OMG now I'm crying with the clip... Three brothers loving each other so much, and achieving what they achieved... It is so understandable the sadness that Barry has been going through for years, being the older brother and that the other three (let's not forget Andy), have already gone... They will always be in our hearts
I subscribed after your first reaction to I Started A Joke although your laughter did disturb me. I wanted to see what you would say after reacting to more Bee Gees. You didn’t disappoint me. They sing different genres that spanned 5 decades. You know you’re listening to The Bee Gees but they don’t sound the same. Their harmonies are the best, their vocals range from chest voices to the best falsettos ever. They write all their own music, 1000+ songs for themselves and other top artists. They play their own instruments with Maurice being multi instrumentalist. To listen to their fabulous harmonies and out of this world falsettos, please react to TOO MUCH HEAVEN, thank you. ❤❤❤
Great to hear that you want to discover their style, that means you will need to do a lot of Bee Gees reactions in order to fully grasp their style. So, let's go! 😂
I look forward to you reviewing “Too much Heaven” xx they are super underrated even though they won it all. They got so popular that people started rejecting them… it became a thing:(
I am really glad you enjoyed this so much Amy. That was really cool how you picked up on the brother vibe even after you initially thought it was a love song. I see that it made Vlad very happy. I have a feeling that Vlad may be a fan of the Bee Gees, or at least the early Bee Gees. A great choice to include the video footage after the brother connection was made, which was very touching. I really enjoyed your reaction.
The Bee Gees are a must have, they were incredible in any decade they made music, just an amazing band, three brothers in perfect synchronicity... The 60s, the70s, the 80s (yes, the 80s), the 90s, the 00s, they always were so creative, so unique... I hope you do more from this fantastic band...
Best tunes of the Brothers Gibb in every decade 1960 - 1970: Massachusetts, 1970-1980: Fanny Be Tender, Night Fever, Stayin Alive, 1980-1990: You Win Again, 1990 -2000: For Whom the Bells Tolls, 2000-2010: This is Where I came In 2010-2020: The End of The Rainbow 2020-2024: Butterfly feat. Gillian Welch and David Rawlings recorded in Nashville 🔥
You won't settle into their style or understand their sound with two tunes from the 60s. These guys are so diverse and cross so many genres over decades that I'm not sure its possible to quantify. Also, the two songs you have listened to don't showcase their famous harmonies,. "Massachusettes" is a good one from the 60s that does a better job showcasing the harmonies. Then try something from early 70s like "Loney Days",or "Portrait of Louise", or "Lion in Winter". From mid 70s try "Mr. Natural", "NIghts on Broadway" or "Jive Talking". You will get many suggestions for the late 70s so I won't bother with that era, but for post fever era try "Alone", "My Lover's Prayer", "I Surrender", "Don't Fall In Love With Me", "Kiss of Life", "For Whom The Bell Tolls", "She Keeps On Coming", and/or "Man In The Middle" for a start. I tried to suggest a sampling that shows their diverse style and not necessarily the hits. Please delve more into the Bee Gees, you won't be sorry.
That was a good selection of songs..and thank you for not sticking completely to songs from the 'Greatest Hits' album or Saturday Night Fever...a common thing here on youtube.
The pre disco era of the Bee Gees has always been my favorite. "I've Gotta Get a Message to You" is my favorite song of theirs. "Words", "Massachusetts", "To Love Somebody", "Holiday", "Lonely Days Lonely Nights", "Run to Me", and "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" are all fantastic songs. When they did "New York Mining Disaster 1941" (which was actually about an event that didn't happen in New York or in 1941) people thought it was the Beatles.
I first found First Of May many years ago when I heard it in the soundtrack of the 1971 Britsh movie Melody. That movie, starring notable child actors Jack Wild and Mark Lestor, gives the song what may be its proper context. Melody is a movie about early first love, with a sweet story about a relationship between a young boy and girl in London.
Barry (older brother by 3 years) and his brothers ,fraternal twins Robin and Maurice were very close siblings. There was a fourth brother Andy, 12 and 9 years younger than the other three, who died in 1988 at 30 years old. When Maurice died at 53 in 2003 suddenly and Robin followed him in 2012, which left Barry and the oldest sibling, a sister, Lesley. Barry took the deaths of his brothers very, very hard, as growing up, they basically were hanging around together as a band of close companions. Their early musical careers officially started in Australia, at 12 years and 9 under the management of their father Hugh, they were travelling to gigs / living together until they sailed back to their homeland, England signed a seriously big contract with the same management as the Beatles, then at 18 the twins, formed serious romantic relationships and married. Barry married earlier at 19, but soon became estranged from his wife and separated. The demands of the early whirlwind of first fame doomed the union weeks after the family relocated in Britain. In 1970, at 24, Barry married his second wife Linda to whom he's remained with 54 yrs this September 1 (Barry's birthday).
This is one of the songs in the soundtrack for the movie MELODY that they wrote most of the songs for. It was the first romantic movie my generation had in the early 70’s. Great soundtrack all around.
Nice reaction Amy, and welcome to the HUGE Bee Gees rabbit hole. I hope Vlad's next selection for your listening pleasure will be their beautiful hit "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart."
The official video would bring a tear to a glass eye. Nice reaction. They are well known for their medleys, and the one they performed on Midnight Special in December 1975 is as good as anything you will ever see. Thanks.
Bee Gees music is not as diverse as the Beatles (a fact they share with every other artist) but their best music - of which there are decades of examples - is gorgeous. You already have a number of suggestions; I know you'll fall in love with them.
The BeeGees were: the tallest and oldest brother (with the big hair and beard), Barry Gibb, born September 1, 1946, the only surviving Gibb brother. Robin Gibb (with the long hair, no beard), born December 22, 1949-passed away May 20, 2012, and Robin's fraternal twin brother Maurice (the balding brother with the beard, pronounced "Morris") Gibb, born December 22, 1949-passed away January 12, 2003. They also had another, younger, brother Andy Gibb, born March 5, 1958-passed away March 10, 1988. The three oldest brothers were born on the Isle of Man (UK). Oldest brother Barry got seriously burned when he accidentally pulled boiling tea over himself at 18 months old. He was in coma for a while, nearly died and was in hospital for many months. Because of this, he did not learn to talk until after the twins were born. Later the family moved to Manchester and from there they emigrated to Australia in 1958, right after Andy was born. All 4 brothers are just natural musical talents. All of them dropped out of high school in their early teens and none of them could read or write music. All their compositions were created completely organically. Their musical career, which they had started as little kids, didn't lead to international success so they moved back to the UK in 1967. Then they had a string of big hits, until they temporarily broke up around 1970 for 15 months. Started back up, looking for a new sound which they first found in 1974 with the transitional album "Mr. Natural". After that "Main Course" was the first album that moved them into a new direction: more rhythm&blues, dance music like with great hits like Nights on Broadway and Jive Talkin' (and was also actually the first album on which their logo was introduced). From 1976 on they went all out with falsetto driven dance music which lead to their biggest commercial success as they provided classic songs for the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack (1977 Stayin' Alive, How Deep is Your Love, Night Fever amongst them). You should react to the 1979 live version of Stayin' Alive, too ruclips.net/video/7niXSh7vWRI/видео.html Other great songs to analyze: great album tracks from the 1979 Spirits Having Flown album, the title song: ruclips.net/video/WH_j90fCIk4/видео.html, the outrageously beautiful song Reaching Out ruclips.net/video/vfHUS5Mf00Q/видео.html. From their Still Waters album, Smoke and MIrrors: ruclips.net/video/MT9vRHSWNbk/видео.html. From the 1960's I've gotta get a message to you ruclips.net/video/CA4CInDnTk8/видео.html. And from the 1990's the simple song Blue Island live in an accoustic version: ruclips.net/video/162GlAEpfrY/видео.html. Andy was kind of Barry's mini me, about half a foot shorter and 12 years younger but they were the only lefties of the family. However, his voice was nowhere near as broad in range or as strong as Barry's. As producer Alby Galuten said in the book "Tales of the brothers Gibb "Andy's falsetto was nowhere near Barry's." Andy had a lower, huskier, sound to his voice and his range was not as big as Barry's. I personally always thought his voice was much better suited to songs of his first album, Flowing Rivers. Andy died of myocarditis - which is an inflammation of the heart - on March 10, 1988, 5 days after his 30th birthday. His heart had been weakened by his drug addiction over the years which, by the way, was also the main reason for his split from Victoria Principal. He also had a congenital heart problem that was later also discovered in Barry and Barry's second son Ashley. Try listening to the song Dreamin' on ruclips.net/video/-KdBVKcSSSw/видео.html which is kind of a duet with Barry. And here are the 4 brothers live on stage in 1979 doing You Should Be Dancing ruclips.net/video/_6MR-E_Qzz0/видео.html And finally a few photos of Barry and Andy: i.postimg.cc/jS6n3Jkv/Barry-Andy.jpg and i.postimg.cc/TwnPh8M0/82c126fc42a35d3b737867af41338199.jpg and the 4 brothers with their mother i.postimg.cc/FRNMbwkD/b9b2561eadffee11347573c97063c2f8-zpsd89478eb.jpg As for Barry Gibb's speaking voice: ruclips.net/video/rVbHWLvTCCw/видео.html ruclips.net/user/shortsGrAF6yAEFz0
Please do “To Love Somebody”. At the request of Robert Stigwood, the band's manager, Barry and Robin Gibb wrote "To Love Somebody", a soulful ballad in the style of Sam & Dave or The Rascals, for Otis Redding. Redding came to see Barry at the Plaza in New York City one night. Robin claimed that "Otis Redding said he loved our material and would Barry write him a song". The Bee Gees recorded "To Love Somebody" at IBC Studios, London with "Gilbert Green" and "End of My Song" in April 1967 and released it as a single in mid-June. Redding died in a plane crash later that year, before having a chance to record the song.
I ❤❤❤🥲 The Bee Gees, i find this Nostalgic, it makes me think of times when i was small and Christmas trees were tall. To Love Somebody was my Favorite then and from the 70/80's it's To Much Heaven and When the Bell Tolls. But I Loved Them All ... [almost] 😄🥰
As an Australian I followed the BeeGees from the mid-60s get go. And yes, you're spot on, Amy! Early on they were influenced by the Beatles. However, they maintained a distinctive identity, and the music, no matter the style or period, was unfailingly tender and personal. This personal tenderness is, I think, the key ingredient within the music of the BeeGees. I'm a big fan!
TOO MUCH HEAVEN (official video) HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVR STAYING ALIVE NIGHT FEVER FANNY BE TENDER YOU SHOULD BE DANCING JIVE TALKING LOVE YOU INSIDE OUT TO LOVE SOMEBODY
If you can, listen to this by Lulu and Maurice Gibb, who used to be husband and wife way back in the 69-73, ending due to his alcoholism. They seem to finally emotionally reconnect, and it's really touching.
Keep going with the Bee Gees because their output is FAR more varied than these two songs. Plus, both of these are solos: First Robin, now Barry. Their most amazing work is their ensemble harmonies.
There was some competition in those days about whether Barry or Robin should be the primary lead singer. "I Started a Joke," a Robin solo, was the second single from the "Idea" album, Fall 1968. (The first single was "Gotta Get a Message to You", where Barry and Robin share lead.) "First of May," a Barry solo, is the only single from the "Odessa" concept album, Spring 1969. That album had a very eclectic mix of tracks. Some humor, some Cowboy stuff, three pure instrumental tracks (in its original 17-track release form), and a fuzzy satin velvet jacket. There are three notable Robin solo tracks in the album: the title song, "Lamplight," and "Black Diamond." When manager Robert Stigwood released the lone single, and decided that First of May would be designated the "A" side and Lamplight the "B" side, Robin left the group for a year and a half or so, and recorded on his own. Barry and Maurice still recorded as The Bee Gees, and had their sister Lesley do stage shows with them and sing Robin's parts. But eventually, the brothers all reconciled. Once they switched their primary style to Disco in the mid-late '70s, almost all their material has Barry leading with his falsetto voice.
I agree this is so much more than a love ballad. To me a nostalgic remembering of all those days of first love and youth, but now I see it could be about brotherly love. ❤ Please react to 2 songs I think you will LOVE: Robin taking the lead in "And the song will Shine" ( Melbourne Live '74 video) Its about a young boy idolizing an unattainable woman. 2]) Barry taking the lead in " "Morning of My Life" ( UK Rare Footage tv show video is the best & not shortened like other live performances) It is sheer poetry about childhood!❤
This analysis was great! Your perspective is always enlightning, and sometimes even surprising as with I started... Excellent job by Vlad, as always, behind scenes but here he was on stage, like some of the best directors do!
Maybe something from their disco period next? Stayin' Alive is just the right tempo and is used by paramedics to give CPR to someone who has had a heart attack - see British Heart Foundation video. Then again, many Bee Gees (Brothers Gibb) records are 'from the heart'.
Olá! Sou uma grande fã dos Bee Gees e amo assistir reações sobre esse grupo. Eles são incríveis e você não tem ideia de quantas músicas maravilhosas eles tem. Se você ouvir "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart", "Fanny Be Tender", "Run to Me", "Dearest". . Eu poderia sugerir uma lista quase interminável! Por favor, faça mais vídeos sobre os Bee Gees. Obrigada!😊🇧🇷
Bee Gees 50! Bee Gees 50! You can see she wants to do it. This song gives me that "gazing out at the snowy mountains and the starry sky from the window of my 18th century chateau in the Alps" vibe (as much of late '60s Bee Gees does). Interesting that they argued so much over whether "First of May" or "Lamplight" should have been the single from Odessa; I would have gone with "Melody Fair" or "Sound of Love" myself, but what are you gonna do?
"Sound of Love" is my favorite from Odessa and would have been my pick for a single, followed by maybe "Marley Purt Drive" although I'm not sure how either of those would have landed at the time. I also really love "Seven Seas Symphony", but I suppose that wouldn't have made a good single - lol.
I agree, you should react to Too Much Heaven. It's about 10 years later than the two that you've already listened to, and it shows a different side of them. And it is definitely a love song.
I'm surprised I didn't see any recommendations for "Morning of my Life" a song they sang from their earliest days right up to their last concert performances in the late 90's. Beautiful lyrics and great harmonies. In their later concerts they would sing it around one microphone accompanied only by Barry's guitar. They were fantastic and greatly missed.
The early, pre-disco Bee Gees were so good. "Holliday" from 1967 is one of their best. BTW, "First Of May" sort of sounds like Herman's Hermits' "East West" -- another sentimental ballad -- from '66.
The younger boy sings 'Joke' and the older one sings '1st of May'. The third member of BeeGee's filmed it. There is only 3 years between elder and younger brother. They are an older brother and twins.
In the video the taller brother is Barry singing this song. The younger boy is Robin who sang I started a Joke. The First of May was named because it was the date Barry got his first dog.
if you have a look at the songs they wrote for other artists then you will start to see how significant they have been in popular music. "Islands in the Stream" is an example.
The brothers were brilliant melodicists. They seldom get the credit they deserve for their songwriting, but they were tops. Being Disco Kings really hurt their reputation. It shouldn't have, as even their disco songs were the best of that genre. Next, try their hit "Lonely Days" to hear a completely different side to them -- rocking.
Barry was only three years older, but much taller then. The younger one Robin has a twin, but Maurice the other twin was always operating the video camera ,while Barry and Robin acted out . The Bee Gees are a very special group. .
"...I watch the apples falling, one by one". For me, this line has a dual meaning...a really heartbreaking meaning: Barry, the eldest Bee Gee, watching all his younger brothers, Andy, Maurice, and Robin, die, one by one, "the apples falling from a tree". yeah.
The Bee Gees have some intriguing lyrics. On the song "With The Sun In My Eyes" from 1968 they have the line "Who Is The Man That Walks In The Step Of My Shadow, Is It The Man Who Does What He Can, But Never Does It Right" On the song "Wind Of Change" from 1975 there is the line "Don't You Understand What I Am Saying, We Need A God(Guy) Down Here, A Man To Lead Us Children, Take Us From The Valley Of Fear". On the song "Love You Inside Out" from 1979 is the line "You Can Blow out My Candle, I Will Burn Again Tomorrow" And as some has stated "Too Much Heaven" from 1978 is just masterpiece, Lyrically, Musically and Vocally. Maybe the best Falsetto song ever made. And many more, those are just some that come to mind.
The Bee Gees career spanned 5 decades, each decade covering a different genre. They had hits in every decade, more than any artist. Words and I Started A Joke are a good start chronologically as these songs are from the pre 70s. Try Massachusetts, To Love Somebody, New York Mining Disaster, I Got To Get A Message To You as songs from that era. The 70s were different as they dived into more R & B/ disco with songs like Jive Talking, Nights On Broadway, Night Fever, You should Be Dancing. They didn’t forget to include great ballads like How Deep Is Your Love, Too Much Heaven. In the 80s they had to reinvent themselves again with You Win Again, One. The 90s, they focused on writing and producing hit songs like Guilty (Barbara Streisand), Heartbreaker (Dione Warwick), Immortality (Celine Dion). Plus many many more. They are incredibly talented musicians, songwriters having written songs by the hundreds for themselves and for other artistes.
Very interesting and insightful. This song was sort of very quickly forgotten. Later, it was not played on oldies stations. I always thought it was a boy/girl song. The idea of it being an older brother talking to a younger brother never dawned on me. Makes perfect sense, though
The video was Barry (older brother) and Robin (3 years younger) they are being filmed by Robin’s fraternal twin Maurice. You would enjoy To love somebody, Lonely Days and How can you mend a broken heart. They evolved and changed over and over. Have videos from 1960 (as kids) - 2001.
The Andy Gibb Memorial Foundation contributes to charities that Gibb supported, such as the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, and the Diabetes Research Institute. The song "Wish You Were Here", which was a track on the Bee Gees 1989 album One, was dedicated by his brothers to Andy.
By the way, in this video, Barry Gibb was a gangly tall 16, and Robin was 13. Maurice, the other 13-yr-old, was filming this. Maurice was the camera /tech nerd.
As kids they covered the Beatles in live performance. Holiday , off their 1st album, was very Beatle-ish as were other tracks off that same record. If you can't quite figure them out, I think the song I Gotta Get a Message to You is an entirely different story line and will really throw you off the trail.
I don't know that much of the early BeeGees, I got to know their music in the late 70s, their disco era. "Too much Heaven" is a good one. Barry, the guy that was singing in this song, became a significant writer of many songs for other artists, some of his best were for Barbara Streisand, who may well be one of the greatest voices in the past 50 years. "Woman In Love" is from the album Barry produced and wrote most of the music for Barbara's album "Guilty"
You could react to one Bee Gees song a week and it would take you years to get through all of their great songs. They had so many that are just incredible. Over 5 decades of songs. You should react to younger brother Andy Gibb, I Just Wanna Be Your Everything. Everlasting Love.
"Odessa", "Every Christian Lion-Hearted Man Will Show You", "New York Mining Disaster 1941" and "Saw a New Morning" are other good tunes from the Bee Gees. I'd love to see your analysis for these tunes.
The Bee Gees were able to last from the 1950's to 2000 and beyond (until twins Robin and Maurice passed), was that they kept reinventing themselves through the decades of different music. They not only wrote songs for themselves that were hits, but also for other artist Barbara Streisand, Lionel Ritchie, Celine Dion to name a few that became hits as well. The Gibb family moved from England to Australia in the 1950's, where they began their singing career in Australia on Australia's version of Bandstand. This video is of the Bee Gees performing on Australia's Bandstand in 1963 - ruclips.net/video/EbsUj3oK1wU/видео.html#ddg-play Bill Gates, a radio disc jockey in Brisbane gave them the name Bee Gees. To become successful, they moved back to England where they were signed by Robert Stigwood (RSO label), and the rest is music history.
Sadly, `First of May` caused much stress between the Gibb Brother. I think Robin preferred another track; `Lamplight` from the `Odessa` album to be the `A` side of a single, but Maurice and Barry favoured `First of May` which was the `A` (In the U.K certainly) and `Lamplight` was the `B` side. This would lead to their `split` for about a year 1969 to 1970.
I suggest to you to listen this next " 1989 words live" . I started a joke was sung by Robin and first of may was sung Barry, eldest brother and leader of the bee gees
find the video clip of them on an australian variety show from the early 60s singing "my old man's a dustman". it's on you tube. barry was 17 and robin and maurice were 14.
You obviously have to do "Staying Alive." The song and disco music haven't weathered well over the years, but the song was a sensation when it came out about 1977. It was used as the introduction to the immensely-popular movie, "Saturday Night Fever." The opening credits of that movie with "Staying Alive" in the background have to be one of the most, if not the most, recognizable opening of any movie in history. The infectious (and at the time unique) beat of "Staying Alive" is what you are supposed to hear in your head when you time your chest compressions doing CPR on somebody whose heart has stopped. The Beegees did 20 songs I like more than "Staying Alive" but the song is their most important from the standpoint of its cultural influence.
Sarah Brightman covered this song-I hadn't seen the video, but always thought of it as a childhood sweetheart and then she, later as they grew, found someone else.
This song was put in the Movie "melody Fair" in 60's, this movie was about a very young boy and girl falling in love with each others, I think you would like this movie too.
FACE TO FACE Barry Gibb, Maurice Gibb, George Bitzer (1983) undated 1984 stereo 4:18, lead vocal Olivia Newton-John, Barry Gibb Now Voyager, 1984 This duet is almost an Olivia Newton-John record with support from Barry. Olivia was an MCA artist, so the duet could be a promotional move, but Barry had worked well with her before and it may have been his own idea.
Too Much Heaven by the Bee Gees will blow your mind.
Definitely one of their best xx
Pre disco Bee Gees is so underrated. They even did a Beatles medley on tv.
Absolutely 💯
I love Barrys smooth, velvety voice and he sings always with real emotions from the bottom of his heart!

One of my top ten favorite songs ever is "Lonely Days" Just an incredible ballad and harmonics.

You will love them even more as you see their progess through decades. Is amazing how much they can adapt to a new era of music.
In my opinion "I started a joke", "First of May", etc...these early songs represent the golden era of the Bee Gees.
Just wait till you hear "Ive just got to get a message to you" That will pull on your strings for sure!!
simply love this song , the live performance between Mourice and Lulu another music icon "
Mourices X wife is especially touching
She nailed it on many levels.

You mean Janis Joplin completely ruined it. The best cover of To Love Somebody is by Eric Burdon.
@@kenchristie9214 - we'll have to agree to disagree here. 🙂

Melody is a nostalgic film, saw it was 11 years old and it has been my favourite for many years hence. I'm now 64.
More Bee Gees please, Too Much Heaven, How deep is your love. Both great songs you have done so far but the harmonies is were they excel
Their early musical careers officially started in Australia, at 12 years and 9 under the management of their father Hugh,
they were travelling to gigs / living together until they sailed back to their homeland, England signed a seriously big contract with the same management as the Beatles, then at 18 the twins, formed serious romantic relationships and married.
This song was composed by the Bee Gees for the motion picture "Melody" which was an adorable movie about two preteens who run away together.
Thanks for another Bee Gees song!!
Great music and reaction! Hope there is more BeeGees to come
The verse gets me that breaks my heart is, When I kissed your cheek and you were gone, what a beautiful line 🥲
If you don't know The Carpenters, is another one you should definetly hear their songs.
especially their cover of Klaatu's "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft"!!
I don't know this ladies age, but seems odd she would be unfamiliar with BGs and/or Carpenters.
TOO MUCH HEAVEN (official video)
HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVR
STAYING ALIVE
NIGHT FEVER
FANNY BE TENDER
YOU SHOULD BE DANCING
JIVE TALKING
LOVE YOU INSIDE OUT
TO LOVE SOMEBODY
Too Much Heaven will blow you away then
Fanny Be Tender With My Love will blow you away all over again.
Ive Got to Get a Message to You is among my favorite (and one of their Best) 60's hits.
Loved the song (I hadn't heard it before) and the reaction. Thanks Amy and Vlad. 🖤
If you can, listen to this by Lulu and Maurice Gibb, who used to be husband and wife way back in the 69-73, ending due to his alcoholism. They seem to finally emotionally reconnect, and it's really touching.
And there's a vid of Robin singing it, along with G4. The crowd goes nuts at his first solo line.
I guess all the brothers liked the song.
Keep going with the Bee Gees because their output is FAR more varied than these two songs. Plus, both of these are solos: First Robin, now Barry. Their most amazing work is their ensemble harmonies.
Massachusetts would be a good option, or the Mining disaster.
Massachusetts and Run to Me are my favorites. Never tire of hearing them.
There was some competition in those days about whether Barry or Robin should be the primary lead singer.
"I Started a Joke," a Robin solo, was the second single from the "Idea" album, Fall 1968. (The first single was "Gotta Get a Message to You", where Barry and Robin share lead.)
"First of May," a Barry solo, is the only single from the "Odessa" concept album, Spring 1969.
The tall boy is Barry who sings the first of may the smaller boy is Robin who sings i starded a joke Maurice, the twinbrother of Robin is filming.
The song was featured in a movie called "Melody".
I also really love "Seven Seas Symphony", but I suppose that wouldn't have made a good single - lol.
bee gees nights on broadway
I agree, you should react to Too Much Heaven. It's about 10 years later than the two that you've already listened to, and it shows a different side of them. And it is definitely a love song.
PLEASE! MOODY BLUES nights in white satin, the beautiful rock song
'Nights In White Satin'.
Wow
Love ❤️
I was a kid when my brother brought home the album Odessa. Loved it. I cried myself to sleep when they went disco.
As a classical musician you might enjoy "Seven Seas Symphony" from the Bee Gees Odessa album. Or perhaps even the title track from that album.
I always liked “Words”
Barry was only three years older, but much taller then.
The younger one Robin has a twin, but Maurice the other twin was always operating the video camera ,while Barry and Robin acted out .
The Bee Gees are a very special group.
.
"...I watch the apples falling, one by one". For me, this line has a dual meaning...a really heartbreaking meaning:
Barry, the eldest Bee Gee, watching all his younger brothers, Andy, Maurice, and Robin, die, one by one, "the apples falling from a tree".
yeah.
The Bee Gees have some intriguing lyrics.
On the song "With The Sun In My Eyes" from 1968 they have the line "Who Is The Man That Walks In The Step Of My Shadow, Is It The Man Who Does What He Can, But Never Does It Right"
On the song "Wind Of Change" from 1975 there is the line "Don't You Understand What I Am Saying, We Need A God(Guy) Down Here, A Man To Lead Us Children, Take Us From The Valley Of Fear".
On the song "Love You Inside Out" from 1979 is the line "You Can Blow out My Candle, I Will Burn Again Tomorrow"
And as some has stated "Too Much Heaven" from 1978 is just masterpiece, Lyrically, Musically and Vocally. Maybe the best Falsetto song ever made.
And many more, those are just some that come to mind.
It's just the tip of the iceberg , the bee gees have the most decorated song list ever, ever!
First of May was the signature song of the wonderful old British film, Melody. The film was an unexpected hit in Japan where it has cult status.
I'm amazed this song was never covered as lyrically a masterpiece.
Nina Simone covered a great song they wrote called, To Love Somebody.
Agreed. They do have a beatlevibe at times. There is also a vibrato (which bugs me to be honest). They have a massive body of work.
You could react to one Bee Gees song a week and it would take you years to get through all of their great songs. They had so many that are just incredible. Over 5 decades of songs.
You should react to younger brother Andy Gibb,
I Just Wanna Be Your Everything.
Everlasting Love.
"Too much haven" will by my recomendation
This video is of the Bee Gees performing on Australia's Bandstand in 1963 -
ruclips.net/video/EbsUj3oK1wU/видео.html#ddg-play
Bill Gates, a radio disc jockey in Brisbane gave them the name Bee Gees.
You must hear Massachusetts
Also the song Alone. It's a classic .
That is a deep cut. Never heard it before.
You're going down a rabbit hole for which there is no escape!😉😀
Sarah Brightman covered this song-I hadn't seen the video, but always thought of it as a childhood sweetheart and then she, later as they grew, found someone else.
I'd like to suggest you to check Cherry Red from Bee Gees....greeting from Indonesia
I love this song's writing. I am really looking forward to when you are introduced to Faith No More (and their version of this song). Come on Vlad!
The Wolfe Tones did a killer version also!
This song was put in the Movie "melody Fair" in 60's, this movie was about a very young boy and girl falling in love with each others, I think you would like this movie too.
FACE TO FACE
Barry Gibb, Maurice Gibb, George Bitzer (1983)
undated 1984
stereo 4:18, lead vocal Olivia Newton-John, Barry Gibb
Now Voyager, 1984
This duet is almost an Olivia Newton-John record with support from Barry. Olivia was an MCA artist, so the duet could be a promotional move, but Barry had worked well with her before and it may have been his own idea.
Please react and enjoy "How Deep Is Your Love" and perhaps how Jacob Collier plays with it 45 years later.
I think you might enjoy Ellan Vannin with Robin singing it is In An Audience with the Bee Gees
Sarah Brigjthmann has a great great version of this from a Christmas concert i Vienna,
Out of the four brothers only Barry is still alive.
Their Every Christian Lion Hearted Man Will Show You (1967) is quite amazing. Psychedelia meets The Beatles and Gregorian motifs.
