- This lecture explains about the structure of torsional angle also known as dihedral angle. This biochemistry video tutorial explains about the formation of torsional angle structure in peptide backbone during the formation of peptide bonds. It also explains the importance of torsional angle or dihedral angle to maintain the 3 dimensional structure of proteins. These torsional angle helps to find out the perfect structure of peptides favored in the formation of alpha helix or beta sheet in the Ramachandran plot.

Thank you so much for the video. Can you inform the Multiplicity rule for Dihedral angle? Or what is the significance of Multiplicity rule for dihedral angles?
I can think of 3 different combinations of planes associated with the bond Cα - C,hence 3 possible psi angles. Is there a specific set of planes we are supposed to consider? I wonder if you could recommend a goodread(book) in this regard?

I don't get it, there are two planes, they can only ever intersect at one angle, why are there two angles then?

Well, everything cool except that a line is one-dimentional and a plane is two-dimentional, not three.
2 planes wont it make 3D structure
wrong. A plane is 3d. Has x, y and z components. A line has x and y so 2D.
