The title “157 Riverside Avenue” (1971) refers to the Westport, Connecticut address where the rock band stayed while recording their debut album “REO* Speedwagon” (1971).
    TOUT SIMPLEMENT❕ 💙🎶💜
    * “REO” stands for Ransom Eli Olds (1864 - 1950), the man who founded the REO Motor Car Company in 1904. “REO Speed Wagon” was the name of a light motor truck (the ancestor of the pickup truck) first introduced in 1915.

Bottom line, Cronin wanted the FM friendly hits that made the label flush with cash. Richrath was slowly cut out with less input on the songs and he bolted. Lead guitarists are rock and rollers; the Kevin Cronin’s of the world make the label happy and rich.

Here is something most people don't know. This song is off of their first album. It was written by all of the band members at the time before Kevin Cronin was in the band. Terry Luttrell was the lead singer. Most of, if not all of their best songs were written by Gary Richrath. When Kevin Joined he wanted to do mostly Balads and that is when I quit listening to them and it really pissed off Gary. Van Halen with DLR, Journey before SP etc.. Balads sold Albums because most of the kids buying records were female don't ask me why.

I stopped buying REO albums after Lost in a Dream....their best album ever! Gary was on fire and doing what he loved to do.....the whole syrupy ballad crap Cronin brought to the band sucked! It's It's real shame Cronin was allowed to kick Gary out of the band that Gary started!

Gary was a huge piece of what put this band over the top. I am ways enjoyed Gary and his music. He was so fluid and smooth!
Two Speedwagon is not only a good show every time but they actually love what they do and put a lot of effort into making the experience a memorable one! Keep it up fellas

If I could have any two guitar players in a band, they would be:
    Lead Guitar- Gary Richrath
Rhythm Guitar- Eddie Van Halen (Obvious co-lead duties when needed)
That's how badass Gary was at Lead.

Actually I think Gary was held back by the time that they played this in 85. I also think he knew it and hated it. He played great here though, like always.

I must've seen Speedwagon with Gary Richrath on lead guitar ten times as they were from Champaign, IL, just up the road from me, and I was their age. They opened for everyone in St. Louis and even played high schools near my home in the early 1970's.
