far above 24mp is just overkill for every use i have, which includes large prints. Thanks for the Video!
One thing I’d like to add for everyone interested in a used original Q. As the lens is so sharp, you can easily double the resolution in Lightroom via “super resolution”. Basically gives you 48mp if you really need it ;)
I'm likely going to upgrade. The rumor of the Q3 using the same sensor as the M11 has me interested. The extra dynamic range I experienced going from the M10 to M11 hooked me.
I had the opportunity to hold the Q3 in my hands today. Nice, but pricey! The best novelty is the tilt screen. It makes life so much easier for 70+ photographers. It's a bit heavier than my Q, but feels more solid. If I had 48.425 DKK or 7.000 USD/6.500 EUR/5.650 GBP on my account, it would be an easy decision to get a new LUX 28 lens plus a camera body for almost free, but my bank tells me, I've to stick to my trusty Q. BTW: my local Leica dealer told me, was the first person on Danish soil to touch the brand new Q3. Please note: we have 25 % VAT in Denmark!
Having open or rather exposed contacts on the bottom of a camera is a bad, bad idea...Leica. I know a few people who fried their $3500 D850 or D810/800/D800E after removing the vertical grip, yet forget to replace that little rubber flap that covers the electrical contacts for the grip. One person had a wave splash a tiny bit of water on his D850 and it was done for, over that missing $6 rubber piece, and quite a few Nikon camera's have been lost to setting them in water, say on your countertop or whatever, even a small amount of water, especially salt water...is bad news for electrical contacts. I'm well aware there are contacts designed for being exposed and they last long and take a lot of abuse, I've used many encrypted radio systems from Honeywell to JTTRS to Motorola (APX 8000). Many of these radios have exposed contacts for charging and they are extremely durable and weather proof, and take abuse. So I will give Leica the benefit of my doubt and they are a German company after all, plus they likely thought of this issue. So maybe I am wrong, but I just prefer my camera not have open contacts. Leica makes some amazing cameras and lenses, and I've even say there really is a "Leica look" to many of their camera/sensors and lens combos! I also think they are over priced and somewhat of a snobby brand. However I get it, and if I had the money to burn...I'd definitely like to own a Q2 Reporter or SL2/SL3. Just like I would love to own a PhaseOne IQ4 or more lenses, lol. At the end of the day though, I only own what I need and nothing more. I used to have 5 Nikon professional grade lenses at once. I had the 14-24mm f/2.8G, 24-70mm f/2.8E VR FL, 70-200mm f/2.8E VR FL and 500mm f/4E VR FL. I've now gone down to just three lenses and I really only use two, the 28mm f/1.4E and the 500mm f/4E VR FL. The 70-200mm comes in handy a lot as well, but I don't always need it. I used to own two super-tele's until recently, I had the 200-400mm VRII and it was a great copy...extremely sharp and some of my favorite images were taken with that lens. For what I shoot, Leica just does not really work out. I rely heavily on being able to quickly and reliably transmit images taken and get them sent to my iPhone or MacBook Pro and cropped and whatever, ready to send out within minutes. Nikon and Canon flagship DLSR's like the D6 and 1Dx Mark III take wireless adapters and they enable you to send images (using FTP/SFTP, for example) to get them out quickly. They are pricey accessories at around $650 each, but they are worth every penny and once setup properly...they are 100% reliable in my usage. I can simply pinch and zoom on my rear D6 screen and hit "Quick Crop" with one button and then flick up on the image being reviewed and it sends it to my iPhone using the ShutterSnitch application or FTP server and then I can send them to editors. So I very rarely if ever see any actual media or photojournalist using Leica camera's, but I know a few do, use Leica. We all have our own needs and wants, I want a Leica Q2 Reporter, but I don't need one, so I won't buy one. Even if I was wealthy, I wouldn't buy one, because again, I don't need one. It would only slow me down, but I think that is the point of owning a Leica, you can be creative and or slow down and I do admit, I really do see the quality. The Leica look is real as much as I hate to admit it, lol.
I sold my Q2 Monochrom after I got a Q1. I fell in love with the Q1 over the Q2M along with other M bodies. Recently I got a Q-P for a long time use since I love the Q1 which I listed for sale. Q-P is beautiful and absolutely the best looking Q among all the Q series including limited editions. I don’t like the Ghost edition, Reporter edition, Dawn edition, etc. Finally Q3 came out. Unfortunately nothing special. Same lens (Q1, Q2, Q3 all same lens) I don’t need that huge 60MP. 24MP with my Q-P is pretty enough. I don’t like a tilting screen. I don’t need 8k video as I don’t shoot video. I will buy a Sony camera for video if I’m in need of one for shooting video. And the design is identical to Q2. It’s just like upgrading a few functions so I would say it’s a Q2U(pgrade), not Q3. Price is $5995. Around $6500 after tax. No reason to upgrade at all. I will keep my lovely Q-P and then 1) I will use $6500 for other electronics such as Samsung 85” TV, iMac, iPad, Apple Watch, MacBook for about $3500. And I will buy Sony/Canon camera and lens + accessories for video for about $3000. Or, 2) I will use $6500 to buy a SL2/SL2-S and SL 24-90mm lens while I keep my lovely Q-P. Answer is quite clear about the Q3. .
Thanks for your comprehensive view of your thoughts. Yes, we all have to make choices where we allocate our hard earned cash and how we perceive value. Thanks for watching.
I love my Q2M. Can't wait for the Q3 addition. What sells me, the video, the tilt screen, and the megapixels. I make a living at printing my work.

Thanks, 👍
Hi Peter, once again a balanced, interesting and enjoyable video. Thank you! 🎉
Thanks
I like the idea of the tilting screen; as for the rest of the new features…I’ll be keeping my Q2 for a little longer.
👍

I have the Q2 monochrome, so I got a good excuse to buy the Q3 when it becomes available.... 😄
Go for it.
As an original Q user I'm really excited for this release. I love my Q but do struggle a bit with its resolution if I need to crop.
👍

Yes, I'm impressed with the Q2. Glad you love your Q. No doubt, there will be a whole bunch of new Q3 users also one day.
How much past the release date of the Q3 would we see a Q3M? What was the time difference between the Q2 and the Q2M?
Historically, there's been ~4 years between Q releases, and the Q2M came ~20 months after the Q2. Was there a QM?
Thanks for replying to Rocky's question.

Wow, thanks for the update. It’s real. If only we had endless funds….
Do you use your Q2 for Landscape ?
Yes, particularly where the landscape is tight and a wide angle lens 28mm is well suited. Happy to crop into 35mm 50mm and 75mm where appropriate.
Is the Sony A7RV + 24mm F1.4 GM better than Q3?
Good question, what do you think?
@@Adventure8 Sony because the lens is faster and interchangeable. I’m guessing the Sony is superior in focus department too.

👍 Thanks for your comprehensive comment and watching of course.
More $$$ is what you can expect, not in your pocket though. I predict Leica Q4 is even more $$$$ and Leica Q5 is $$$$$. I think I may be prescient …
👍
It might be better but less beautiful. The screen is not detailed well, pity. I will buy the Leica q2 reporter.
I enjoy my Reporter. Good choice.
