- I needed 0.4 more hours of solo cross country time for my PPL &
I needed to take the written test, so I killed two birds w/ one
stone or should I say one flight. This was a very nice flight,
all went well & I had a great time (despite being a bit nervous
about the test). I had a little radio trouble when I switched
over to Joplin tower (hence the handheld radio on the glareshield)
but by the time I reported base the main radios where working again.
No video of my long solo cross country exists because I forgot
my camera so that was a bummer. It was also a great flight, I
flew to Fayetteville, Ar and Neosho, Mo for a total of 154nm.
I also diverted for the first time due to T-storms back at FWB,
I landed in Cassville, Mo just 20nm short of FWB. After talking
to my instructor for about 15 min we decided it was safe to
finish the trip. I took off in between T-storms & about 30 min
after I landed back at FWB a strong storm hit the airport.
