And if it had not been for Claire, Phil would have forced Luke to keep doing magic when he made clear he didn't want to anymore. Is that what you call a great father?

She means well. She's a horrible control freak and she thinks she knows what's best for everyone, but she really means well and puts her family first. She's just so obsessed with bringing out the best in them, she can't accept it when they dream of doing something flighty or when they pursue a goal has a high risk of failure. It's a constant point of friction in the marriage. Claire is grounded and levelheaded and Phil is a dreamer who just wants to pursue his passions. That's gonna cause conflicts in their marriage, no matter how hard they both try not to let it get to them. Long story short: Claire has issues, to be sure, but so does Phil and they seem to balance each other out quite nicely. It's been shown time and time again that when push comes to shove, Claire is a loving wife and mother who tries her best. I don't think anyone in this show is meant to be terrible. They're all flawed, but that's where the humor comes from.

Her ego is that big she called it her party when it was to celebrate Jay and Gloria’s anniversary like damn. She turned down Phil’s huge opportunity on her standards and belittles Hayley lying to her a lot when they’re very much alike as teens
I stopped watching this show because of how horrible the character arcs are. Claire is by far in the top 3 most toxic people I’ve ever seen exist, though just a character of a show, she makes me so mad I have to stop watching.
