  • Join Doug & his Ex-Step-Cousin-In-Law Aaron as they hit the high seas and go lobstering with one of the greatest lobstermen in Maine. In the summer of 2020, our families drove to the great state of Maine to spend a week in a dreamy village called Owl's Head. The home we rented was originally a boy's summer camp started over 50 years ago called "Camp Harcliff". While fishing one morning, Doug met a legendary lobsterman named Alan Marriner. Alan is an Owl's Head native and even attended Camp Harcliff as a boy. Lobstering has run in Alan's family for generations. Alan was taught by his father how to lobster. Alan then passed down his knowledge to his son Troy, who now has his own lobster boat.
Alan invited Doug and Aaron to join him and his Stern-man Eben Kenney for a day of lobstering on the open sea. What happens next is anyones guess. Join them on their amazing journey to "A Day in the Life of a Maine Lobsterman."
RIP Bill Atkinson - We will miss you sir.
After we made this video, Eben Kenney bought his own Joby tripod and started his own RUclips Channel. If you'd like to follow Eben and Alan on their journey, you can find him here:

My random observations: You two are a laugh riot; the crew is phenomenal and so down-east I could smell the salt water; your questions were my questions (your curiosity and willingness to ask is just spot on); video was great (keeping those pan shots under 50 mph ain't easy); sub-titles and graphics were essential but not everybody would have done that. Please do more stuff like this. Subscribed1

It’s okay to be technically serious with the job we had to do, but emotional serious had a price to pay if there were no venting mechanisms installed. One of them is the dark humor.

Didn't seem like they were that busy. The average boat here fishes between 200 to 300 traps a day. Some more than that. Several lobster boats also do Tuna after the spring season is over in early July late June. Some do deep sea fishing charter ls or tours taking out up to 20 some people at a time. Those boats will 45 feet long and about 18 feet wide powered by up to 1000hp engines. Always nice to see how others do thing in different parts of the world, very nice production quality in the videos.

My son runs his own business outfitting new boats, sometimes i pitch in and help out. Afraid fishings not for me, went out to help once land the traps on the last day of the season. It was in the Northumberland Straight which has a quick choppy role and boy did I get sick. Every 20 minutes for about five minutes. I had frosted flacks for breakfast at 4 am. I have never eaten them since and that was 20 years ago. Stay safe and take care.

Ran a search and rescue case off of Point Judith, Rhode Island where on an inshore lobster boat (lobster licenses are bought and given in reference to the zone where license owner is trapping) had a crewmember lose his footing and he went hip first into a bait knife which wasn't properly stowed for sea. Went in thinking it was an assault with a deadly weapon but nope just a boneheaded weather created mishap. Just think of the nasty infection that would come from that knife (ugh).

Because he’s local and keeps his boat in the bay. No docking fees. Plus, most people wouldn’t feel safe doing that. But his family goes WAY BACK in the area so he’s safe. People would rather do what he does but access to those spots is limited. He lives 10 houses away from the bay. Just easier💯
